So I'm going to ask this in both groups

I have a procedure question

I am not a prewasher and the rules are to use washed fabrics and I have no problem with that am just not sure the best way to go about this so for all you other non prewashers how do you proceed? Do you choose complementary fabrics and wash the whole piece then choose a pattern? Choose a pattern and fabrics cut what you think you'll need and wash? What works best for you?

And I'm with the crowd I set the clover aside and working Jade first I' torn though I want to do it all.

I always wash my fabric as soon as I get it, then iron it so I dont have to try to remember IF I prewashed it or not. I know some people do prewash, some dont but just to be safe I always do. Got mine yesterday but havent had time to play with any of them

Default Prewashing - subject came up on the JADE thread...

I planned to ask you this later but how do you all feel about the prewashing rule? I kept it from previous Booms and never thought to change it until someone questioned it earlier in sign-ups. Frankly, I don't prewash fabric EXCEPT for these booms.

What do you do as a matter of routine? And why? i'm curious to know if you think this is a rule that should be kept, dropped or left to each person's own discretion?

And if you are too busy playing with your fabrics to answer now, don't give it a thought. I'll ask again at a later time when things calm down for you.

Happy Stitching!

Booms started me pre washing all my fabrics and now I am really glad I do. I feel better not worrying about shrinkage and bleeding.

I don't pre wash my fabric for anything but the booms or if I have a rich color that looks like it will bleed. I use the color catchers and have never had a problem. Terri

Most of the fabric I use in the boom are from my scrap box. Would one pre-wash them by hand? By they way they are given to me.

I prewash everything as it comes in the door. First stop is always the laundry room for me. That's just the way I've always done it. In the past, I have had some fabrics bleed. I LOVE Shout Color Catchers. I do think colors are more colorfast now than they may have been in the past. I always wash any finished item I make before gifting it, no exceptions. All that being said, I'll go along with whatever the majority wants to do. I'm not hard to get along with. Personally, I would still prewash reds and very dark colors for my own use though.
