5" Color Theme Charm Swap - ORANGE

[/B]September 5” Charm Swap – Color Theme (ORANGE). Sign up ends Tuesday, September 19th. Swaps need to be in my hands by September 28th, with final distribution by October 2nd.

***The Color Theme for this Summer Swap is ORANGE***

1. Color theme of ORANGE means a Minimum of 80% of the print has to be some shade of ORANGE. Yes, they can have other colors within that 5” square as well, but the predominant color must be a minimum of 80% ORANGE.

2. You may swap up to 10 bags with 15 different 5" square charms in each bag. Please fussy cut if your fabric print requires it. Send the kind you hope to receive. Only send 100% quilting cotton squares!

Do Not Send: thin fabrics, homespuns, dotted swiss, denim, flannel, polyester or polyester blends, eyelet, wool, linen, fleece, knit, broadcloth, seersucker, Etc. Only send 100% quilting cotton, please.

3. Take your time cutting and be sure you have correctly cut 5” squares. No one wants wonky squares

CUTTING/PACKAGING METHOD:
We will be sending 15 DIFFERENT fabrics in each bag we swap. All your bags can have the same mixture in them, or different, but you cannot repeat fabrics in any one bag. We will be swapping bag for bag, so there must be 15 different fabrics in each bag. Please put your board name & location on every bag you are swapping. For instance, "Redstilettos, West Bend, WI".

4. Put all your swap bags in one big ziplock then affix a tag on it that includes your name and mailing address, as well as your board name. That will keep them together in your package and if it happens to get torn open in shipment - your address will be there for the P.O. to return to you. Tyvek envelopes or padded flat rate envelopes are the best shipping method. You can order the padded flat rate envelops from the post office online, in packages of 10, and they are free.

5. Postage: It costs $7.20 to ship the padded flat rate envelop. Please include a USPS Money Order for $7.20 in your big ziplock to pay to return ship to you. Very well hidden cash or stamps are okay as well. I cannot ship back to you until I receive payment. No personal or company checks, please. Also, Please put your board name on the outside of your package. This will help me stay organized knowing who I may be receiving from or waiting for. Please be sure to send enough postage.

6. PM (Private Message) me to sign up and indicate how many bags you intend to swap and include your real name and address to ship back to you. I will respond to you with my mailing address for you to mail all of your swaps to me for distribution to all swappers. Positive feedback for earlybirds will be awarded.

7. If I receive ALL swaps early, distribution back to swappers be early, too!
Let’s aim to be early! If I do not receive early, distribution will be by October 2nd.

I’m looking forward to having you

Would everyone be so kind as to chime in on something for me? Several of you have mentioned swapping orange for halloween...I know several of us don't celebrate it. So, as you are prepping your charms, could you let us know how much of what you are sending is holiday related? I don't want anyone to change what they are sending, just might choose to sit this one out if I would be receiving a lot of themed fabrics. Make sense? Thanks in advance!

moonrise 08-30-2017 06:22 AM

I'm in! I'll PM this evening when I get up. Already in bed. :)

As far as Halloween or Thanksgiving fabrics, I won't be sending any of those. I'd prefer not to receive any, as I rarely use any holiday fabrics, but it's okay if I do. :)

AnnieQuilts 08-30-2017 08:36 AM

I'll be sitting this one out since I don't use Halloween fabrics. See you next time! Translation: I'll be lurking until next time :D

redstilettos 08-30-2017 08:41 AM

None of my fabrics will be Halloween based. Just....orange. Lots and lots of orange.

I'm wondering if I should say to Exclude Halloween fabric if more of you ladies would be interested then?
Just a thought. I'm open :)

jlt37869 08-30-2017 02:18 PM

I'm out for this month. Have fun everyone!

hav4boys 08-30-2017 02:19 PM

No Halloween fabric from me.

Jane Quilter 08-30-2017 02:57 PM

I assume the theme is orange not Halloween. if we do red, you do not mean christmas. If we do green, I assume you do not mean landscape grasslands etc. I don't think I have any Halloween but I do have pumpkins and fall foliage, and I know I have no christmas fabrics. That said, I'll be searching my stash for 80% orange. If I don't have enough, I'll have an excuse to go to the Local Fabric Store and buy a little more than I need for the swap so i can hoard a little orange for myself. I'll look in modern, blenders, 30's, traditional, all across the spectrum. Count me in, even though this is a hard color. But we should all carry some in our stash for a balance.......Jane

hav4boys 08-30-2017 03:45 PM

Jane I do agree. I have to buy all the fabric for this one as I do not have any orange in my stash. Although I am not going to buy Halloween fabric, I am blessed to get any orange for 5x5 stash.

I only have 1 that is a flock of turkeys in fall colors with orange background, hope that is alright.
No Halloween for or from me! A previous themed swap sent me candy corn charms, don't know where to use them!
I gathered peachy orange to burnt orange & a lot of in betweens to go with creams & browns for a Farmer's Wife quilt so that's what I'm using for the orange swap...

I hope we get some with a white background, it really lends balance.
hugs,
dj

I'm up now. Yawn! :D PM sent to join, max # of sets. I bought my orange fabrics a few weeks ago, since I had very little in my stash. I'm not sure why, because orange quilts can be very striking!

Jane Quilter 08-30-2017 05:09 PM

dj, send me the white with orange flowers and green vines. Looks 80% to me (because I am Blind) lol. no, really, I love that print....it is so delicate....and with the pink/coral , it makes your block a real beauty........Jane

moonrise 08-30-2017 10:34 PM

Squares are cut and ready to mail! :) Is it a good time to go ahead and send them, or should I wait until after Labor Day?

Redstilettos, cover your eyes! Don't read the next paragraph! tee hee :D :p

(whispering) It's not a requirement, of course, but if possible, let's include a "little extra something" in our mailers for our swap hostess, for all her time and effort involved in hosting. A fat quarter, some extra charms, some jelly roll strips, small handmade items, etc. all make fun hostess gifts! :)

Okay, Red. You can uncover your eyes now. LOL!

redstilettos 08-31-2017 04:45 AM

LOL moonrise, you just totally cracked me up.

But on that note, NO gifts are required. I really just do this to make friends and to make our quilting lives fun and exciting. Because sometimes petting fabric isn't enough for me. LOL

I think a lot of people are on board to not include Halloween fabric. I, personally, don't have any, but wouldn't care if I did, but do understand people that don't. This is really up to you whether or not you want to participate, but Jane did bring up a good point of none of the swaps indicated holiday fabric. So...your choice. I hope you join, but totally understand if you don't want to.

I have to go to the store for more orange if I want to participate. What am I talking about. Of course I want to! :D Again...petting fabric. SO much better than an antidepressant pill! LOL

Have a great day ladies!

Faintly Artistic 08-31-2017 06:07 AM

I'm in! Thanks for letting me know what y'all would be sending...helped me decide. This past year I have grown to love orange and have bought a bunch. Just didn't want to trade pretties for holiday stuff I wouldn't use. :o
Dj, I like the scroll fabric in your 3rd block.

redstilettos 08-31-2017 08:51 AM

I love that scroll, too. Yummy!

hav4boys 08-31-2017 09:17 AM

I bought all my material yesterday. I never realized how many beautiful shades of orange there are. Cut them this weekend and get them out.

Crispy_Frog 08-31-2017 09:34 AM

OK, I'm in as long as the holiday is at a minimum or nil. I was just betting that the next color was going to be Red. I was so sure of it! I stocked up! Oh well, now I have to go shopping again.

Is this orange too white or should I include it?

barbarakibler23 08-31-2017 07:23 PM

sorry ladies...not enough orange here.....I will be sitting this one out.

Have fun!

Faintly Artistic 08-31-2017 08:37 PM

Dj, that reads orange to me!

Faintly Artistic 09-01-2017 08:02 AM

Okay, cutting my orange fabrics and a design for them popped into my head! Of course, I have to wait for my package! It's a good thing, cuz I need to finish the one I'm working on first:o

redstilettos 09-01-2017 08:47 AM

DJ: I would say that's orange :)

Jane Quilter 09-01-2017 12:07 PM

I am shocked, shocked that I found 20 orange fat quarters in my scrawny stash that are not holiday oriented. I hope you ladies like batiks. I counted because I pass a LQS on my way to my Doctor appointment today. Dang, no reason to stop. But wait, do I need a reason?

Crispy_Frog 09-01-2017 12:15 PM

OK....the Blue songs moved along great in the last swap, except since nothing rhymes with "orange." I got another idea. Think of the title of a book or the name of a movie that can be improved with the word "Orange."

Fifty Shades of Orange.

redstilettos 09-01-2017 12:42 PM

Jane....go back to the doctor. Something is very wrong with you. I mean...you didn't stop?!? LOL

JuanitaBean 09-01-2017 03:15 PM

I'm in for orange 10 bags. NO Halloween fabric from me

Faintly Artistic 09-01-2017 05:00 PM

Jane, I love batiks!
"Oranges, oranges, who cares, cuz nothing rhymes with oranges..." What is that from?!?

djmat 09-01-2017 06:16 PM

movie/play: A Clockwork Orange
please disregard the first block in yellow & brown, it was paired with the orange ones.
hugs,
dj

Jane Quilter 09-01-2017 06:44 PM

Orange 'cha glad Chrispy Frog started this side thread?

JuanitaBean 09-02-2017 09:27 AM

Got my orang candies all cut will have them ready to sent off Mon.

Jane Quilter 09-02-2017 09:55 AM

djmat 09-02-2017 12:21 PM

  • Orange Blossom Special - Charlie Daniels Band or Johnny Cash

Jane Quilter 09-02-2017 02:50 PM

I've cut my 10 bags.....no Halloween fabrics in the bunch.

Tumdarra 09-02-2017 04:14 PM

I'm in for 10 bags....no Halloween fabric either

redstilettos 09-03-2017 04:44 AM

Morning ladies. I believe we are at ten total right now. Just one more to join and no duplicates! :)

Jane Quilter 09-03-2017 12:28 PM

Mine are bagged and addressed for mailing- with stamps included. There are no Halloween fabrics, mostly batiks. They are so pretty, I was glad to have at least one of each for myself.

And, Red, I wanted to tell you how helpful this swap has been for me. First, you picked the perfect number (10 baggies), because from a fat quarter I get 12 - 5" squares. (That is 1 each for 10 friends and 2 for me). Then I get a 3" strip left over that I can cut into some 2.5" squares and put them in my 2.5" charm box for swaps or usage. Plus put some of the 3"strip in storage for my strip/string collection. This still works if there is shrinkage after washing the fat qtr. After pulling all my orange fat qtrs out to pick and sort for these swaps, I am now putting all the leftover oranges back together in my fat qtr storage area.....so slowly, my stash is slowly getting organized. Thanks, again...Jane

Faintly Artistic 09-03-2017 01:59 PM

Ditto what Jane said. Plus, I am getting to fill in the color holes in my stash.

djmat 09-03-2017 03:13 PM

Jane, sounds like you & I organize the same way! Cut for 10 5"squares, split the leftover strip for 1.5" & 2.5" squares for future swaps & save a string for a string quilt project!
Shopped today for 5 new orange FQs to balance out what I send in case it is in another swappers stash or if they don't like it. The new ones are marvelous, I couldn't resist them, hope you agree!
hugs,
dj

hav4boys 09-03-2017 07:02 PM

Mine are going out on Tuesday. All cut and no Halloween and only one fall theme. Pretty impressed as orange is not a color I would often use but cannot wait to make a quilt out of the 5 inch orange charms.
