MSQC has a tutorial with the rail fence with a black square in one corner- called Peace something. I made one with black squares and bold colors for a guy, but I think it would be wonderful in pinks too. If you are undecided about the accent, make your blocks, lay them out and then audition the accent squares. You should then be able to choose the perfect one. Good luck!

Can I just toss cream out there? Pinks and creams are my favorite – like strawberry and vanilla ice cream!

I agree with the gray people (aliens?!) that a soft dove gray would be really nice.
But I also like the idea of a pretty brown.....one that has a hint of warm to it (as in a hint of red). Look at paint chips for an idea of what I mean. Sounds nice no matter what you decide.

If it's pink, in my book all colors look pretty with it. What is Mom's second favorite color? Turquois, yellow, green, your imagination is the only limit here.

Mom loves red so that is one to consider. May look Valentine-like but that's ok too. You all have me thinking and auditioning colors. ;-)

I think a good deep purple looks nice with pinks.

I have seen one done with the little black squares and the contrast was gorgeous. I think Contrast is essential to what you are doing, so I wowuldn't gp with the white or light pink....lime green or grey might work...or even the bright red!!

I am starting to make a pink and gray baby quilt. That is what the parents want. I was kind of set back at first. But now I am enthused since I have collected some fabrics. I have several shades of pink and several grays. I've included a couple of whites as I have a pink polka dot and a gray polka dot. Too bad I have to clean up my workspace from my last project before I can begin. Another thought: not long ago I saw a jelly roll type quilt that used diagonals to join the long strips to three or four inch ending patches. It really looked streamlined rather than blunted.

Pink and brown go well together.
