i had a del sol that i just adored. gave it to my daughter and she sold it to move to texas! i loved that little car, so cute and clever. now i have my first dream car, my mustang gt rag top. she is sweet! her full name is bubella, but i call her boo because she doesn't hang around for her whole name. took me 32 yrs to get her and i have no intention of letting her go. she needs a little tlc, but her innards are still working like a charm. of course, she's low mileage since she can not ice skate or sled. she prefers a dry, fast track. her tires are minimum $100 each and i buy them where i get a discounted rate. man, she's high maintenance, and according to dh, so am i. who woulda thought? hahahahaha, hee hee!

jaba 03-03-2013 06:40 PM

Oh nancia, you make me laugh. Think I'm a little high maintenance also, but it's kind of like the old saying been there done that. If he doesn't do it I will. I'm looking forward to receiving my table topper/ runner, actually almost forgot. I haven't heard from my partner in awhile but hopefully we can mail soon . Saw what I made today in my sewing room guess that's why I like to send and get it out of here....I know I'm done. See told you guys I would have forgot about it and missed the mail date.

Anastasia 03-03-2013 07:22 PM

hehe yes on the falling into and having hip trouble getting back out. It was the first change I noticed. Though I needed a ladder to get into the suburban. I will miss the going up and over the snow with the 4x4 of the suburban but my old jetta only got stuck once and I was able to get it unstuck myself with enough time. We're almost past that issue anyways. I cringe every time I hit a bump and hear that scraping noise. I think I read in the manual it has like 5.5" ground clearance in the front.. geez. I don't think my kitten could even fit under that. hahah.

Oh yea i need to get on the harassment PMs.. was doing homework

DustysMomma 03-03-2013 07:44 PM

Hey! No harassment needed here missy! Well, I didn't email yet... :D I'll email when I decide if I'm going to go for additional quilting or not, lol.

I used to have a red Grand Am GT that was a hot little car at the time. It was a curb dragger too. I loved that car, but the ex wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so he traded it in & called it my birthday present. The only car I've ever had that I can honestly say I hated was the Galant we got when we were cutting back bills until things settled down when my ex incorporated his business. I got caught in a hail storm in it one day and I was scared to death, but when I got home, parked under the carport, I thought whew, maybe now we'll get rid of it, lol. About 3-4 months later, we traded it in for another Cherokee. We never did fix the hail damage before we traded it.

Imagine it is getting to be time for the nagging notices to tardy? folks. Is quiet here tonight but folks have to take a break sometime. :-) Enjoyed reading about all your vehicles. I drive 2007 Freestar. Not because I am a soccer mom but because it is easy to get in and out of for older folks. Looking at prices of new and used vehicles, I think I will be driving this for a long time. Used cars in the mid-twenty something price range. Holy cow! I will never own a new car again but not sure I want to. I like the older ones better. Should see some swap folks posting soon...I hope. :-)

DustysMomma 03-04-2013 04:47 AM

Sandy, I was just reading an article about this Friday. (http://www.usatoday.com/story/driveo...rable/1949385/) Apparently, the only US city out of the 25 major cities they looked at with the median income to afford current new car prices is Washington DC. I just went back to work in the car business, for a dealership that carries both a luxury line and a non-luxury line from the same manufacturer. As of Friday, we were 15 new vehicle sales away from the manufacturer's March 15th goal that is an indicator of a "good" year. That's makable, but they offered an extra $1000 rebate to employees and their immediate families through today as an added push to help with it. I see way more sales on the luxury side than I do on the non-luxury side. It seems that people who aren't buying from the luxury line are mostly buying used. People are also willing to drive a further distance to buy their cars, even used ones. We see lots of sales from 100+ miles away as a result of our internet sales program. I'll have another new car. I'd just like to get out from under my student loans first if I can.

It's funny, my ex thought nothing of trading cars every year or two. My boyfriend of 7 years bought his vehicle 6 months after we started dating & isn't close to thinking about a new one yet and thinks I shouldn't be either since there's nothing wrong with mine.

SandyinZ4 03-04-2013 08:20 AM

Your facts were interesting on cars. I guess I have never been on board with getting a new car often. I drove a 58 Rambler to work in the mid 60's. Did buy a brand new car in 1965 and then got a brand new pickup in 1978. Since then it has always been used cars for us..Used van in 2001; 2003 and last one in 2011. But I don't mind. No car payment means I can afford to buy a little more quilting fabric. LOL!

dabbler312 03-04-2013 02:01 PM

I drive an old (98) Suzuki Sidekick and prior to that I drove a Suzuki Samari - the Samari was a rag top so I could bomb around with the top off in the summer - a very fun ride; also have a Ford Explorer that sits in the garage as it's our going out of town ride in comfort vehicle; Mr. Beasley does not get to ride in it. Beasley rides in my sidekick and Brian's Old Ida car (88 olds cutlass). We both would like to get new vehicles but with the dog and all that hair it's not going to happen any time soon and I'm not about to leave my dog at home when it's time to run errands - he loves going for rides. So for now we keep what we have - Sidekick gas mileage isn't bad for a 4x4; I'll drive it into the ground then get a new ride; my back window sticker reads (quitcherbitchen) - some laugh and some want to know if it's German - LOL

Hopefully I will be able to mail my topper out this week - still need to put binding on.

Vanogay 03-05-2013 05:17 AM

Working on the binding of my topper. Should have it finished in the next night or so (unless I get wrapped up in a good book - which happens often!). Hang in there Mary and I'll get finished.

MaryMazz 03-05-2013 10:19 AM

I just enjoyed a quilt get away weekend on Cape Cod with a nice group of women. My second table topper is almost complete, now to decide which one to use? My dilemma is that I am crazy busy all the rest of this week with commitments at work and with my children so, I guess I won't be finished until at least the weekend.

Tam...Moo 03-05-2013 04:47 PM

My table runner will be finished tonight and ready to mail tomorrow.

but wait there is more Sandy in AZ sent me a suprise in the mail. I shared with her a few little scraps I had and then out of no where comes this lovely treat. This is perfect for spring with all the soft colors. I absolutely love it thought the candies never made it to MY MOUTH. Candy here disappears like magic. abra cadabra! GONE. sheesh. its amazing he has any teeth at all. I will have the prettiest dressed tables in all of Calaveras County!!! maybe even farther.

Wow! So many pretty table runners/toppers.

dabbler312 03-06-2013 09:23 AM

Awesome table runners/toppers.

Isn't if fun seeing all the creativity.

Have a great day.

nancia 03-06-2013 10:06 AM

i am gathering the cloth from the dryer, ready to iron, and then cut! soooo exciting to be doing a new proiject!

Elisabrat 03-06-2013 12:21 PM

ok I am pooped out. I just read I am gathering from the dryer and my mind said.. "I am gathering the lint from the dryer to go iron." I thought what the is Nancia doing then i realized it was worse. It was ME thinking it not her doing it. that is worse. brain cramp to the tenth degree. owweeee.

GREAT runners!!! I would love to find/buy the patterns to make the star shaped one from Jaba and the hexagon shaped one from Sandy...hint hint!!!!
Kif
PS Here is a little teaser of squares I am making for my partner's fruit theme table runner, ignore the stabilizer showing thru on the back, as soon as I get the applique done, it will go...:

Also, she has a light blue rim around her dining plates, so I am trying to decide which fabric (possible a blue) to somehow incorporate into my pattern design (I am making my own...like extra sashing, depending on how I do the setting of the squares). I posted some fabric options over in the pics area if anyone has a chance and wants to give me some opinions please.
Thanks all!
Kif

Vanogay 03-06-2013 04:09 PM

What wonderful, pretty and funny runners. Any of us would be happy to be the owners of them - or just one. Mine is finished and ready to mail when you say so, fearless leader. Now to start on my patriotic, which will be late, I think as I am still waiting on the fabric that was to come for it. Not a problem, just waiting.

jaba 03-06-2013 05:05 PM

My partner is Liz22 and I mailed today. Sure hope she likes it.

nancia 03-06-2013 06:00 PM

kif-- wonderful fruit blocks! i am resisting puns ( like your efforts have been fruitful. OOPS, did i say that outloud? trying to stop me is fruitless!) just not very well obviously! tonight i start the table runner to the stars! now that i know the one to me is finished, it is isn't it?, i can start on d'sm's. i shall sew like the wind!! after i iron and cut.
take a nap, brat. i will sit by your side while you rest, and iron my lint. there are artists who use lint to create pictures. i, sadly, am not one of them. i would like to find decorating schemes using pet hair. of course, i do have fur trimmed baseboards that match my pets exactly. tee hee hee. come to think of it, i have several pairs of pants that co-ordinate also! MOVE OVER, MARTHA STEWART! THERE'S A NEW SHERRIFF IN TOWN!!

jaba 03-06-2013 06:21 PM

Oh nancia I bet you could give Martha a run for her money. Just have 1 favor, please don't send me something with kitty hair all over it, I'm the very allergic one. Have to keep everything in the garage until hubby comes home to shake it all out and pick at it, then wash machine before I can even think about looking at it. If I don't the giant sneezing attack comes and the worst case of hives you could imagine. Not good.

nancia 03-06-2013 06:28 PM

i try not to, jaba. i sticky roll everything before it leaves my house. that isn't a guarantee but it is an awareness. i suggest anything that comes from me, despite my best effort to make them fur-less, should go directly to your garage. i do not want to cause you discomfort! i hope you won't have to throw it away! suggest your dh might get a quicker result using a sticky roller or a damp cloth to get most of the hairs off without their getting into the air and settling on something else. i have a very mild allergy to cats so i live with a stuffy nose most of the time. not bad enough to even consider getting rid of my sleek boys. thanks for letting me know, jaba. i will be extra vigilant with anything going your way.

jaba 03-06-2013 06:36 PM

Oh no I would never throw it away, don't worry about that. Miss Brat sticky rolls everything she sends to me and it's fine. Sorry to say I've had a couple of "experiences" with the Secret Pal swaps that I was miserable for about 4 days. I try to be aware if they have kitties, so I can open very carefully and slowly. Never never never throw!!!! You make way to awesome of "stuff", I want it. In advance thank you for the sticky rolling and being aware, lots don't want to mess with it. I say I have allergies but sometimes it gets overlooked and that's okay, hostesses have enough stuff to fret about they don't need that too. I figure it's at my own risk, I certainly keep signing up for things:D

Elisabrat 03-06-2013 09:00 PM

Nancia I figure with so much hair rolling around the baseboards no one will notice if you shave your legs or not you can just say oh those darn cats! and I thought those were chaps you were wearing the furry wild wooly ones I now realize if I had my glasses on I would haven seen you just velcroed your cats to your pant legs.

Vanogay can you please respond to Marybeth's PM she is worried she has sent you two packages of fabric now that she has something wrong so check your PM's por favor!

Ok last but not least I had a nap, 20 minutes well worth it. wish it was longer but the upside is tomorrow is a grand day for napping. I am going to work on binding in clinic and then come home and nap with my new bound quilt! pics forth coming. I have been super at not signing up for anything extra right now. I have watch guards keeping me from putting my name to another project. And I am making grand progress on big things so maybe a little tiny restraint for me is a good thing. til next month. :) and Jaba if I worked at your speed I would sign up for each thing and go back and sign up for one more. just to keep partially busy. Ladies she is like lightening in the sewing room. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM.

nancia 03-06-2013 09:08 PM

i have some weird allergies, a couple are life threatening, but nothing i'm deathly allergic to would show up in a swap. ok, someone might include candy or something with tree nuts in it and that would be a problem. but i know enough to not eat cookies or candy until one of my food tasters tries it first. that's why i married and had kids, lolol. anyway, i take responsibility for my allergies, just as you do, jaba. but that doesn't mean i can't use a little help now and then. i try to be respectful. that's one reason i usually don't include candy, etc in swap packs. usually just fabric or something i've made, like a pincushion. it's not going to be much fun if we start killing each other off. :D i once jokingly told my dr i was going to the mall to get a mrs fields' chocolate chip pecan cookie and end it all. ( he said that wasn't funny.) sometimes the truth isn't. anyway, it's good to know if your swap friends have allergies so you can at the least limit their exposure to the allergens. isn't that what friends try to do?

nancia 03-06-2013 09:16 PM

just for the record, miss brat, i have about 6 hairs on each leg. the others all migrated to my face. about that time my tush started melting into my thighs and my face is truly just melting. i have an extra chin if anyone needs one. i used to say i didn't want to be like those crabby old women who are always frowning. how was i to know that's what happens during the hot flashes. your face starts melting, and your boobs, and your stomach, and i know i mentioned my derrierre. honey, i am walking proof that gravity is alive and well! it's not just annoying. it's the LAW!

Elisabrat 03-07-2013 05:57 AM

Walnuts big time allergy here. One time we went to dinner at my neighbors house. It was our first time over there and she made this amazing beautiful dinner. They had this killer backyard landscaped gorgeous she put out these grand hanging lanterns, floral arrangements in several places and it was like martha stewarts best homes thing. So we sit to eat and she begins to tell us how they have a Walnut orchard. Oh how lovely. The salad had walnut oil on it, the meat walnuts mixed into it, the appetiser had cheese walnut roll thing, and dessert ..walnuts. The only dish without walnuts was an black olive garlic dip I had brought. Yum what a lovely dinner that was. I bet she never used walnuts in all her dishes again for guests without asking. I was embarassed to say something not wanting to hurt her feelings but I wasnt going to die for one meal either. Here I also have testers and I use pecans in everything walnuts are called for. works.

I did use a walnut shell for an ornament however. made a tiny mouse head out of felt had him sleeping under a blanket with a curled up tail (pipecleaner) sticking out on one end and a little pipe cleaner hand hanging over the side. it was pretty dared cute. I dont think my hands and eyes are so good to work on things that tiny anymore but I think if they were those would sell super fast at craft faires in the holiday times. Eat your heart out martha. I am just as creative as HER TEAM is. wonder if that woman actually created anything that someone didnt design for her?

last saw Barbara Walters on tv the other day. She is in her 80's. Ok I think I have more wrinkles than she does and I am 51. sheesh! Nancia I think i more closely resemble that cartoon lady maude? the one on the cards where her chest is about belly level and she has grand arm WINGS.. that is me. flappy old turkey skin there. I am fairly slim up on top but boy wings haunt me I think they could be lethal weapons if needed!

jaba 03-07-2013 08:32 AM

Thanks for such a great start on the day ladies. I didn't need the allergies to turn into gravity  Everything around here is in a downward slide. Just thinking if I could have an escalator installed in my house I could hang the extra on it and maybe it would just pull it on up for me. What a novel thought....I'm scaring myself.

nancia 03-07-2013 07:57 PM

i just start at my toes and pull the skin up and up, like panty hose. and then when i get it all to the top of my head i put a thick rubber band around it and then a lovely bow. i've been talking out of my belly button for years, and i hear with my boobs. i look a little like a bloodhound. need to get my nipples pierced so it'll look like earrings. ah, the things i do for fashion!!! see, getting old is too fun!!

Elisabrat 03-08-2013 01:19 AM

OMG you girls keep me laughing. my daughter at the age of 4 which put me at 33 sat on the counter in the bathroom watching mommy put on her make up. she says will I have fur on my face when I grow up too? outta the mouth of babes. I have blonde hair and I guess the 'fur' was highlighted by the morning sun and well I have shaved my face since then. lol. secrets we keep from our dh. hey baby can i borrow your shaving cream? uh no. God help me coming up with excuses when I nick my chin trying to get that goat hairout. ok what is it with one or two really long hairs? does everyone get those or is it just nanny goat me? right on the tip of my chin. cant see it til I turn sideways in the light then that blonde crud just BLINGS right out. and your right the older you get less leg hair to worry about and more facial trouble. I havent had arm hair in years. sometimes growing older has a few benefits :) not too many mind you but some. like not caring about saying hey gotta go shave my face brb. lol.

Vanogay mail away! Anastasia I hope your scraping along there in the new ride. I had a grand am. loved loved loved that car. talk about low to the ground. wonder could I get out of that now? I ride in a big ford truck. I have this foot stool I use to get in, dh drilled a hole in the top I have curl sheen ribbon pulled through it so when I am in I just reel it in with me. lol pretty goofy but I cant just stand there and stare at the truck otherwise. its not on high lifters. I am 5'3. everything is high. like hello there up there? help can you just shove from behind and maybe i can do it? oh heck no.

nancia 03-08-2013 02:17 AM

i'm beginning to pray for all-over baldness. truly, the only "problem" hair is on my face. i think that chin dagger is a hallmark of having reached maturity. when i was younger it was a big, red, glowing pimple that shouted to the world "Hey, look at me! I have my period!" then as the periods showed up with less and less frequency, a LONG, COARSE and very DARK bayonet grew on the point of my chinny chin chin. blame it on the 3 little pigs! they drew attention to it.-- thank goodness wigs are so realistic now, who'll know? then again, the female pattern baldness has hit and my hair (formerly on top of my head) has now turned whiter and less obvious and my hairline gets drawn in every morning with crayola markers. fortunately, my eyebrows resemble 3 sleeping fuzzy caterpilars ( it's going to be a very cold, long winter). at least my nose hasn't grown too large for my face yet, perhaps because with 3 chins my face is soooo much bigger than ever ( except that 2 weeks i had a face resembling a red basketball inflamed with poison ivy that swelled and immobilized all my features. yay me! how could i know my immunity had worn off?) my gmother once looked me over, as opposed to overlooking me, and declared i wasn't beautiful. or even pretty, but i did have a clean look. figured if i got my face dirty i was doomed to a life of ugly. the payback is i look a great deal like her as i get old-er. still feels like i'm the one suffering. i learned all my backstabbing and tact from her. i do have pretty toes. they make a lovely pattern of straight and crooked. i remember trying to cut dgm's rhino tusk toenails and can muster only profound gratefulness that the toe fungus i have makes the nails soft enough to peel. my ankles and feet now are very patriotic-- white fungal nails, red athlete's foot, and blue varicose veins. i'm a yankee doodle dandy! i have developed a strange finger arthritis. my thumbs are curling in and the tallest, longest, most readily noticed center finger has developed a stiffness that makes it resistant to joining the other fingers in a fist. yes, double eagles! is it any wonder i prefer staying home and quilting? on the positive side i laugh alot and loudly so we can all enjoy the joke, and i do love jokes. thank you, ditter! those maxine cartoons really explain aging accurately and still give me a giggle! thank goodness.

Vanogay 03-08-2013 04:42 AM

I on the other hand am tall and stately. Nicely honed and well proportioned. Good perky boobs and a small rounded tush. Beautiful straight teeth and a smile to warm the cockles of your heart. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's lying in front of ya'll? Now pardon me whilst I go throw up.:p

DustysMomma 03-08-2013 04:47 AM

Yikes, I can't wait for all this glorious reallocating of the hair, lol. I have the longest hair on my arms. Luckily I'm the only one who notices it. I use an epilator on my legs, because I'm too cheap to go pay someone to wax them. Yes, it's a little painful, but it's worth it. I used to have those caterpillar eyebrows too, but at 16 or 17 some good friends held me down (with permission) and did away with them. I plucked faithfully until they stopped growing a good number of years ago. I was glad to see them go. My mom's going to be 67 next month, and as far as I know hasn't started with the facial hair yet, and Gramma never did either. I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come, or better yet not come, for me!

Vanogay 03-08-2013 05:01 AM

That's not at all fair DustysMom - everyone should have a generous supply of facial hair - moustache, chin, ears, wherever. You're right, not as much arm hair anymore, but always have a profusion of leg hair when it's time to go to the podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon - never fails there.

Elisabrat 03-08-2013 06:07 AM

LMAO you guys... Vanogay I could tell from here you were tall stately and unaging as ever. How does she do it? I think its oil of olay! or is it vasoline on the mirror AGAIN? I know I was young and pretty once. I had the boys chasing me like I was the next best thing. Now glad there is no chasing (who the heck has energy for that) and it is so not the point of life. I think pretty comes from the inside out. lots of people who are outside pretty and mean as a crocodile. trust them like ...oh never. My father did the same thing Nancia in his own "nice" way. My oldest sister was striking! my next was a classic beauty and me I was cute. I grew up wishing i was a classic beauty but not was the case. Why on earth do people do that to their children or people they love? why not say your all beautiful? labels suck.

I think the truth is most of us if we look back at us say at 16 or 20 or even 30 think wow I wasn't so bad looking. so I say celebrate it. I am kinda majorly aged since last year but I know hey I had my day. Even at forty I still wore a corsette shirt and had a chest to rival the best and small waste and well looked pretty darned good. I am going to hit my dh computer. I had him put all my pics on a disk for the children to have. me growing up. from baby to now. I was the type who threw away my pics. all in all maybe 40 pictures of me. I always hate how I looked. Oh by was I dumb. lol beats the cartoon maude I am now by oh 10 miles. Will post and share the difference for you all. drink something strong when you look ok?

Elisabrat 03-08-2013 06:15 PM

ok here is a random thought which is so out there for me right, random thoughts? really??

what do you sing in the shower? I know you do. I do when no one is listening (ok who would be listening to me in the shower??? NOBODY). what do you think I sing? what is your song you sing most often?

nancia 03-08-2013 06:26 PM

My Girl. it is the official mother/daughter song for dd and me! it comes on the radio and we call the other to share the moment. i also sing oldies, and the mother's milk of music, folk songs!. puff the magic dragon comes to mind. most of the time it's whatever i just heard on the radio or tv.
