I finally chose fabric for my first BOOM. I've decided on 4 main prints. They don't have a lot of color variation (and also in part because I have a pretty extensive Halloween stash), I will include some 9 inch pieces to use if you're so inspired.
I'm excited...I've been searching for 12.5 inch block patterns.

M-Q, if you have “color requests”, you can include them in your ziplock baggies. For example, you may want to ask for “only green and orange”, or maybe “please don’t use black” or perhaps “solids only please”. These can be requested but they are requests only and are not guaranteed. The vast majority of Boomers will try their best to comply based on their stash or their ability to purchase a requested color of it’s not on hand. The choice of what block to make is the maker’s so you cannot request all drunkard’s paths or appliqué or pp to the exclusion of other block techniques.
Also, now might be a good time to mention that historically we have each kept the remnants from the F8s we receive. Occasionally a swapper might mention that she’s short on fabric and will ask for the scraps to be returned but that seldom happens.
What else, Boomers? What have I forgotten to share with our newbie? Oh, acronyms! WOW, white on white, f8 Fat 8th (18x10 for the purposes of this swap), pp paper piecing, FMQ free motion quilting, LA long arm. There are surely more but my brain is fried from this long post. lol. Boomers, help me…

Wow, you've all been busy! I'm glad I found the new thread!
Janice, I'm glad you're Juki handled the mishap like a champ! Sign of a good workhorse, when they keep going after a disaster!
M-Q, like Janice said, quilterscache is a great website and the blocks always turn out perfect from there!
SusieQOH, I get a horrible case of the slows every morning. It's like I've been hit by a truck every night. I think my adrenaline glands are low or something. If it weren't for the kiddos needing me every morning, I would definitely sleep all day!
I suspect my wisdom tooth extraction last week developed a dry socket, since I'm still in a lot of pain and... I think I can see a bone in the cavity! I called the dentist and left a voicemail, but haven't heard back and they are closed tomorrow. I might see if I can get another dentist office to see it.
But, on a happier note, I have my Boom 32 quilt on the long arm today! I doing a pantograph for the first time. I couldn't (didn't want to!) afford the "quilt-from-the-back" kit that APQS offered for my model, so I designed my own for a fraction of the cost. It works incredibly well! I'm a happy camper!

Beautiful quilt, NZ! The quilting really adds to the beauty.
Janice, great you and hubby got your machine problems fixed. I know that feeling, when the machine breaks!
I was sick as a dog yesterday... I think I have a intestinal obstruction. I had 3 C-section births in 4 years, so I'm sure there is scarring and adhesions on the inside. They seem to be causing more problems now. Bummer.
Your fabric is adorable, SusieQ. It will be a fun one to use.
Hope everyone is staying warm!

My favorite source of 12" squares is Ellen Huff from Fabric 406. I signed up for her newsletter, she is not a pushy sales person trying to sell her patterns. Each week I get her blog post with detailed "how to" to make the pattern with lots of photos for you to follow. https://fabric406.com/blogs/fabric40...block-patterns
The link above is for a collection of star patterns, I have not browsed all 30 for size, but there is a link on her page for many additional blocks by size.
My other source is the simple blocks from Pat Sloan. If you go back to some of her sew-a-longs, you will find most are 12" blocks and none are too difficult, particularly if you're in a hurry. I have saved many to my computer and will only print if I need the details of construction. Her pal Kendal from Australia is a good step by step instructor of the Pat Sloan blocks. He is also doing a "how to" series from one of Barbara Backman's books. (You don't need the book. He gives that much detail. ) He also will post directions for blocks once a week.
