Thanks... Ms. Seasaw does beautiful work. Can't believe she worked out that pp pattern just from a photo! It was the hardest and most complicated pp I have ever done. Wasn't even sure I could do it....

And it was Kass who sent me the template patterns for the ribbon star block. She gave it to a lot of us. So beautiful.

My daughter and I raced to the hospital so she wasn't alone and we sat with her when the doctors told her how she would be able to hold baby when he passed etc. my nephew, her Mom and Kelsey's mom arrived several hours later. To make along story short baby was born alive and he is still alive. Have been here about 5 hours now, haven't seen baby yet, just waiting on updates

The last of seven guests/family left an hour ago. Sigh of relief. It's been an exhausting two weeks.

I did a lot of sewing. My son and I made the backpack. My niece (10) and I made a quilt with squares everyone had drawn on. My Omaha boy (8) made two little pillows one for him and one for his sister. He was quite good. The Omaha kids liked the Ispy quilt I made for them.

We still have a queen size bed in one of the rooms if any of you ladies get tired of the snow..... Downside: you have to share a bathroom with my 20 year old son. Janice does this count as a bribe so I get the fabric I want?

Day of the Dead squares for MJPEncinitas

I’m hoping the overall effect of all the squares are colorful. They will be going next to black ‘skull’ squares so your squares shouldn’t be mostly black. The middle will be a larger appliqué of three skeleton musicians, banjo, fiddle and harmonica. Your square will not be set on point. They will be used on a wall hanging so if you wanted to use techniques you wouldn’t ordinarily use on a bed quilt go for it! Most importantly have fun.

While I do not want you to stint on the fabric you use for your boom square if you don’t think you have a use for the leftovers please return any usable fabric to me. I need to make four more of these squares and it would be helpful to have a little bit more fabric than I have and its not available online.

I will post the fabric, and an example of what the middle square and skull squares will look like and a beautiful 5 minute animation that talks about Day of the Dead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCQnUuq-TEE It always makes me tear up a little but I’m a wimp.
Middle square: Instead of a wedding couple there will be three musician's in the middle. Sorry didn't get black skull square pictures yet.

Muse&Sew 01-08-2017 09:13 PM

Terri prayers are sent your way! That is one of the hardest situations of losing a child. Prayer you will all be comforted.

Muse&Sew 01-08-2017 09:16 PM

Bummer Janice, I did the wrong baggies too! Sorry! Now I know. I sent you the tracking number.

Hello to all. Can't sleep to much excitement yesterday. Doctors expressed shock and guarded optimism that baby Liam is breathing on his own. He is in NIC, death is NOT imminent, hope to find out prognosis and diagnosis today. This little guy is a miracle.

terriamn 01-09-2017 01:55 AM

Janice sorry I tried to edit post and delete the picture when I saw how large it was but it didn't work

Libster 01-09-2017 02:11 AM

Terri, he's a beautiful little boy. May God hold him in the palm of His hand and protect him as His will is done.

ibex94 01-09-2017 03:58 AM

Terriamn -- !!! He's a fighter!

Kassaundra 01-09-2017 04:05 AM

My fabrics are ready for shipping at last! I am sending two of each and three of the yellow in the center. Notice the striped fabric, Kaussandra? Let your inner sweet, curious, kind fairy take the fabric where it may. Ignore the mischievous fairies that are lurking...

joanelizbay 01-09-2017 04:06 AM

Oh Terri, hes so precious!! All I can say is keep praying! God must have a plan for the lil guy...Keep us updated please!! ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))

Kassaundra 01-09-2017 04:08 AM

Ibex that was the first one I saw! I seamed to have developed a "reputation" lol

I keep hoping Janice will send you all the stripped fabrics, I'm always excited about what you create with them.

Ibex those are awesome I can't wait to see the finished quilt with your fairy squares.

MJP What fun I have a couple of idea's swimming around for your block.
Want to meet for coffee next week?

ibex94 01-09-2017 04:19 AM

So many of us up so early in the morning! Hugs to all of you whether or not you're awake yet :-).

Kassaundra, I'm hoping Janice gives you one of the two stripes. :-)

Billi -- I have to get my Mardi Gras quilt done before I get to play with the fairy quilt. As slow as I am, it may be a couple BOOMs from now before the fairies are good to go, lol.

Janice McC 01-09-2017 05:52 AM

He's beautiful. :) I'll hope he continues to surprise everyone, especially his doctors.

Liam is beautiful! May he grow stronger and healthier by the minute... What a miracle baby. Congrats to the whole family.

Janice McC 01-09-2017 06:03 AM

No worries...I thought I'd put the "no hard zippers" thing in the rules but apparently it was only in the Boom 18 sign-up thread. It'll be in future rules. I hesitate legislating anything else but those will definitely be out for the future.

mjpEncinitas 01-09-2017 08:40 AM

Wonderful Liam news. Put a smile on my face and made my morning brighter. Thinking of you and your family.

Janice McC 01-09-2017 09:46 AM

Regarding shipping packages, You may ship in whatever container you wish as long as there's tracking. The mailers I use are ONLY available at USPS.com. They are free but you must make an account but you need not supply any credit cards unless you order something for which there is a charge. I've never heard anyone say they found the padded priority flat rate envelopes at a post office and mine said they're not a normally stocked item. If you want them for future booms, I'd go ahead and order a package of three or five now. I cannot recall the exact number of the smallest available bundle. I order two sets of 15 every couple of months.

I finished another baby top and tried a new technique too. the border is made with the leftover fabrics sewn onto calculator paper. It worked pretty well, all I had was the 2.25" roll. Next time I do it I want to use the 3" wide.

ibex94 01-09-2017 02:20 PM

Billi -- looks great! That is a great idea for putting a border together quickly without having to measure anything!

Janice McC 01-09-2017 02:29 PM

How pretty is that! The calc border turned out really well. :)

Great idea to use the paper to stabilize the scraps into a border, and bright and happy baby quilt.

sewbizgirl 01-09-2017 04:10 PM

Love it, Billi!

travelinggramma 01-09-2017 05:21 PM

Mjp.thanks for YouTube clip. I'm not really familiar with it so this helped.
Terriamn, prayers are being answered. God is in control.
Billi, what a great idea. I will certainly remember this as my candis never line up
