Just wanted to chime in and say I love all the blocks being made here! You are all being so creative.

Macybaby, such a lovely quilt! I'm hoping to have mine put together soon, after I finish a few quilts that have deadlines.

hav4boys 08-20-2019 07:02 AM

Macy, that quilt is stunning. I love all the bright colors. Awesome job!

And here is the finished quilt from the Sooner block swap. The block in the lower right has a square of fabric from all the other participants.

Took dd and 3 grand’s out to lunch and back to school shopping for tennis shoes. Ouch! They were well behaved and we had lots of giggle time.

This is for Macybaby, almost have HB4’s block completed.

So I am doing a sideswap with Sewbizgirl over in Night Owls. I have her center done, have had it done for a while but wasn’t convinced that I liked them together. No problem, lay it aside, it will look different on a different day.

So a different day came, yesterday and I decided to put them together, but I cannot find her fabric. Hasn’t been cut, but it has been staring at me from the front of the BoomBin for a couple of weeks. No where. Not panicking, but anxious. Nothing in the sewing room gets thrown away without being sifted through at least twice. I have a small can and a bigger can that is supposed to be sifted through stuff, but i’ve Been known to sift twice!

Knowing it could be stuck on something and I don’t know it kinda worries me. But I have a quilt to finish, a birthday bag to make, and a follow up eye appointment to keep me busy.

As I sat down here tonight to call it a night, a neon sign flashed in my head, “it’s in the copier”. And my second thought was what’s in the, oh, that’s where Sewbizgirl’s fabric is, in the copier. I was trying to figure out if a way I wanted to cut it would work so I copied it onto 3 sheets of paper so I could cut without worry. But, I didn’t lift the lid and take the fabric out! Aaaahhh. Relieved. It will stay in the copier until I rescue it in the morning.

I love solving problems. I love it more when they aren’t mine! ❤️

Janice McC 08-21-2019 02:32 AM

Oh, my goodness, GramE. Number one, I love your ingenuity of using the copier and number two, I know the sinking feeling of "losing" an F8. Glad you had your neon light moment!

Morning! Catching up again this morning. Better to be inside than outside since it'll be another scorcher today. The pups are going to require their morning constitutional despite the heat but I'm stalling as long as possible since I'm so sleepy this morning and heaven forbid, I've given up coffee. Egads!

Terriamn, Love the soft colors in Macybaby's block. The cherries are cheery and I like that large center of yours for Hav with all those kitties. Glad you had your giggle time with the grands.

Boom Biz - Color requests

Reminder to everyone to read and reread the color requests before making your blocks. It’s important to use the colors requested as often as possible or your block may end up not being used. Anyone with questions about a particular request should contact the fabric owner directly, post here or ask me and I’ll handle it. Thank you!

We're definitely having issues in both groups so I'm making the unusual request that everyone go back and review the requests that came with your fabrics. If you spot an issue, please see if you can fix it.

I cant afford those expensive computer programs, so I try to get by with what I have. It isn’t perfect but it gives me an idea of what it will look like. I’ve taken a picture and cut it up to, but sizing is an issue.

Jaba sending prayers for hubby’s successful surgery tomorrow

jaba 08-21-2019 06:20 PM

Posted totally in the wrong group, I finished these blocks:). That’s okay, my mind feels very old. Thanks for prayers, he’s never had any major surgery and very use to being busy busy. This will be an experience for sure

Libster 08-21-2019 06:44 PM

I'll be saying a prayer for both of you tonight and tomorrow, Jaba. I'm so glad you have a neighbor who will help you out.

sewbizgirl 08-21-2019 06:52 PM

I'm also praying for your husband's good outcome from surgery, and your health, Jaba.

Queenbarbiej 08-22-2019 03:11 AM

one item to be aware of, the blocks sewn as teh instuctions state end up being more around 12" UF instead of 12.5"

I've heard that from many people and found it happening for me to. It's probably because when you sew the sections together on the lines, you are getting a full 1/4" seam or even a bit more. I've gotten so I always remove the papers before I join sections. I leave the side that will be on the "outside" of the block long, and trim the seam sides of the wedges a bit wider than teh cutting lines. Then I sew like normal with my scant 1/4" and I end up with much better results. By leaving the outer edge untrimmed, after the 8 wedges are sewn together I've got extra on the outer side and can trim the block to what I need.

I've made all 50 of the blocks, but have not assembled them. One of my longer term UFO's at this point.

Here is a block I made for myself. This is the "participation" block and I've used scraps of fabric from all the blocks made. I had a lot of triangle cut off pieces so this worked very well.

terriamn 08-22-2019 10:13 AM

Macybaby thanks for the tip on The Star block.

Your participation block is great, the gold goes with all the fabrics

jaba 08-22-2019 03:10 PM

Bill is home and doing pretty good. Sleepy today, the next two days will probably be the toughest, we'll see tomorrow. He'll be sleeping in the recliner for a few nights. Soup on the menu for dinner

sewbizgirl 08-22-2019 03:46 PM

I was just thinking about y’all and wondering how it went today, Jaba . Good to hear the surgery is over. Wishing for the best the next few days. Thanks for checking in.

Janice McC 08-23-2019 04:13 AM

Morning, EB's. Yesterday was so busy I didn't really spend any time on the swap or blocks. I've got 2 partially sewn blocks on my wall and a few sections of a third cut out but I probably won't get to them until next week.

Macybaby, I love this idea. Pretty block!
