Ok....I need some feedback. I messed up BIG TIME! I was doing a block for someone and wanted to make a 4 to 9 patch block. The person's fabric was a batik so I used 3 of the batik blocks I got from the Layer Cake swap and her batik and made a 4 patch. Then as I was getting ready to to the cuts, it dawned on me that adding the extra cuts and stitches will make it smaller so I should have made the 4 patch bigger than 12 1/2"...ugh!! So....what now?? Do I just send the 4 patch of the 4 batiks or cut it and add a border?? HELP!!!

Hmmmm....of course being a newbie I'm lost but I will look up a picture of the D9P and see if I can figure out what you mean ;)
What if you made it like a D9P block? You could add a sashing on the inside of each of the squares, and a corner stone between the sashing. Do you know what I mean?

But add sashing on before sewing the pieces back together.

LOL...that's the exact one I was just looking at.
OK....so...you are saying to take the 4 blocks apart, then add sashing to 2 sides of each square with a little square at the corner of each square....is that right??

Qbee-
When I make a 4DP (disappearing 4 patch for the a 12" I start with 4 7 1/2" squares and sew them in the traditional 4 patch block. Then I measure from the center lines and cut 2" on both sides that gives you 9 pieces to move around. The block I did for you is a disappearing 4 patch.
A disappearing 9 patch (d9p) is when you make a traditional 9 patch then cut in in half top to bottom and side to side then arrange it into a 4 patch to finish it. When you cut it in half you create the squares with the saching on 2 sides in 1 step instead of piecing it togther.
You just have to remember to add 1/2" for every seam that will be sewn, before and after doing the second cutting. For a 12" D9P you might want to start out with 9 4 3/4" square-that's adding 1/4" to each 4 1/2" square, this should give you a 1/4" play once you finish cutting the 9 patch and resewing it into a new design.
