Ugh. I know how you feel. I had one pattern for a fat quarter quilt that had the wrong measurements for 1/3 of the blocks, then when I figured out how to fix that and got to the block assembly it didn't say what side to stitch one of the blocks onto. When I went to assemble the quilt I found that for the pattern to work I had to pull apart half of the blocks and sew them to the other side of the block!

So now I've ripped the center part apart. 8.5 + 8.5 + 15.5 is just never going to add up to 30 inches. So I took the flying geese part off the center and trimmed them down to 8 inches and after putting them on the center block it measures 30 inches exactly. Of course once I have that part fixed I'll have to fix the next part since you're supposed to sew a 15 inch block to a 17 inch block. Right.

I am working on a pattern that I will never ever make again. It has these trapizoidal shapes to piece together and getting the angles right is so difficult. Here is a picture of the quilt. Instructions are useless.[ATTACH=CONFIG]405349[/ATTACH]

Always always always, work on your kit, immediately after the quilt show. Not 2-3 years later. It happened to me. I really got upset when I found holes in my material after I had it completely sewn. The holes in the batiks were quite small but holes for sure. Good idea to look over the material before you forget who the vendor was. Lesson learned the hard way.

Yes, I can certainly join this club. But it wasn't the instructions so much as the amount of material that was included. There was a list of fabrics (with coloured pictures) and amounts for each, which I never thought to check when I bought the kit. Next time, it will be the FIRST thing I do!!! I was shorted well over a meter of fabric and one piece was so small, that I could not even get half the amount of strips from it.

I emailed the company because they still had the kit advertized in their catalog. Never heard a word back from them and I have never bought another thing from them, even tho they were one of my favourite sites before.

I am really surprised at how many mistakes there are in this pattern. I wish I knew what book the shop owner used for the finishing setting so I could see if the mistakes were in the book or if they are the shop owner's mistakes. At least all of the individual block patterns were good. I have the center about 3/4ths done now and it's going to be a really, really pretty quilt.

I've encountered awful instructions in bag/purse patterns. Some of the ones I have bought are so poor, I can't figure out how to sew the parts together. I usually make up my own patterns for quilts, so if I make mistakes, it's my fault.

Because of mistakes in the pattern or my errors, I have learned to buy a little more of the fabric than required. I know that is not possible if you buy a kit but have bought fat quarters of the fabric if they still have it. Scissor Queen is your avatar a scissor quilt or a picture of all your scissors?

I took a 1 day class at my lqs awhile ago from a visiting teacher. We did not get the quilt done in that time. I will never buy another 1 of her patterns, even tho the LQS classes she teaches look so pretty. It was a complicated pattern but mistakes! And she said she'd answer all emails and never did. The cutting instructions said to cut 13" squares - from 1/3 yard of fabric. I DID finish that quilt tho!
