Reba, of do tell about your trip to Missouri Star and the 2.5 quilt. Just can't seem to get enough 2.5's.

Here is what I have been laboring over this past week. I finished the quilt, then looked at it from a distance, calculated how big it would be when I added the borders and ripped it all apart and reconstructed using the economy blocks differently. Yes, indeed I do make quilts that have no, not one 2.5. New result and joy is back in my sewing room. Now layer and quilt ASAP. The wee little owner of this quilt is on his/her way in the next week. I found this awesome idea for 2.5 inch squares. This is a free pattern from Moda, and originally is for 5 inch charm packs....BUT.....I looked at it and thought how awesome this would be made with 2.5's. Yes tiny 2.5 hst's but doable I think. My brain immediately went to the idea of making individual color blocks or all scrappy. This would be a beautiful scrappy quilt I think. Although I don't usually do the color pages, this is one that I totally would. I need to get my printer to print so I can print this pattern and give it a shot. If anyone else decides to try it in the 2.5's please let me know.

Hello all -- Thank you for the explanation WMUTeach and yes, I do already chain piece and "web" squares together. I thought that's what was meant but I think there is still a further way of sewing strips together then cutting them so that smaller squares remain. Another issue that could be throwing my 9-patches off is ironing to one side. Ironing to one side works just fine with larger squares but with the smaller ones, I can get an extra millimeter or two by ironing open as Lori Holt suggests. I'm just not a big fan of ironing open but I have done it a few times when it seems critical. I thought if I could increase precision in cutting and stitching that would be enough, but I guess the ironing technique leaves something to be desired too.

Janice that's not me with the Jack's chain quilt. I'm not that good! Interesting that we gravitate toward different colors, both you and Heather said you use muted colors. I like the brights! To the point where I find I don't have enough muted background fabric to set the brights off.

I store mine in boxes that I got from IKEA years ago. They are sectioned, like boxes you would store Christmas ornaments in. They no longer sell the exact boxes I have, but they have lots of storage boxes that would be suitable.

Another box I like is the clear plastic box made for holding scrapbooking paper. These are available at JoAnn's, Michael's and Hobby Lobby or most any craft store. You could have one for each color or type of squares!
