Great quilt sewbizgirl! Glad to meet you Gannyrosie! WMUteach, lovely block. NZ, I love how you already knew about this pattern! Loveofquilts, I am making some mug rugs so I can practice various machine quilting styles. I have pieced forever but now it is time to actually quilt or I will have flimsy's forever. Starting small on my domestic seems like a wise move for the perfectionist in me.

Oh! I made that quilt for my husband a couple of years ago. Didn't use a pattern tho. It's easy enough to make just from the picture.

I love yours, Sewbizgirl! That red really gives it an extra pop.

sewbizgirl 01-10-2022 01:56 PM

Only 8 days left to sign up for this swap! Hope some lurkers who are sitting on the fence will decide to join us. It's a very fun swap and easy to do. I'm cutting new 2.5"s to swap today. It's always more fun with more people in the swap.

WMUTeach 01-10-2022 04:59 PM

Thanks for the advertisement Sewbizgirl. :) What a lovely quilt. I am trying to figure out how to squeeze it into my plan for the year. Tee-Hee-Hee.

I am sorry to hear about all the swappers who can't be with us this year.
Thanks for the happy welcomes. You got me all excited. I am going to start cutting now!

sewbizgirl 01-11-2022 10:44 AM

Welcome Crispy! I'm cutting now too.

Wouldn't it be lovely if we could get up to 20 swappers... or more? Tell your friends!

NZquilter 01-11-2022 11:23 AM

I'm cutting today too! I started last week but had to set it aside. My bulk birthday cards I ordered are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting our first birthday names for the year!

Thanks for letting me get back in the game, its been several years that I've participated. We were blessed with our 1 and only grand daughter 4 years ago, and this granny started sewing for her, though now she's more into pants and shirts, so back to my quiltiing.
This actually will be my 3rd time participating in this swap. Last one may have been back in 2017 or 18. I love doing scrappy quilts more than anything. It challenges my mind verses a repetitive block, which is predetermined. The hexie quilt is from many previous swaps and is still being hand quilted (LOL) , hands get tired and I get tired of the repetiveness. The postage stamp I just finished the other day.
Hoping to start a new Hexie with swap blocks again.
though I'm not a big converser on here , I do read all the comments and will comment if I have something to say.

Such beautiful quilts being shared! Wow!!

ibex94 01-12-2022 11:21 AM

aborning.... are you peeking at your bday candies or just letting the stack grow?

Here are my first two flimsies for 2022. They will get layered the end of the month at my quilt group work day and quilted in February. I made a HUGE number of 16 patches for the Debbie Brown Color Blocks but did not continue with the challenge. I found the blocks and decided to make the first one with the cheddar sashing. I have enough 16 patch blocks to make at least two more quilt tops, but will hold off and move to some other projects for this month.

The third quilt is a re-post from last November. I used birthday swap squares from the 2021 swap as a "memory" of what I received in last year's swap. Yup, that needs to be layered and quilted too I was going to add a final frame but now, I think not. I will likely use a scrappy binding to wrap it up.

I am tracking my number of 2.5's used this year. To date: 1500 (Not counting last year's swap quilt because it was made in 2021.)

Lovely quilts, Gannyrosie. Looking forward photos of your next quilt adventure.

NZquilter 01-12-2022 12:44 PM

Gannyrosie, both quilts are stunning! But your hexie quilt needs a blue ribbon-- WOW!!!

WMUTeach, you have been busy and your tops are absolutely beautiful! I see some of my candies; always fun to play I Spy! I love the idea of making one block with each member's candies. I might do something like that this year.

Gannyrosie 01-12-2022 04:48 PM

NZquilter, thank you. Love seeing all your scrsppy's, giving me ideas..

sewbiz, a unique pink and green scrappy, love it.
Ibox94, is your quilt in the vintage chain family. I still have lots of candies to cut from scraps and it's as design I've not done.

I did send her a message and asked for a list, but she may be and rightly so, be posting her list in the "old thread". I will zip over there to see. This time of year is a little tricky with two swap threads going on at the same time.

NZ, I really liked making one block with the candies from my birthday envelopes. I will certainly do it again. I wish I had done it all along. I would have quite a pile of quilts, as would you.

sewbizgirl 01-12-2022 05:17 PM

JENNR8R asked me to let you all know that she is in the hospital with bilateral covid pneumonia. Please pray she recovers soon! She also said she will probably be a month late starting this swap, but will catch up when she gets home.

Lord, heal Jennifer soon!

NZquilter 01-12-2022 06:23 PM

That is terrible news about Jennr8r! I'll certainly add her to my prayers.

ibex94 01-12-2022 08:20 PM

Sending prayers to Jennr8r. Thank you for letting us know, Sewbizgirl.

Gannyrosie, I wish I could claim that quilt as mine! I'm just gathering quilt ideas. I hope to produce lots of larger candy based quilts like those that most everyone else in this group has done. I'm just a dreamer at this point. WMUteach is knocking them out so quickly this month. That is one crazy busy quilting queen!

cuppy 01-13-2022 03:28 AM

I will pass on the swap for 2022. I have to create something wonderful for me…with all my birthday candies this year.

WMUTeach 01-13-2022 04:42 AM

Cuppy, so sorry you won't be with us for 2022. Lurk and find new ideas for your collection of 2.5's. There are many ideas popping up already.

I am so impressed with the ideas that are popping up on our thread already and we haven't sent out a single envelope yet! This flurry of ideas are a snapshot of the many, many ways we can use our little birthday candies in sooooo many different beautiful ways. Thank you , thank you, thank you!

Sewbizgirl, Thank you for passing on the word about JENNR8R. It looks like she will not be behind because we do not have a February birthday swapper.....yet. :) I will join with others in putting her on my prayer list. There is power in prayer.

I'm still on the fence for joining this year - mostly because I have so many candies on hand already (I cut up a lot of my scraps). Though I do love using them. I'll probably continue to make some of the Debbie Brown challenge projects. They start out simple and after I few I got sort of bored with them - but some of the last ones look pretty neat.

Here is one I used a lot of the Christmas candies on. this pattern used 4" blocks, so it was real easy to adapt to using the candies.

LogCabin82 01-13-2022 09:56 AM

This is a fun pattern for 2.5” that I did. It’s a pixelated heart from the MSQC YouTube, very easy to do and uses a lot of candies!

Love the use of colors. I think I would make numerous ones usind the different colors and make a quilt. Thanks for sharing and make a

NZquilter 01-13-2022 11:17 AM

So pretty and delicate, LogCabin!

I love your Christmas Tree quilt, Macybaby! You certainly have an amazing touch with these candies.

I downloaded Debbie Brown's challenge quilt patterns. I think I'm going to be sewing 2.5" charm quilts for the rest of my life with all these ideas!

sewbizgirl 01-13-2022 01:13 PM

We will miss you, cuppy.

Love that Christmas tree quilt, Macybaby. Fingers crossed that you will swap with us!

The pixelated heart is beautiful too. That would look great in any color scheme, or scrappy.

Loveofquilts 01-13-2022 04:43 PM

Sorry you can't join us this year cuppy. We will miss you.

Jenner8r you will be in my prayers. Get well soon!

I started cutting yesterday and am almost half way done! I also got my birthday cards in today. Things are moving along quite nicely. :)

WMUTeach 01-14-2022 04:56 AM

LogCabin your gentle pixelated heart is lovely. Wouldn't that make a sweet baby quilt or he center for a little girls "big bed" quilt with additional borders. It would be fun in brilliants or batik too. Guess it is just a terrific pattern. Thanks for sharing.

NZquilter 01-14-2022 06:52 AM

Four more days to sign up! I hope we get a few more swappers! I have 20 sets ready for the year.

So many cute ideas! Love the Christmas Tree and the heart!

I thought I would share a few of my older quilts with candies. I also have a cute Valentine's Day wall hanging and I used a number of candies to give an interesting dimension to a a quilt made with dragon panels. Obviously that could be interchanged with any panels and any candy colors!

So anyone on the fence - please join us!! There are so many uses for these beautiful fabric squares!

WMUTeach 01-15-2022 05:45 AM

Irish, I like your blue quilt and the idea of using the small color blocks not for the whole piece but as filler that surround the fussy cut picture pieces. I know that I get stuck in making the whole quilt from the little 2.5s and it doesn't have to be that way. Thanks for the good reminder.

Nearly finished with cutting my squares for this year. Yeah! Taking my time and folding and returning the remaining fabric carefully back into its bins. My little bit of organization for 2022.

JENNR8R 01-15-2022 07:14 PM

Well, I got home from a week stay in the hospital. I got Covid pneumonia at our church service on Christmas Eve. I'm weak as a sick kitten, but it feels so good to be home again. This is day 20 of the plague, and I'll be quarantining for another ten days just so I don't spread this awful disease even more. Hopefully, after that amount of time I will no longer be contagious, off of the oxygen, and will feel strong enough to do something... anything!

It will be a while before I'll be up to preparing my candies, but I'm really looking forward to participating this year.

Don't worry about cutting the Birthday Swap Candies for a while. We do not have a birthday until March. Take care of yourself and the swap will move ahead and you can catch up as you need to. Plenty of time to recover, make color choices, then cut, and send. Will keep the prayers going for you. ;)
