Hope all goes well for your mom, Janice, and I hope you can get some rest while she's being cared for in the hospital.

Kass, the quilt is amazing. You are your own worst critic. The cubes are great and I really love the ones with little cubes within cubes. One day I might try this kind of optical illusion.

That's the biggest ric rac I have ever seen! Love how you used it.

Just beautiful! And... I see my block!

Libster 05-29-2019 04:38 PM

I see mine too! That's going to be a spectacular quilt!

Stormed here most of the day, earlier this afternoon a big boom rocked the house, found out what it was, this was just 3 blocks from my house, a lightening bolt hit this tree

Kass your cube quilt is amazing and fantastic.

Janice hope they can diagnose your Mom quickly and treat the problem. Do you think she will get agitated being in the hospital?

kass love your boom quilt, love the setting you chose.

Nasty storms, hope everyone is ok

Janice McC 05-30-2019 03:36 AM

Good Morning Boomers. Arrived back at the hospital a while ago to find mom much more herself and drinking lots of fluids. Amazing what 24 hours, 4 or 5 bags of fluid and multiple kinds of broad spectrum antibiotics can do! I walked in and was hugely surprised. There are still many questions about what’s going on and why but now she’s aware of most everything that happening. She can’t recall the last two days and I’d say that’s probably a blessing.

Kassaundra, I’m glad to see your boom quilt. Yesterday I read some old threads and wondered if you’d finished it.

Hope everyone one is surviving these terrible storms We’re free of them in GA for now but that won’t last long. Take care!

sewbizgirl 05-30-2019 05:52 AM

Good news about your mom... dehydration can cause a lot of problems.

No storms here... just heat and mugginess!

I will be off later today for a grandbaby visit. Can't wait to see my adorable little darling girls! I get the whole weekend with them... :o

AnnieQuilts 05-30-2019 06:28 AM

Just checked in this morning. Sending good thoughts and prayers for your Mom Janice; glad she's doing better.

Kassaundra, you and your quilt are amazing! Just took a few steps backward on a king quilt I'm making for my adult nephew. Planned a Storm-at-Sea with a 40" Mariner's compass in the middle. My math skills are no more; he's getting a traditional SAS instead.

I'll be leaving Boom 22 feedback soon. Life has been good but challenging:thumbup:

GramE 05-30-2019 09:34 AM

Janice, having been on the wrong end of dehydration too many times myself, I can tell you how much benefit there is in that bag of fluid. Glad you were able to get her in and treated. Prayers for continued improvement.

Love both those quilts, Kass.

PamelaOry, saw someone using your fabric from the last boom in a Passacaglia. I thought, mmmm I recognize those eyes staring back at me!

AnnieQuilts, I had my protractor out trying to draw a 60* triangle. I understand your frustration. Had to call a grandson, but it’s still sitting here waiting. He’s working on getting into the Navy.

TheMerkleFamily 05-30-2019 09:45 AM

Janice - I'm glad to hear your mother is doing much better this morning and hope it is as simple as dehydratation. I'm finding with my folks and in-laws (all in their 80's) that any little thing can look, feel and behave like something much bigger! So glad you took her in to be seen and treated.

Love the Boom quilt progress - my blocks are waiting for me.. I need to make add'l blocks and figure out how I want to put them all together. I'm thinking on-point but am not certain. In the meantime, I'm trying to use up some stash and have been putting together a scrappy double irish chain (on the challenge thread) but it doesn't seem to be making any difference in my stash :) I'm including some of the leftover fabric from the Boom too!

Save travels SBG - enjoy your grandbabies!

terriamn 05-30-2019 10:16 AM

Janice so glad your Mom is more her old self. Same thing happened several times with my Mom. She believed she was drinking plenty of liquid but other then coffee and a small glass of juice she just forgot to drink her water.

Sewbiz enjoy your grand baby time.

wow! I didn’t know what a passacaglia was and had to look it up. Glad I did, it’s a beautiful pattern!

someday in my future. Part of my bucket list. Two things. A Passacaglia and buying a car from a vending machine. :)

Darcyshannon 05-30-2019 05:30 PM

Everyone is so busy quilting. Ha! I have been in the sunshine and the garden. Beautiful work!

Janice, I am so glad your mom is stabilized and doing well. I hope that she will be able to go home soon.

GramE and Pam, leave it to the Italians to have inspired another beautiful piece of art.

Kass, I am glad your home was spared. Love the design you are working with the Brown blocks from last boom.

Working on a few things and home to get some more pics. Thank you for the comments on the patriotic themed finishes. I am now finishing a quilt for a friends graduation from graduate school.

Lstew2212 05-31-2019 02:49 AM

Janice, glad your mom is on the mend. Sorry to hear she was felling bad.

Kass, your quilt is amazing. I found the hidden star.

Sewbizgirl, enjoy the time with the grandkids. I love spending time with my nieces and nephew. I get to spend a week with them in July.

Janice McC 05-31-2019 06:06 AM

Third day, same hospital chair. Mom is improved enough to be royally annoyed at being in the hospital. She’s making some progress but the problems are many. Fix one, another flairs up. White count drops yesterday but jumps several points overnight so it appears the unknown infection isn’t quitting yet. You all know how this works. And at 89, anything can happen so one day’s improvement doesn’t mean much. She’s frustrated and I cannot say I’m much better. Anyway, we’ll just keep going as it will take more time.

mjpEncinitas 05-31-2019 05:55 PM

So sorry Janice. Sending your mom healing thoughts.

I feel so lucky, my mom turned 97. She walks every day, pays her bills online and uses her iPad. She’s in the independent living section of the old folks home. She really enjoys the blue and white quilt we made for her

terriamn 05-31-2019 06:49 PM

Janice sorry on your Mom having the ups and downs. One of the first times Mom was hospitalized I anxiously drove the 4 hours to see her. Was a bit miffed when I arrived and she seemed just fine. Spent the night and stopped back in to say good bye and she was totally out of it. Shocked me to see such a drastic change but quickly learned that wasn’t unusual for folks in their 80’s suffering from dehydration and a UTI

The ups and downs do a real number on the loved ones. Sending you a big hug

Janice McC 06-01-2019 05:18 AM

Mjp, I’m happy your mother is happy with her quilt. Makes me smile ear to ear.

Day 4, two hours in, same chair! Lol

Darcyshannon 06-01-2019 10:15 AM

Janice, I hope that they can find some answers soon and she can come back home.

It was quite stressful being at the hospital more than I wanted to be last month. Hope you have something to occupy yourself. I brought knitting.

Janice McC 06-01-2019 12:47 PM

Check out my new avatar. It and I are now good friends. (Must find a modicum of fun in this situation.). In happier news, the grand is growing well (now the size of a prune - there’s an image!) and baby’s mom is feeling pretty darn good most of the time. 😄 My son remains elated!

NZquilter 06-01-2019 01:20 PM

Janice, I'm really sorry to hear how your mom is doing and how hard it's been on you!

Don't you love how fruit and vegetables sizes are used to measure babies! :D Mine is now apparently the size of Swiss Chard, or another website said, a Canary Melon... So 37 weeks, Lol!

Janice McC 06-01-2019 01:40 PM

Thanks, NZQ. We’re all doing the best we can. DH sat in that fine chair for four hours while I took a nice break. He’s a keeper. :)

37 weeks already! Wow. And as long as the babe doesn’t look like a Swiss chard or a melon, all will be well! Please loop us in on the birth. Not long now. :)

Tulsa is now out of flood stage, but Muskogee, and south into Ft Smith Arkansas are all still flooded. They are thinking another week for Muskogee.

terriamn 06-02-2019 06:06 AM

My what images you are construing in my mind with watermelons, prunes and Swiss chard.

Janice I think they pick the most uncomfortable chairs for the visitors chairs in the hospital. In one section I was in the chairs were wood backs and seats. Talk about “uncomfortable”.

Latest infection is starting to dry up. Hallelujah

mjpEncinitas 06-02-2019 06:24 AM

Janice I wish we all lived close so we could visit with you.
hang in there NZ, Get some sleep while you can. Can’t wait to see pics.

Janice McC 06-02-2019 07:31 AM

Day 5 in the chair

mjp, oh, boy! I’d welcome the company. Dh has been fantastic. He’s cancelled an important biz trip he’s had scheduled for weeks for Mon-Wed. Thank goodness. Mom doesn’t have any friends left and so it’s just us and my sons. DS#2 surprised us with a visit on Thursday. He was in Atlanta for Biz so he got to see his g’mother. And DS#1 was here just 2 weeks ago and in a pinch, can probably come down for a few days. Mom is getting tired of feeling so bad but who can blame her? Hope all of you are well. And NZQ, dont even think about watermelons!

I've been working on more fabric designs. Here are a couple of the Zuni designs I've finished. I have a couple of others that I haven't uploaded yet, so the files are way to big to post.

These two zuni prints I designed specifically for fussy cutting, each images has a 1/4 inch minimum seam allowance.

This one was part of a paint by number challenge.

Kassaundra 06-03-2019 04:08 PM

Those two zuni images are way big, the biggest part of each print is less then 8 inches.

Oh and one more I forgot to post this weeks challenge design was post cards, this is my version of postcard plaid

After the challenge I will take the post cards off (and the writing) and use it as a contemporary plaid. (make a second design of it, might even play w/ some different colors)

Sorry about all the posts, here is what the layout for the two Zuni prints will actually look like.

Cool designs, Kass!

Kassaundra 06-03-2019 07:34 PM

Thanks, I'm hoping to get enough of the Zuni designs made and printed before the next Boom to include them w/ my fabric. Learning how to make the computer and software do what I want it to has been a challenge for sure.

Kass they are all awesome

Janice McC 06-04-2019 03:24 AM

Kassaundra, I love the dragonfly print! These will make interesting and beautiful additions to your quilt.

So I’m out of that chair after 6 days. Mom’s been moved to hospice service. She’s in too much pain with a multitude of problems so she’s decided she’s had enough. She wanted out of the hospital and we were able to make that happen for her. These coming weeks will be tough and I’m needed pretty much around the clock. Boom 23 will have to be postponed a bit as I’m consumed with this situation we all find ourselves in. I know you all understand. I will run Boom 23, but it may be a few weeks later than I anticipated. Will keep in touch.

terriamn 06-04-2019 04:36 AM

Janice I am so sorry to hear about Mom. Hoping your family gets fantastic care from the hospice team and that she will be given something for her pain. The last week with my Mom was so precious and so thankful I had that time with her, savor this time. My friend my heart breaks for you. Sending prayers of love and a huge hug.

Libster 06-04-2019 06:06 AM

Janice, I wish there was something I could do to make this easier for you. Just know that we all love you and we're here for you. I hope I speak for all of us in that the Boom will be just fine and waiting until you are up to it again. Spend every second with your Mom that you can. These will be the moments that you cherish later. ((((((Hugs))))))
