If it is a pattern that looks real close to me for enough fabric I draw it out on graph paper, one box per inch, takes less then 5 minutes to tell

I'm sitting this boom out 😓, but am watching from a distance. I remember having newbie nerves. This quilt is from the first two swaps I participated in. The blocks are beautiful and all different skill levels. The moral of this post is don't worry, have fun with it.

Yes when I did the block that didn't work out right it was because I kept putting it together wrong totally operator error and just had to do some reverse sewing. I think there are certain patterns we like to work with because we know 99% of the time they will work for us. Personally I love making flying geese but HST's scare me Love to make dresdens but the center circle is not my friend

Terri I am the opposite I can regularly manage a pretty successful HST but my flying geese always fly with a list hahahaha. My dresden plate circles are pretty good, but I am a huge believer in wonder under.

When I make hsts I use squares and sew twice on the diagonal and cut them apart. And I always make them a hair bigger than called for and trim. When using triangles, I tend to pull on the bias. With geese, I've just started using a square method, no bias, and I end up multiples. Those are also slightly larger so I can trim. The result is MUCH better for me than using triangles. My sewing is just not precise enough so trimming here and there really improves the results.
