thats actually alot less than it used to be but many relatives have passed away.

our holidays used to be around 30 people.

when DH & i first married a typically non-holiday family dinner consisted of about 11 people.

our dining room is 18 feet by 36 feet to accommodate everyone.

sadly, my in laws have passed away and now i'm the only cook. i have 3 ovens but its still really hard for me to pull everything together.

I think we had 33 people altogether for the first holiday dinner I prepared.

That was when I was 19 or 20. It actually went fairly well - I was a nervous wreck - but I still am when it's a "planned/guests invited" event

And only one old gas range to cook on - I really don't remember how I did manage to pull it off - borrowed tables and chairs - very crowded - and these people could EAT!

And that was when I thought I had to do everything from "scratch"

My DH is second oldest of 9. When I married into this family 2 of the older ones were married with kids. My MIL cooked for 15 to 25 every sunday. Her brothers and family would come and all the kids came home to the farm every Sunday. I wanted her big iron skillet but noone knows where it went. I learned to make gravy in that skillet. It was 20" wide and very heavy. When mom and dad canned they canned everything into gallon jars. It was so hard for her to learn to cook for just the two of them! Now she is blind and can't cook anymore.

We are having 20 too, and I only have one oven. I'm putting the turkey in at 2, we will eat around 7. I have to get everything else done ahead of time! It's a royal pain.

I do love it when everyone is here, and my favorite part is when they all leave and we lay on the couch and just chill out. DH is really good about doing the dishes since I do so much of the cooking and planning.

Happy Turkey Day to you all!

WOW!! I am Glad that all of you have such fond memories of the holidays! and I send everyone well wishes on preparing these huge meals, with one or three ovens :D

My very first time cooking for everyone was the first christmas after my DD#1 was born. We had some of my family and his family over. well his brother says"If I would have known all these people were going to be here I wouldn't have come" By "these people" he meant my family  so needless to say he really ruined it for me.

Well we don't celebrate Thanksgiving with them anymore. and that happened back in 1997?

I'm from a faimly with 8 brothers and 4 sisters, ( yes 13 of us) sadly none of us talk to each other and my mom & dad both have passed on. ( as well as 3 brothers)
But my oldest daughter, her boyfriend and my darling four grandkids ( I have 10 grandkids) will be here along with my son & his girlfriend, and I guess anyone else who want to stop by is welcome. I'm cooking a 27LB turkey, I cook mine overnight.
I wish everyone a very safe & happy Holiday.
