    I had some black fabric with the same problem. I never did figure out how to tell front from back. I followed the advice here and used the same side throughout and no one is the wiser.

    I'm doing a quilt right now with ivory Kona Cotton and I can't tell the right or wrong side, especially after it's been washed, dried, and starched/ironed. I'm not even trying to tell anymore, just pick up the next piece in the stack of cut pieces and sew it.
