I messed the border up on mjp’s block, gonna have to do it over. I shouldn’t sew when i’m Anxious. The 10” center block that I hand sewed is fine but me and that machine don’t always get along.

I have one EB and one NO block left and seems the family cannot get a break... or maybe too many breaks. My husband is a federal protection officer and fell at work yesterday, breaking three bones in his wrist. On a good know, got some pictures of the grands as well as a family photo for them (myeldest son). Thought I would share.

GramE 08-28-2019 09:14 AM

Oh my, sorry about the “bad” breaks. Beautiful pics. Glasses pic is my fave.

sewbizgirl 08-28-2019 11:15 AM

Great family pics, Hav! Sorry about your hubby’s arm. Those two grandboys sure are adorable!

Libster 08-28-2019 12:11 PM

Hav4boys, the littles are just precious! That blonde hair is angelic. Poor DH! I hope he's righthanded, if not, he's going to need help with things for quite a while. Thanks for sharing with us.

hav4boys 08-28-2019 12:19 PM

Unfortunately he is right handed.

Janice McC 08-28-2019 02:44 PM

Hav, adorable grands! Sorry about DH’s injury. Hope it heals quickly.

H4B beautiful family pictures and your grandsons are absolutely precious. Sorry about your dh’s fall, he looks like he is taking it well. Mine would definitely not be smiling.

Three more blocks to share.

Moonrise

This is for GramE, a variation of Buzzsaw. I thought the blue would enhance the block but not happy how it turned out

Another one for Moonrise. Wanted to change this block around a bit also. Sewed one section then checked and double checked before sewing more. Didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. Decided I really liked this variation. The teal fabric was beautiful to work with

Hav4boys, sounds like our husbands are in the same boat! Bill doing really well, I’m so glad. Sleeping is the problem, never comfy and that will last for a few weeks. Took the two of us but we did manage the grocery store today and did well. :). Gotta do that when you need bread, milk, and veggies. Ahhh, again those miracles of growing old.

GramE 08-28-2019 07:04 PM

I like the block Terri. It’s totally different. That blue sure was a good choice though. And a last second one to boot!

Here is a bonus block for Hav4boys. I hope this works for you.

sewbizgirl 08-29-2019 07:17 AM

Pretty blocks, Terri and QB! I love that one for Moonrise, Terri.

hav4boys 08-29-2019 07:22 AM

Love the block QBJ. Much appreciated.

Terriamn, here's mine for you. I liked the idea of the bunnies hopping all around the block. And after all the talking about color requests, I almost didn't add the wow you requested along with the light grey. Caught it just in time! I hope this will work for you. Your fabric will make a wonderful quilt for any child!

terriamn 08-29-2019 01:45 PM

Thanks Janice for the hopping around the block of bunnies. Light gray was fine alone I just added minimal white if someone needed a third color. Thank you for double checking my color requests.

GramE 08-29-2019 02:44 PM

Lovely bunny block Janice.

Pretty block, Janice. It was very effective using the focus fabric for the background. Love the bit of 'sparkle' the two white hsts add.

moonrise 08-29-2019 07:31 PM

I love love love my blocks! Thanks so much! <3

...

Wow, it's been a rough week for some of us! Add me to the list of "boo boos". :(

My right shoulder has been bothering me for awhile, but this week it's been absolutely screaming at me. I suspect it's tendinitis or a rotator cuff problem, but I'm too stubborn to go to the doctor. I'm just trying to deal with it as best I can.

On top of that, my beloved sewing machine started making a gosh-awful screeching sound that's worse than fingernails-on-a-chalkboard. Whew! DH took it apart and thinks it's the rotating thingy that the bobbin case sits in. Without telling me ahead of time, he oiled it. The manual says specifically not to! :hunf: But the screeching stopped. I've been too afraid to use it, though, for fear of tearing it up worse. I dragged out my $100-Walmart-Special backup sewing machine that works, but it only has the most basic of functions. I feel like I'm trying to color in a detailed grown-up coloring book with those big chunky kindergarten crayons. Accuracy? Who needs it? (ha) And it sounds like a helicopter. LOL! But at least it sews ... if not clumsily ... right? :p

Needless to say, between my shoulder and the sewing machine mess, I haven't gotten a single swap block made so far this week, and very little made for my craft fairs.

I'll get 'em done, though. One way or another. :)

Where's that bubble wrap suit? ;)

moonrise 08-29-2019 11:00 PM

I managed to get three done. :)

Two for Libster. The first is a mottled red, and I based it on an Indian Star pattern from Quilter's Cache. I changed the center a little since the original pattern was for a 3-color block, and I wanted it to look like an exploding star. I didn't see many red blocks on the gallery page, so I thought I'd make one. (It really is red ... just in case it looks pinkish in the picture.) :) The second one is a Next Door Neighbor block, also from Quilter's Cache, with a border added to it. I used the same fabric that you sent, only in a blue colorway. :)

And one for MonaG. That's actually a chocolate-y brown color that matches the swirlies in the F8. The colors look a little wonky on my screen for some reason. The gold metallic highlights in the F8 really shine in the picture. LOL!

Sorry for the lousy pics. It's 3am, and these are cell phone pics, so the lighting and quality aren't the greatest. :p

sewbizgirl 08-30-2019 01:41 AM

Those are beautiful blocks, Moon... Love that red star. It’s so striking!

I’m up due to sinus infection and I thought if anyone would be posting in the middle of the night, it would be you... and there you were! Thanks for the eye candy.

Libster 08-30-2019 03:59 AM

Love my blocks, Moonrise! That red is perfect for the star and the blue reminds me of a spinning comet. Kudos to you. Love them both. Thank you.

terriamn 08-30-2019 06:27 AM

Moonrise love your blocks. Best of luck on sewing machine and shoulder.

Sewbiz, hate sinus infections, were you able to go back to sleep. Hope you are feeling better.

My 1/4” is a little off on machine here at lake. Going to play with it and see if it’s possible to move the needle over a hair. On a finished block it’s oversized by about 1/8”. Brought a paper piecing design to keep me busy if I can’t figure the needle position

Janice McC 08-30-2019 07:03 AM

Bubble wrap suit? Who has the bubble wrap suit? Moonrise asked for it first but when she’s done, send it my way. I just joined the “I Fell Club”. It’s a small but distinguished group but this wasn’t a group I planned to join. While walking the dogs on a shady dirt road, I didn’t see a washed out area and I stepped in it so down I went. Knee is cut up and scraped, hand hurts from trying to break the fall but I ended up hitting my head and scratching my sunglasses, not to mention tearing the knee of my most comfortable capris. (I see a patchwork patch in their future.) And of course, the otc pain reliever here is 3 years expired so DH is heading up the road to get something. I’m icing now and hope this won’t put a damper on what was supposed to be a fun long weekend at the cabin. But it could have been much worse.

Moonrise, hope your shoulder improves soon and that your regular sewing machine will be ok. Love your blocks but that red star in particular is eye catching. Sewbizgirl, sorry to hear about your sinus infection. Hope it clears quickly.

terriamn 08-30-2019 08:04 AM

Dang Janice, was hoping for new members to our little club. Did you have to hobble back very far? Not the best of starts to your long holiday weekend. Think we should all buy some stock in bubble wrap, hopefully you can sit outside and enjoy Mother Nature and not put to much pressure on your body

jaba 08-30-2019 08:29 AM

Moonrise, don't let that rotator cuff go....it only gets worse and then you'll have trouble. Might be worth the money to have it checked out.
I'm almost scared to come on here and read. Don't want the woes to come out of this screen and smack me :) I told Bill yesterday if I had his legs and he had my arm we could be a whole person. Think we will hibernate for the weekend and play it safe. Watching the hurricane updates and wondering if our house is going to still be there. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't get us except for the wind and rain but this one may be different. Son just called and he's going to go over and drain the pool down so it doesn't flood the house, they've had rain and more rain all this week. It will be interesting for sure.
Get well ladies, no more falls and trips, colds and sinus.....you get it, everyone get well :)

sewbizgirl 08-30-2019 09:07 AM

Ouch, sorry about that fall Janice! Good thing you didn't break something. We can always grow more skin, right? Hope you feel better quick.

I called in sick at 7am and then went back to bed. Slept til 11! I hope all this sleeping is doing the sinuses some good. The doc put me on a Z-pac yesterday and gave me some sort of shot... so I hope to start feeling better soon. Still no energy.

We are watching the storm develop too. Hope you house is safe, Jaba.

Janice McC 08-30-2019 09:16 AM

Terriamn, I was only a couple of hundred yards from home. It’s one reason why I know it could have been much worse. Swelling is subsiding but I’ll be feeling this one for a couple of weeks. Jaba, smiling (with reservations) about the whole person remark. Dh and I have been ill at the same time but never with anything big. We’ve been watching the hurricane and clearly it’s going to be bad for many. I’ll hope for the best for your family and the house. I’m glad you are up north for this one.

Libster 08-30-2019 11:22 AM

Janice, be kind to those knees, you're going to need them for a long time yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I don't want to put in a request for our "bubble suit"!
Moon, I hope you and your machine are getting better. I really hate it when my workhorse is ailing.
Sewbiz, hope the meds kick in and start working soon. I hate when the front of my face feels like it's falling off.
Jaba, I'm keeping you and your DH in my prayers. Hopefully your son will get everything boarded up and drained and your property will survive the storm. My DD#1 and SIL are there now at their condo. He's stubborn, I hope she talks him into coming home now. I dread thinking of them stuck on the roads trying to get out at the last minute.
Terri, I hope your machine gives up that 1/8th inch for you. Changing machines can sure be aggravating sometimes.
Everybody in the storm's path, be safe! Prepare now.

jaba 08-30-2019 02:43 PM

This storm is truly headed straight for us, but we really won't know until Sunday or Monday early morning. Most of the time it misses us but I think this one is a tad bit different. My stomach has been going up and down for the last 2 days but it will be what it is. We have good insurance and can always fix or move :) that is just the way I have to look at it and be able to cope.

Are you evacuating? This really does look like a serious storm. At a time when you don’t need more stress. Prayer for safety for all!

Macybaby 08-30-2019 03:28 PM

DH and I though his father was going to take the motor home and head to Texas. Called today and found out he decided not to leave after all. He's in the middle of the state (FL) , and at least does not need any medical devices that need electricity. He lives with a full time caregiver so he's not alone.

My DD and her fiancee were vacationing on the east coast of FL and headed back to Atlanta this morning - she said the traffic was really bad.

jaba 08-30-2019 06:02 PM

GramE we are still in Wyoming, Bill needs to start physical therapy here before the doc will let him leave. My oldest son is in Lakeland so we are kept very up to date. Depending on the outcome of this we will have a decision to make. It just drives me nuts waiting, can’t change anything but it doesn’t make it any better or less stressful

terriamn 08-30-2019 06:04 PM

Macybaby glad your dd headed for Atlanta hope your dad will be ok. Jaba is your son evacuating?

GramE 08-30-2019 06:28 PM

Good news! I just won $50 certificates from Blackbird Fabrics of Vancouver British Colombia. They have some beautiful fabrics. I could use $50 of free fabric but my daughter is trying to influence me in my purchase. May just let her use the whole $50!

Better than a trip trip down the hallway over the dog!

Congrats, GramE! Enjoy whichever way you decide to go with your winnings.

terriamn 08-31-2019 07:04 AM

Yeah GramE, just enjoy whatever you decide to use the gift certificate for

Janice McC 08-31-2019 09:01 AM

GramE, congrats on your win and ditto what Terriamn said. Just enjoy it whichever way you go.

Last look at the hurricane track shows it might be heading more north. It's not good for coastal GA and the Carolinas but we're ok as far as we are inland. It'll do what it's going to do and we all wait.

I'm sore all over from the fall and found some new bruises. My knee is still sore but improving. Walking is good but it's tender to bend deeply so I'll just avoid that for a few more days.

Stay safe this holiday weekend everyone!

Glad you are recouping and I hope this isn’t contagious! My knee has some bruising and is only tender when bent.

May have to turn my sewing machine off for a week, 4th grandson is leaving to begin his service to our country with the Navy in 11 days. He was supposed to be going in January, but they need recruits now. His parents house is undergoing paint, old carpet up but new carpet not down, etc. Not what you want for a going away send off. So two sides of family might be coming here. I have a few too many cobwebs that need chased away, some windows washed, and a hundred other things that my mind is thinking of that really aren’t important. Will start Monday, (thinking of barter items I can use to get friends to come help me, like cinnamon rolls, chocolate chocolate chip muffins, pumpkin muffins in exchange for a bathroom cleaning and the like) unless someone else volunteers their home. It is amazing how honored I feel to be a part of these special young men’s lives. But they are grown up and I miss them so.

Mona G 09-01-2019 09:40 AM

I hope everyone starts to feel better soon. Moon, thanks for the block, I was wondering who got that fabric and what they would do with it, it turned out great. I hope to get some sewing done today and tomorrow.

did you use fabric on your cover? I'd like to recover my little gma's old
