Block named“spinner” for Klas. I hope you like it!

More excellent info. I tend to want to share all the tips but my posts are already cumbersome, trying to cover all bases. Glad you added these tips! Thank you, zozee!

Vikki--in addition to what's been said, are you starching and pressing everything well? What kind of thread are you using? If you're marking lines (like for HSTs) is your marking line narrow or thick? It should be narrow. Try sewing a smidge to the left of that line. Also, those directions that say cut pieces with a 7/8 fraction, go ahead and go up 1/8", then press open and trim down. When you find the perfect sewing line, you might want to put a piece of bright tape on your needle plate.

Janice McC 02-19-2019 04:55 AM

VikkiM, oh, heavens to Betsy, you are not the only one. I still struggle with the "perfect" seam allowance. You'll find whats work best for you, no worries!

Reminder to those in both groups, please be sure to post your pix to the appropriate group. Thanks!

Janice McC 02-19-2019 05:41 AM

TG, can you confirm whose block this is? PamelaOry says it's not hers. If you see your fabric, you may want to claim this beauty.

Seems funny to say thread makes a difference in your scant 1/4” seam but I have found a huge difference in the thickness in thread. I only piece with aurifil on the orange cones. Expiermented once with making the same block with 3 different threads and was amazed at the difference. Once you find a thread and needle position that works for you be sure to write it down so you will remember for next time

AnnieQuilts 02-19-2019 06:41 AM

"Write it down" is probably the best advice ever!

Janice McC 02-19-2019 07:28 AM

I live by this, not just in quilting. And I used to have a fabulous memory. Oh, well.

Me too :) I have to write everything down, as well..... and then I forget where I put that piece of paper :D

On my traveling machine I have the needle position taped right on my machine. Sometimes I go months without using it and then have to fiddle with it to find just that right spot

I wasn't sure about the huge difference in color from the very light to the very dark in the limes, I think they are a bit distracting in this block.

MJP, you and hubby did good ! Great block.

TG I will have a cocktail with you and pass around the lines if you make mine a Margarita

MJP - thank your husband for such wonderful inspiration and I thank you for making it! I am loving it!
Terri - will get the blender going!

This block is for theMerkelFamily. I have named it hot wind. As I was finishing picking all the paper out of the back, the furnace went on , and the pieces went fluttering all over! Kaffe patterns are my nemesis. Its beautiful, but I am OCD and have to push myself to work with the colors and patterns. But thanks to the booms, I am overcoming it, one block at a time. Hope it is what you wanted.

TheMerkleFamily 02-19-2019 01:48 PM

Oh my gosh! My 1st gorgeous block :) Thank you so very much TG - I love it! Perhaps Kaffe fabrics, particularly these large flowers, may seem to be a challenge but my idea was to just cut them up and add in whatever you wish - a Kaffe Scrappy of sorts? With Kaffe - anything goes!

I think you've outdone yourself here and I'm very appreciative! Thank you so much! Now, did I hear we were serving up gin & tonics?

MJP - Fabulous block - love everything about it! Hmmm.. what to do with strawberries??

Well I was suppose to work today, but on my way in my car over heated. I was able to limp it back after it cooled a bit. It has a "Dr's" appt later, but it gave me an extra sewing day. I started on (and finished) MJP's block.

I was able to get 8 repeats from the F8 and was able to get this block

I noticed after getting the 45' triangles cut that I had two stacks of half 45' triangles that were mirror imaged, so what's a fussy cutting addict such as myself suppose to do, just ignore that!!!!!!!! Well of course not. Here is the second block I was able to get from the half triangles.

I promise this is purple, almost exactly the color of purple in the print, but my inside lights and flash always turn purple blue.

mjpEncinitas 02-19-2019 04:20 PM

I’m overwhelmed Kass. The blocks are just amazing. I had you in mind when I purchased the fabric but you exceeded all expectations. And even a bonus block. Can’t wait to see them in person.

terriamn 02-19-2019 04:40 PM

Kass two more fabulous blocks

TG love your super bright Kaffee block.

Kassaundra 02-19-2019 04:50 PM

Great job, that's a lot of print but it doesn't look muddy or distracting.

That Hot Wind block is a stunner!

terriamn 02-19-2019 06:03 PM

MJP if you don’t like your bonus block it will go perfect with my purple and orange blocks VBG

JayneW 02-19-2019 07:06 PM

TG and Kass amazing blocks! Actually, everything has been incredible so far. I lost my motivation to sew tonight, however, I will be right over for the G & T!

Later is on a roll. Fine blocks all around.

MJP, your dh may have designed it but you executed it beautifully. I can taste the marmalade now. :)

It's so interesting to see all of the variations of the same design, Kass. It really showcases the fabrics so well yet looks so different every time - fantastic, again!

TheMerkleFamily 02-20-2019 06:15 AM

Another good idea! I do think I want to showcase the strawberries the most so will keep thinking about this one..
