    Default Quilted Quilt

I am have gotten a quilt quilted with a white backing and now I'm thinking I should have used the left over fabric to make different sized circles to applicae on the backing. Do you think I would still be able to do that or would that kinda ruin the quilting motif on the back - I would have to hand sew the circles. What is your opinion? Thanks. L

If you don't mind covering up the quilting, go ahead and add your applique circles to the back.

I, personally, would leave the back plain.

If the circles aren't huge, I would think you could go ahead and appliqué them on and hand quilt them a little to match up with the original machine quilting lines. But I have never done it so hopefully you will get other more experienced opinions!

As Jeanne S stated, it would depend on the size of the circles. It is difficult to applique by hand anything that is already quilted.

Most times I leave the backs plain.

It can be done--very carefully. You can carefully stitch, just catching the backing fabric with an invisible ladder stitch. It will be time consuming, but you won't ruin the quilting on the front.

I would go ahead and add the Applique, then carefully resew the quilting through the appliqués in what ever manner you used for the first quilting.

I am sure you will be able to find room for even small circles to applique on the back. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions regarding the applique circles to back of quilt. I am going to leave as is as the quilt was beautifully quilted and think now it would spoil it. I am going to make a pillow case and applique the circles to it. Thanks again.
