Thank you for my blocks, they are wonderful. I am doing some planning today, not sure if I'll actually do any sewing as my back is acting up after my class this am, I think I over did it a little.

moonrise 08-17-2019 11:47 AM

Thanks, Mona! Hope your back is feeling better. :)

We just got back home. There were hundreds of people there today, and gorgeous cars in the car show, but unfortunately not many people were shopping. We still did fair, but it was disappointing overall. The actual temperature got up to 102, with a heat index of 117. I am a puddle. ;)

Here are two blocks I finished today. The first is for Moonrise and the second is Jaba’s. I really enjoyed stitching them today. :)

Love that block Janice, thank you so much! Got a couple of blocks done but haven’t loaded the camera yet. Will do that tomorrow I hope. It’s been one of those yuck days today so haven’t done very much, just hoping this passes quickly. I need to be feeling a lot better with hubby’s surgery coming up on Thursday

terriamn 08-18-2019 06:34 AM

Mona hope your back feels better quickly, can totally relate to back problems

Janice great blocks, hope to start mine this evening

Moonrise bet you are one big puddle with that heat. We have been having fall weather here and have definitely enjoyed the cool weather

Jaba sending prayers for better days ahead

Here is what I made yesterday - and finished up this morning.

And this one is a "fix" I forgot that white was wanted and not optional, so I added some white. So this replaces the picture I posted earlier.

I'll be spending the rest of today baking

Carrot Cake (with home grown carrots)
Italian Cream Cake
Dark Chocolate Cake with Holland Creme (think SuzieQ)
Pumpkin Gooey bars (with home grown squash)

Chocolate Peanut Butter bars (no bake)
White Chocolate Fudge with Carmel (no bake)

Peanut Brittle - (with raw peanuts bought off the farm in GA)

The Open House is an internal event. Last winter my employer remodeled the old Health Center (which originally was the Convent for the Nuns that lived on campus years ago). It is now Corporate Services and relocated HR from the basement area of one of the student residential buildings, and Accounting out of the middle of the Development building, along with new offices for the President, Communications and Security (the last two are new departments). Might sound like a lot, but it's only 17 people. We have about 250 people on Campus.

Now that school has started up and everyone is back on Campus, we are celebrating our new home and inviting all Staff to come visit, learn where HR and Accounting are, have treats and enter drawings for prizes including a quilt.

For the last 15 years, I've been baking treats for Development and I'm known as a very good baker. Development has about 50 people, so I have several 1/4 sheet cake pans as a regular size cake pan was never enough!

Some gorgeous blocks showing up over here!

Macybaby, your treats sound amazing.

zozee 08-18-2019 08:55 AM

Cathy, I love the block for Libster. And the paw prints block is adorable! What’s the pattern for Libster’s? ? Your baked goods sound delectable! I’ll take a sampler, please:).

Macybaby- Wow, I love my blocks!! Thank you so much for making them for me. This quilt is going to be gorgeous. I loved Hav4's block before but you just made it even better. Hummmmm......now what time did you say we should drop by for refreshments???? LOL Everything you're making sounds yummy. I'm with Zozee, I'd like a sampler too.

Macybaby 08-18-2019 11:28 AM

Zozee- which block are you referring too?

The first is something I saw online and drew up in EQ8. it's quite simple as it's 1" finished strips with a 45 deg alternate corner. I cut them a bit long, sewed them and then cut the diagonal.

The second is called Wheel of Fortune and is in the EQ8 block library - but I did it in two fabrics instead of three. I also kept all my angles at 45 deg so I could use a large center block. It does mean the points don't go all the way to the edge at the sides. But with only two fabrics, they all look like they are floating anyway.

Macybaby, I was referring to the first one because I didn’t notice the label on the second. Both are very cool, but the first really caught my eye.

Oh, beautiful! This is one of my all-time favorite blocks.

Macybaby 08-18-2019 01:33 PM

Lucky me!! I was scrolling up and saw the block by Janice and though - wow!!! and then I see it's for me !!!

I love all the others too - it's so fun to see what everyone comes up with.

I've already picked out fabric for the next swap - while I was looking for grey, I opened up my tub of small prints I've been collecting for a log cabin quilt. I know I've got enough for several quilts, so it will be fun to use them for the swap. I've got over 30 different fabrics so it will be another that everyone gets something different.

I'm really bad when I get an idea and start collecting fabric - I always collect way more than I need.

Baking is going well, DH made a big batch of his great chocolate chip cookies, and I've got the carrot cake and the pumking bars done and the chocolate cake ready for the filling. The fudge is in the fridge cooling, and the Italian cream cake is in the oven.

I'm going to make the cream next, and then when Pumpkin bars are cool, I'll take them out of the pan so I can use it to make the chocolate pbutter bars. I only have one high side pan and I need it for them. I'm using parchment paper on everything so removing the cakes from the pans is easy.

the Peanut Brittle is last on the list. I like to watch music videos on my tablet while I'm stirring - takes 30-45 minutes to reach hard crack. I've found if I get the heat up and take less than 30 mn, the peanuts don't have near the crunch that I prefer.

Janice McC 08-18-2019 02:10 PM

Good evening, EBs. Well, happy to say today I feel almost normal. I'm still worried about the situation but thanks to a light sleeping pill, I'm getting more rest and my attitude has dramatically improved. I'm hoping it stays that way for a while. On to the Boom...

Macybaby, send some of those Pumpkin Gooey bars my way! Love the blocks you made for Terriamn, Hav, Mona G, GramE and Libster.

Moonrise, the heat in GA has been atrocious. I've got to believe it kept some of your possible buyers away, car show or no. Hope the next one goes better for you.

Jaba, what an amazing deal you got on your new machine. And love the blocks for GramE and Queenbarbiej.

Libster, another fun block for Terriamn's quilt.

I'm off to collect the pix from the other group and I hope to have all posted by tomorrow morning. Enjoy your Sunday evening! :)

Libster lighting is not very good but these colors are very bright

Libster 08-18-2019 03:48 PM

Love my blocks, Jaba! Thank you. That black just makes those bright colors pop.

terriamn 08-18-2019 04:09 PM

Macybaby love all your blocks. The cat inside the cat appliqué is really fun. All your baking sounds delicious, hope you have good air conditioning so you don’t roast hole baking.

Jaba for not feeling well you produced even more great blocks.

Janice sweet block, it’s also one of my favorites.

I managed to complete 2 blocks and almost finished a third. After not sewing for long lengths of time this summer my neck and back are letting me know they aren’t happy.

Managed to leave both of my 12.5” square up rulers at the lake. Will have to square my blocks up next week.

Janice McC 08-18-2019 05:49 PM

Jaba, thanks! Amazing what some decent sleep will do. I hope you’ll be feeling well soon. Take it easy. And btw, love the blocks, especially Mona’s. That fabric is perfect.

Thank you ladies for the lovely blocks. I have on more block to make for Hav4boys. I'm not sure what to do yet.

Janice McC 08-19-2019 04:46 AM

I'm a bit stumped now on Hav's as well. So many fun blocks have already been made.

H4B have never used this stitch before on new machine and think I have only used it once or twice before on my old machine. Made a few practice units first. It was a lot of fun to make

Hope Jaba and H4B like their blocks

Queenbarbiej 08-19-2019 09:33 AM

I just figured out the perfect pattern for Hav4boys last block.

Janice McC 08-19-2019 10:36 AM

Omgosh, Terriamn I adore your block for Hav! What a darling idea! Great blocks for Jaba, too. I love her purple fabric.

Macybaby somehow I missed my fabulous blocks you made for me. Was looking in the gallery and saw them. Thanks so much and sorry I didn’t acknowledge them sooner. They are both cute as can be.

This is an extra block for Terriamn because I had enough fabric left to make it. Does anyone notice anything else about it? Yep, I had just enough to do it. I promise the corners are gray and it's square. It's storming here so I took the picture on my sewing desk. The wood underneath is making the corners have a greenish tint. This should give you 20 blocks for your quilt, Terri. Hope you can use it.

Janice McC 08-19-2019 12:51 PM

Way to go, Libster!

Here is a small sampling of the treats I made for the office open house - we had a good turnout - and I overheard several people say they came specifically to sign up for the quilt raffle.

And here is the finished quilt from the Sooner block swap. The block in the lower right has a square of fabric from all the other participants.

Macybaby, the quilt turned out beautifully! It's so bright and cheery! Congratulations. And the treats look delish.

Quick note that the gallery is glitching on a select few pictures. It duplicates some photos and others it seems to drop. I cannot get a handle on it but as I find the goofs, I'll try to fix them. Thanks.

Macybaby, Those treats look yummy, and the quilt is beautiful. I love the idea of putting a sample of everybody's fabric into a block. Great Idea.

I agree, love the idea of using a piece of each fabric for a block..so I'm going to steal your idea! It would work great to to make a label if it doesn't match the top. Thanks Macy!
