Default Yoga Mat

Has anyone ever made a pieced and quilted yoga mat? I'm thinking of making one, or at least a cover for a store bought one. If so, do you have any tips? Thanks.

Don't they usually need to be somewhat non-skid?

yes yoga mats are usually non skid. i made a foam mat for regular exercises once with a beach towel for top and bottom. huge exercising cat! finally gave that one away recently. now i just pull out two foam mats and use those. (don't do yoga).

I wouldn't cover my yoga mat with a pieced top, the seams would probably bug me, just like having a bunched up t-shirt to lay on

I’m a yoga instructor and fall prevention exercise physiologists. Unless I’m not understanding what you are doing I would strongly advise you not to make a cover for the yoga mat. This would be a huge fall risk. Those sticky mats are sticky for a reason! I would not allow any of my students to do standing poses on that mat.

what is really nice to have is a carrier for the yoga mat. That would be a great thing to make.

A fabric quilted yoga mat would be a huge fall risk, don't put a cover on a store bought one either. Make a nice cover for a rolled up mat, put a strap on it and it would be great to take to the gym.

Here are a lot of patterns for some yoga mat totes.
