Another Newbie Question~ Fleece/Knits
#1
A few years ago, before I knew anything about quilting, I took my husband's favorite fleece blanket that had a hole in it, cut it into 6" squares and alternated it with 6" squares cut from our daughter's old baby clothes, some of them being stretch knit. Now, looking at it, I'd like to preserve it but not sure how long it will last as a keepsake. The rows are sewn together but not all the rows have been added to each other. Any ideas on how to save this without ripping them all apart?

You can use some fusible interfacing on the back of the knit squares to help stabilize them for quilting. Carefully iron it on then re-sew over the seams. Sew the rows together, find a backing, and make a quilt with no batting. I doubt it will be getting a lot of use if you want it as a keepsake.

Thanks! After re-examining the quilt I may have to rip the seams anyways. The fleece has been stored for a while and it's really starting to wear in spots so I might just cut my losses and set aside the baby clothes to mix with a fun, baby-themed cotton. It's a bummer but I definitely appreciate the tip on stabilizing the knits! I'll probably start on that quilt after my current one is finished, lol.
