January 2016 mug rug swap" be my valentine
#41
I use mine the same way I'd use a doily. Something to set a small vase of flowers on or such like. I have also used them to decorate a bare spot on the wall. I have only ever given one away and it was a second MR that was gifted to me in a single swap.
A close friend lost her DH last month and my DD (15 yo) wanted to put together a gift for her, so in addition to the lovely things my sweet girl made, I gave her my extra MR that suited our dear friend perfectly. DD had given one of her cups and saucers (she collects them) and some specialty tea and homemade cookies.....so the MR was perfect. Our friend adored the thought and the gifts.
I keep trying to figure out a way to sew my mug rugs together and make a throw......anyone have a thought or two?

That's an interesting idea! Maybe you could treat them like QAYG blocks and connect them either with sashing or (as they are already bound) by hand as you would EPP? However, I'm not sure if it will work well as they probably tend to have various sizes. Also, all the ones I made so far (1 for a swap, 2 for gifts and 1 for myself) all have rounded edges which would make it quite hard to connect them with others... But maybe I'm the only one who is not making rectangular mug rugs?

KLTQuilts is right -- although most people think of Valentines in red or pink, black is also often used. And, perhaps your partner will acquiesce to your preference in color. One has but to ask.
So far we have 28 signups! Not bad, huh? And there's still a few hours to go. But the signups aren't closed until partners are assigned (hint, hint).
And if we get any international swappers, any takers? So far, we do not ... but you never know what'll happen between now & when I post partners. Please PM me if you can send international.
