I bought some heavy cordoroy for $2.99 a yard and it is wide enough that I don't have to peice the it to use for backing. Would it be alright to use for backing? If so, would you still use batting? I was thinking about using it for backing for string blocks. You know, they are peiced on muslin so I thought perhaps with all of that it would be heavy enough that I would not need to use batting. I am thinking about using it for a quilt I am making for the soldiers overseas. Thanks for your help.

I would think it would be too heavy.....especially for shipping weight.

I made a quilt entirely of corduroy once and it was so cute! My daughter still has it. It was pretty corduroy fabric with little flowers on it.

This fabric is plain dark green. I think it would be fine I was just looking to think if anyone else thought it would be nice.

I believe it is too heavy to be comfortable in the hot climate the troops live in. Yes, you can use it but think of it's ultimate use.

I think the corduroy would be a durable, warm backing and need not have batting. Because of the weight you might consider using a whole cloth top, maybe woven or fleece camo. and tying it. Practicality trumping beauty.

Corduroy could back tied lap quilts or throws. The nap would help prevent slipping, as well as being cozy. Whatever you choose to do will be a blessing to someone far from home.

It does get cold at night, I beleive year around in Afg, and certian times of the year in Iraq, when my son was in Iraq he had us sending hand warmers. I think it would be snuggly after being washed and dried.

I wouldnt use batting, I think it will be heavy enough.

I made an all corduroy quilt recently. It is nice and warm and snuggly but very heavy. It was about 75" square.
