Fascinating tutorials. :-) Creativity never ceases.

SheriR 02-06-2018 08:46 AM

How many swappers do we officially have?:D

Crispy_Frog 02-06-2018 11:32 AM

Hello to all the Newbies and Oldies! This will be my 3rd year. Nothing compares to birthday month when you are in this swap. It is so much fun!

What makes it so much fun? Is it locating the fabric? Cutting the fabric? Lovingly planning and preparing the envelopes? Or maybe it is knowing that you will be buried in envelopes that you carefully open, one-by-one? And maybe it is all the daydreams that come with looking at the posted pictures of mountains of candies that will also one day be yours....thinking of all the possibilities.

trish b 02-06-2018 03:37 PM

Crispy_Frog I agree with you. On thing to remember, The very sticky plastic frays the candies when being opened, most others are fine.

travelinggramma 02-06-2018 03:51 PM

Hello everyone! I went to Walmart and purchased my card stock paper which I print on and fold in half. It fits perfectly into their A9 size envelopes (5.75 x 8.75) I can get 6 piles of candies in there and it remains nice and thin,
Anyway – my dear mother is watching me. I had to remind her of all the squishy birthday envelopes that went thru her mail box last year and that I need to reciprocate and mail these wonderful ladies a birthday card filled with them. She asks how many in each envelope. I tell her 50 but I usually put in 55 in case I miscount, mis-cut, or just for a bonus. She then asks if you all count them when you get them!!! I know I sure don’t!!

:D No!...... goodness, no I do not count what is in the packages I receive. I really get far to involved in the colors, prints and some times general silliness of this whole thing. If I am short a square or two, who knows. I have plenty from previous years and my own cuts from projects to finish projects.

Crispy_Frog 02-07-2018 10:34 AM

I liked the look of the fabric wrapped in the sticky plastic wrap and thought of buying some, except, trishb is right, the sticky stuff is hard to take off the fabric. I've lost several charms that way.

I throw in extra charms because I don't trust my counting, my cutting or my ability to distinguish the duplicates.

Lstew2212 02-07-2018 04:15 PM

I never count mine either, But I also don't trust my self and put in a couple extra. I have 5 packages packed and ready to go right now. I'm so excited.

Jane Quilter 02-07-2018 05:08 PM

I dont count in coming, but I double count going out. I would never embarrass anyone if a card was short a charm or two.

Faintly Artistic 02-07-2018 08:13 PM

Well, y'all...we have had 3 offers on our house, some very low. We Raised the price (to include paying off the solar sytem) and got a full price offer within a couple of days! Making an offer in the morning on a nice house with a good sewing area for me:) and hope to be moving mid-March. Will make sure and mail out candies in time for everyone during this time.

@ WMUTeach -- I just cut my 20th pink fabric. Well, the guys thought it was pink. *I* think it's salmon.

Crazyconnie 02-11-2018 06:23 AM

Hi,hope everyone is safe and warm today

givio 02-11-2018 06:39 AM

Hello Crazyconnie! Welcome to the Quilting Board. I hope you have lots of fun here. There are so many kind and helpful people who use this web site!
Our snow is very deep after so many days of snow. We live in town and share a driveway with the neighbor. She tried to go someplace this morning and got stuck at the end of the driveway. I hope to be able to get out around her vehicle when I need to go to work tomorrow. Might have a problem there... Plenty of shoveling to do today. It looks like I won't be ready in time to drive to church this morning.

barbarakibler23 02-11-2018 05:50 PM

Hi Ladies...
Welcome Crazyconnie! Hope you have fun with the birthday swap. Connie is one of my real-life friends that I quilt with along with a few others on here. So fun when real life meets online life!

Please let me know if I have any mistakes...dates or spelling of your board name.

Start cutting your candy squares.

I will send out the addresses for March birthday girls on February 20th. So get ready!

Barb

Texastam 02-12-2018 01:22 PM

Cutting...cutting...cutting...Lol. You girls have this down! Being a newbie I am a little slow at getting mine cut but I am getting there.

bjsmith57 02-12-2018 01:50 PM

Looking forward to getting started with this swap:thumbup:

WMUTeach 02-12-2018 04:02 PM

Wow I was tootling along making my check off grid thinking how evenly we were all spread out and Bam! I saw July. Woozers! I will be spending this week-end or may be tomorrow cutting my little squares.

I did a little snooping about the web while planing and discovered that depending on the size of your cut of fabric and how even it was, a fat quarter will give you all the little squares you need for one color and some extras. I saw numbers from 40 to 56. Either is plenty for us and some to spare! Happy cutting but be careful with that rotary cutter.

What an awesome bunch we have for the swap this year! And, two newbies to start us out! Welcome!

I have all my candies cut, counted, and ready to place in envelopes to mail. They are in temporary holding for now, a.k.a snack baggies. Just waiting for March addresses, and Let the Games Begin...... yep, I have been enjoying the Olympics!

IceLeopard 02-12-2018 08:27 PM

Me too, TexasTam. We July babies are taking over! :D

SheriR 02-12-2018 09:05 PM

What a nice list Barb! Is anyone making a spreadsheet? I can try:D

Lstew2212 02-13-2018 05:32 AM

Mine are already on the calendar. I write all my names on the 1st of the month except for the birthday that is on the 1st. I write that name on the 15th of the previous month.

I'm ready for March, April and May.

MizMelly 02-13-2018 07:40 AM

Ooofdah! First, I did up 30 sets, then the numbers grew, and I made up 34 (not counting myself), now I see we have 38??!! Well, I'm pleased to say that all that work I did last summer cutting up scraps paid off, I could probably do 50 sets!! (not that we'd want to get that big?!!!). So I have all my sets packaged up, now I just need to make a trip to the post office to buy another two sheets of the 2 oz stamps and I'm ready for the year!

Armylady2012 02-13-2018 08:39 AM

Excited to get going with the swap I have all my candies cut and have them packaged in baggies and inside the cards just waiting for the address.

Crispy_Frog 02-13-2018 11:00 AM

I'm ready to go, too! Still got 8 days until we get the first addresses.

Janice McC 02-13-2018 12:30 PM

Oh, holy cow. 38! Lol. I should have checked in earlier. I’m still on “last year’s” thread, current for me, since my birthday is in 10 Days. I see I’ll be pulling up the rear once again for this coming year. We February people rock delayed gratification! :). Sorry, must run. I have more to cut.

trish b 02-13-2018 01:24 PM

I looking forward to this years too. I've been cutting 3 strips from each new fabric I use, they add up fast.
The weather here is lovely, almost full sun and about 47F today. We are promised days in the 30's next week. Not much winter this year.

happylab 02-13-2018 05:41 PM

I have my stripes cut, just need to make the final cut, end of week or weekend project. Looking forward to the new year to begin.

Weather here is like a roller coaster. Yesterday we were high 30, tomorrow in upper 50’s, Thursday s/b near70f. I’m not complaining about the warmer temps in February. So far we have only had 5.5” of snow. No complaints there either. So far i’m Enjoying our winter.

I'm with you Sheri, I'm hoping someone who has the knowledge will make a spreadsheet for the group again this year. I'd be happy to do it but I don't know how. I've been making a list of color preferences. I guess I should learn more about the computer than just turning it on. :0)

MizMelly 02-14-2018 07:16 AM

I could do a spreadsheet, I worked with Excel for years on the job. I'd be interested in what you ladies want to see listed. Obviously month, names & B-day dates, date mailed? Date received? Anything else?
Let me know if someone else has already taken on the task so we don't duplicate!

Texastam 02-14-2018 07:27 AM

MizMelly-Could you add color preferences to the list of columns in the spreadsheet?

MizMelly 02-14-2018 07:29 AM

Of course! I just don't remember what folks said they liked. I can go back and research that, and anyone who hasn't weighed in yet can add their preferences to the discussion and I'll add to their column.

MizMelly 02-14-2018 08:33 AM

Ok, I just tried to upload this spreadsheet and I'm getting an "invalid file" message. Not sure why it won't let me attach an excel file to this message. It's not that big of a file. Does anyone have any ideas?
