Agreed. I would also like to get a jump start before I start my Christmas sewing.
What a great Idea.

Did you turn under the edges of your leaves or did you stitch the raw edges?

Also, if you want a daintier stitch that the blanket, I use a blind hem stitch. You sew the same as the blanket stitch, but it takes a much smaller bite and you can barely see it. you do not notice it hardly at all. If I had a picture of one of my applique blocks, I would post.

Yours looks very nice, so I'll give it a try. Satin stitchinging takes too long anyway.

Beautifully textural!
There's a lot to nail down on these blocks!
Did you notice the leaf in the upper left ...

Does anyone recommend putting stabilizer UNDER the background fabric? I read that some sewers do this to prevent puckering...just wondering.

I do if I am doing some heavy stitching or if my block does pucker. When you do your stitching, use a lighter weight thread, like a bobbin thread, for your bobbin. It helps to deter from the puckering as well. it still looks good. When the block is sewn into a quilt, the quilting will help take some of that pucker look out so it is not as noticable. On the dresdan plate, you can tack it down with an acid free glue stick on the points and valleys to help hold it down while stitching if the pins are not assisting.
