Aprils Mug Rug Swap! Theme: How Sweet it is!

April Mug Rug Swap! Theme: How Sweet it is!

Ok here we go again!!

Aprils Mug Rug Swap! This months theme is How Sweet it is!

What is a mug rug? A mug rug is an item you use to hold your cup of coffee or tea or soda and a small snack plate/napkin beside it. Its approximately 9x7 or larger so you can put that little plate on it and a mug.

1. You will be assigned a partner. This is not a secret pal swap. Each partner will contact the other partner for addresses. You are encouraged to talk to each other and find out little things about them so you can make a special gift just for them. This month we are doing a mug rug in the theme of How Sweet it is!! You can chose a sweet item for your mug rug say cookies or cupcakes or candy. You can chose to use colors that to you represent sweet things or you can chose something you think would be so sweet to get. say a bouquet of flowers! or a bunch of fresh berries perhaps? you are limited by only your imagination so go wild. this month its about what is sweet to you (puppies? kittens? lol) not your partner so you don't need to ask them about what your going to make just make sure when you send to them you include a small note saying this is what this means to me because.. (ie love cupcakes or candy or flowers or .. ) they will love it I know.

2. You must quilt your mug rug in a fashion that you are most comfortable with. If you don't know how to paper piece maybe stick to regular piecing for this item. It must be sewn, with 100 percent quilters cotton, bound, and with batting in between to protect furniture from possible destruction due to heat/cold. Be creative. Send something you would be proud to put out yourself. Be kind about what you receive. Any complaints MUST COME TO ME ONLY. Let me deal with anything please. The quilting board is a place we all come to enjoy ourselves, make friends, share ideas. Not everyone is a perfect quilter. BUT everyone tries. We all started somewhere so be considerate when posting.

3. You must send by April 26th and send me notice that you have sent to your partner. Any delays must be shared with me prior to this date. I want everyone to receive a partners trade. This calling on angels is getting old around here. Be responsible. you sign up? you send. Period.

4. You are free to include tea/coffee and a small treat to go with your mug rug. If your feeling very generous you can send a bit more but nothing is obligated. fat quarters or other fabric related items are also perfect little add on's...any of the above are always loved. YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DO THIS however so keep this in mind when sending and receiving.

5. Any questions? contact me immediately and I will help you get started.

SIGN UP TODAY! You must send a private PM to me letting me know: name, address, phone number for emergency use by me only, and if you have a preference of what you receive just send me a hint and I will share it with your partner.. Names will be given out by April 2nd the latest. sign up today! You are required by the board to send things you sign up for. If you don't you risk not having the ability to swap again in other events so make sure you follow through with what you sign up for. Again per board rules anything about your partner or the item they swap to you that does not please you is NOT to be posted on the board but sent in private email to me to sort out. Its polite and its the right thing to do.

also! please take a picture before you send as your partner might not be able to post one! don't post until your sure your partner has received and you are sure they cant post their own picture. thanks!

Yeah, almost missed adding myself!

Just so everyone knows, I normally work M-F & wouldn't be posting until I get home from work (after 5) or early before work. I'm out today with a cough, wheezing, sore throat, headache, that sort of thing. Doesn't stop me from checking QB though, apparently! I took yesterday as a vacation day to catch up on all my quilting projects, but I've been sick since Sunday so, no sewing for me. I can read QB but can't get any more creative than that!

Everybody, keep well!

klaws 03-24-2015 07:34 AM

Pamela, what the heck. Count me in this month too. I have the perfect fabric! :D I'm sending you a PM now.

dfelker 03-24-2015 11:07 AM

Just sent in my PM to the ladies, so I am in again as well. Was really debating about it...and then I heard this little voice (in my head) say, "Why not join in? Don't be such a fussy Gus... it's SWEETIES & U LuV sweeties..." and there and then I was convinced to take the plunge again this month.

NO WILL POWER, I tell ya.

I hope my partner likes what I send cuz as I said before I likes the SWEETIES and right now being on a very strict diet NO SWEETIES ARE ALLOWED :( Thank goodness for Fabric (my new sweetie)

dfelker 03-24-2015 11:08 AM

ctyankee 03-24-2015 04:52 PM

Sign-ups are still open. There is plenty of room for others looking for the sweet life!

Cactus Stitchin 03-24-2015 06:00 PM

Thank you for the welcome lynnie! I have been following these swaps for quite awhile, wanting to play, but getting cold feet at the last minute....... Since no one knows me, I'll give you just a little background about me. I grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon on a small farm and my 'zoo' right now is only a tri-colored Australian Shepherd as we lost our big, red Golden Retriever last year. Several years ago my husband's job transferred him to the Phoenix area, hence 'Cactus Stitchin'. I have been sewing since about age 9, although most of my 30 year career in HR was a bit too demanding for me to do very much of it. After moving to Phoenix I was able to begin again and 2 years ago my husband gave me an embroidery/combo sewing machine which fulfilled a lifelong dream.

I am looking forward to this swap and will do my very best to be a good partner!

lynnie 03-24-2015 06:03 PM

what machine do you have. I have the pe770 brother.
i'm still on that learning curve on the computer part. I used to be a casket embroiderer that was fun.
anyway, welcome aboard the fun. You'll see we're a great group here. Have fun.

jaba 03-24-2015 06:34 PM

Fantastic cactus! glad to have you joining us. Gives a swap new life, which I think is wonderful for any of us.

Cactus Stitchin 03-24-2015 06:36 PM

Mine is a Brother Issadore 5000 that I absolutely love. It's a workhorse and already has over 4 million stitches on it. I use several of the 'Buzz' softwares on the pc for managing my designs, resizing, and editing but have not ventured into the world of digitizing. So far many of my projects have been Anita Goodesign.

Psychomomquilter 03-25-2015 02:19 AM

I am going to have to cancel out this month. Something came up so got to cancel, hopefully I can come back in May. later... have fun everyone!

terriamn 03-25-2015 05:57 AM

Lynnie I have the same machine, still pretty new at it but sure is fun

just have to sew my binding down and I'm finished with something sweet mug rug. Ahead of the game for a change

lynnie 03-25-2015 10:36 AM

went to my friends today and she gave me a lesson on how to do the computer part.
I think I have at, so i'll go and try it now.

Elisabrat 03-25-2015 11:57 AM

Make sure you check the sign up list that is posted here by Ctyankee. between us we are trying to insure no one is forgotten. Please let her know if your name should be on there!

Also can I say I am going to ask people to pay close attention to the rules of this board. It states clearly all items are to be SEWN together. this means no fusing, no gluing no staple guns lol. Seriously take a few minutes more of your time and sew the edges together properly. If you can NOT do binding don't stress it too much then do a turn it inside out, sew the inside seam, flip it right side out again and sew along the edging in a 1/4 seam to give it a cleaner edge. I am getting a lot of complaints about the incorrect way of closing things up so remember its not a picking on you deal its simply remember to read the rules and follow them and we all will be happier. Trust me :) I think you should give as good as you can. If you don't know how why not write your partner and ask them for help on this. There are some tremendously good people here who will GLADLY give you assistance on how to do the edging. Perhaps if someone can post a link to a how to bind in several ways that would be awesome! show how to bind with binding! show how to bind with the flip and turn method! its pretty easy. I did flip and turn for a long time and still do on simple things. if you note lots of people do this here. Binding is truly lovely but if you cant do it YET don't worry!

hope that helps everyone clarify what you can and cant do. also sign ups: send to Ctyankee your NAME AND ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER (should the occasion arise where I need to contact you it will not be given out to anyone for public viewing). thanks!

SIGN UP Today your running out of thinking time! its time to think of sweet things. maybe its puppies? is it candy? is it a bouquet of Mothers Day flowers? is it pinks and yellows like a sweet treat? is it cupcakes and CANDY (hearing lots of candy lovers out there)? make sure you put it in your sign up what you love or post it here and hope your partner will see it or.. when you write your partner to trade information why not say I sure do love this sweet thing!

note: two people wrote they do not LOVE spiders at all so lets skip them this month. surely the list is longer.

lynnie 03-25-2015 12:08 PM

Well, like most people, I hate spiders.

I LOVE candy, love chocolate, cake, cupcakes, twinkies, Suzy q's.
orange cupcakes, snowballs, hohos and yodels, Did I say chocolate,
I love icing, frosting whipped cream and sprinkles, jimmies and cherries

I think you get it. all things sweet. oh and all candies. I'm not prejudiced.
if has sugar on top or in it I love it. if it has nuts or chocolate coverd nuts,
or syrup, chocolate, strawberry ect, I love it. Vanilla shakes, chocolate ones too.

Just some ideas for my partner.
