I was trying to finish up a quilt for another open house at work - and my LA decided to stop working with about 15 square inches of quilting left to do! I was doing an all-over computer pattern.

DH did some looking and cleaning, and he's going to call HQ tomorrow morning and see what they recommend, and then he'll probably be taking it to the dealer if needed. DH is quite good friends with our dealers. When ever I go there to get supplies of for a class, DH ends up in the back room talking to the repair guys.

I took the quilt off the frame, then used my thin Mylar to trace the pattern and then put golden paper over the top and traced it - so now I"ll glue that in place (washable glue of course) and finish it up on my domestic machine. Golden paper is sort of like tissue paper, made to mark and then stitch right over and remove.

I'm going to try this on my Babylock, never tried FMQ on that machine, but I have done in before I got my LA.

Good luck Macy, glad you only have a small area left to quilt

Cathy, it's not fun to switch machines while quilting! Sounds like you have a good plan, tho.

Baby Ivy came to visit on Friday!

Jaba, it is quiet here. :) Happily, I can say that once again I'm able to sew fairly straight (thank you doc for new meds!) so I've been able to make a block for Hav so here it is:

Sewbizgirl, darling photo of your grand. Here's my grand...Am trying to respect my DILs privacy but still show you something of the babe. No idea of the sex. They don't want to know. (Darling little tummy, she's just over halfway.)

Mona, hope you enjoyed the wedding.

That's it for me. Nighttime meds are kicking in and I can barely see straight. Pleasant evening EB's!

Janice fun block for H4B and sweet picture of your grand baby snug as a bug in it’s nice warm cocoon.

Macybaby no neutrals here. I had already picked your contrasting fabric then saw this at the quilt shop and it just screamed pair me with Macy’s fabric. Hope you like it, Block is called Summertime Fun

Just a quick check-in. Will have to catch up on the thread in the next day or two.

Macybaby 09-09-2019 05:22 AM

Thanks terriamn - that is very nice!

I was able to finish up the quilting using the babylock. Got it bound, washed and now it's hanging in my office until it's needed for the open house.

Libster 09-09-2019 06:57 AM

Janice, it's so good to hear that you're feeling better! Those meds can work wonders . Love that heart pattern. I might have to copy that one into my block workbook to save for later.

hav4boys 09-09-2019 09:53 AM

Janice, Love the block for me and congratulations on the grand baby. Grands are so much fun.

sewbizgirl 09-09-2019 02:08 PM

Darling tummy, indeed! This time next year, you will be playing with your own bundle of love. Pretty block for Hav. Glad you could do it!

Terri, cute block for Macybaby, with such fun fabric.

Moonrise, I would imagine you are busy sewing for the Fall craft fair season. Hope it’s a good one for you.

moonrise 09-09-2019 08:38 PM

Love my "T" block! How perfect!

Yep, much busier than I anticipated ... and unfortunately, not in a good way. We've had a "Murphy's Law" kind of summer. Posting all the details would turn into a book, but suffice it to say that things have been challenging since mid-May (understatement). :( Craft fair-wise, I was lucky to find a local farmer's market that was accepting new vendors for the summer, so DH and I have been there every Saturday, even in 102-degree heat, selling our handmade things. My regular craft fair season starts in late September / early October, which is when the farmer's market ends, so the timing was perfect. Sales weren't exactly fantastic, but it was enough to help a bit with finances. :) However, last week, the coordinator of the farmer's market suddenly shut it down weeks early, leaving everyone hanging. I've been scrambling to find other events to do, but with such short notice, it's almost impossible. I did find something for this weekend, thankfully, so I'm scrambling to get some extra things made. I've been alternating between that and working on the Boom blocks ... mostly working with my left hand because my right shoulder is still yelling at me. Loads of fun! LOL!

But anyway, yeah ... needless to say, I've been busy!

I think I have around 5 Boom blocks left to finish. I hope to get them done within the next few days. :)

Queenbarbiej 09-10-2019 03:27 AM

You ladies are doing a wonderful job on the blocks.

Janice McC 09-10-2019 05:05 AM

Mioonrise, I'm sorry to hear the craft fair/market biz has been so challenging. It's tough when you plan on something and it falls apart with no warning. Shame on them for disappearing and leaving everyone hanging. I hope a new opportunity presents itself soon! Much luck!

Thanks, y'all! <3 Glad the new meds seem to be helping, Janice!

I was able to finish up the Boom blocks this morning. Somehow I saved the blue ones until last. LOL!

Here's another block for Libster. I make myself do a paper-pieced block occasionally just to see if I still dislike paper-piecing. Yep, it's still not my thing. LOL! But it does make pretty blocks that would be tricky to do otherwise. :)

And here's three for MacyBaby:

And two for QueenBarbieJ:

I'm ready to mail them back in whenever Janice gives the word. :)

Queenbarbiej 09-10-2019 01:22 PM

Thank you Moonrise. My blocks are wonderful. The colors you paired with them are perfect shade of blue. Thank you.

Reminder! Blocks will need to be finished and in my hands one month from today on October 10. Please keep that date in mind.

I cannot speak yet about what turned up at my home today and how I feel about it. For now, I’ll simply say, “thank you”! You’re amazing women.

Janice McC 09-12-2019 01:54 AM

Thank you to all of you who joined in to make what is my favorite quilt of all time. I knew something was coming since Libster made sure I’d be home when it arrived (a lady after my own heart) but I had no idea of the scope and beauty of your kindness. I fell asleep quite contentedly last night and awoke with a smile. I think i know who made some of the blocks but each is perfection as is the quilting, including mom’s name. Thank you.

jaba 09-12-2019 09:09 AM

So happy that it brought a "contented" feeling and put a smile on your face. I hope every time you look at it you will know just how important you are to all of us. Wrap yourself up cozy and feel the love :) That's what those comfort quilts are suppose to do right?

Janice McC 09-12-2019 10:23 AM

Ok to ship early!

Oh, boy, Jaba, it was so much more than a contented feeling. I’d had a pretty rough day but when I opened the quilt, I balled like a kid from surprise. Seriously! Lol. It’s so pretty and just was exactly the right thing at the perfect moment. And you can bet I slept under it. DH is in NYC (on 9/11 no less) and he’s still there today, our 38th anniversary. It couldn’t be avoided so a gift like that took me to a very happy place! Thank you all.

If there is anyone who wants to ship their blocks early, go for it. I’m certain I can pull out the remainder of the swap and besides, I’ve had so many offers of help, I’ve got a big handful of people who have my back. Ship away! If you haven’t prepaid your shipping, please remember to send along $8 for return shipping costs. Thanks!

Libster 09-12-2019 10:49 AM

Happy Anniversary, Janice! Sorry your DH couldn't be there but that just means y'all can plan something really special for a little later on. You know, stretch things out and enjoy them a little longer! I'm so glad our quilt arrived at the right time for you. I'm a firm believer that things happen as they're meant to be.

NZquilter 09-12-2019 11:21 AM

Happy Anniversary, Janice! I want to apologize that I didn't make a block for your lovely quilt. It's not that I didn't care, because I truly do. I had picked out my fabrics and was all ready to stitch away. But the next day my Baby was born and I totally spaced it for weeks! I felt awful and still do. Just know that, even though I forgot to make a block in time, I would have loved to contribute to your gift. ((Hugs )) It's a beautiful quilt and you deserve it!!

Libster 09-12-2019 12:21 PM

Janice, my blocks for both groups are on their way to you. Email sent with tracking number. Now I can get back to my other set of blocks from Boom 22. Only 4 more blocks to quilt and I'll be ready to start putting them together.
BTW- Axel loves his big boy quilt! He's so excited about getting it. Their house sold in 3 days and their offer has been accepted for their bigger home. It went on the market at 8 am yesterday morning and their offer was accepted yesterday afternoon. Closing date for both houses is in October. Things are working out great for them.

Janice McC 09-12-2019 03:14 PM

NZQ, there is absolutely nothing to apologize for! I seldom mention online the host gifts I receive or those who send a few extra dollars to carry someone who has come up short on shipping, that kind of thing. It’s never expected and I fear by posting about it, folks may feel obligated. The only obligation is to complete your Boomer blocks as best you can and pay shipping costs. That’s it. I send thank yous by email or I write a note. But this quilt was so amazingly unexpected and it’s arrival timing couldn’t have been better that I had to post a thank you on line. I couldn’t be quiet about this one but nobody should ever feel bad bc they didn’t make a block. Life is all about priorities and those that had time to make blocks did and not for a split second will I ever question why any particular boomer didn’t make a block. Boomers are the best and it has nothing to do with whether a block was contributed to the quilt or not. NZQ, big hugs for you.

jaba 09-12-2019 04:25 PM

I'll get mine put together and in the mail in the next day or so. Will let you know Janice when I send.

sewbizgirl 09-12-2019 07:10 PM

Happy Anniversary, Janice!

Macybaby 09-13-2019 05:05 AM

I'll get my blocks out once I can get out. We didn't get mail yesterday and won't today either. Can't get tot he PO office.

I was suppose to attend a Floriani class today and tomorrow. Drove around for 45 min and can't find an open road out of the area. The bridge right to the north of us is still holding, but the water is rising there and is starting to come over the road. Once it flows over the road, it might take the bridge out. That one is a larger creek. The one to the south, the water is going down but not enough yet to see if the road is still there. That one is drainage and is only fed from the local area. the nest road to the west, water is down but there is a cut in the road so not passible. Another mile west and the abutments are out. Can't go any farther west as the James River is there. We have no roads going east from our property between the two bridges.

We did cross the north bridge to the paved road- went east and the main bridge over the creek (same one we just crossed) was fine, but a bit farhter there is a culvert under the road and that had a barricade and you could tell the road was sunk there, so it's probably washed the dirt out from under the pavement. Won't be passible until fixed.

We alreayd know that none of the dirt roads north of that will get out so we didn't try any.

That paved road to the west crosses the James River. I checked this AM and the river was 2" below record crest, so that would put that road way under water. At least that one does flood in the spring and normally had no damage once the water recedes. It does not flood where the river flows under the bridge, just the valley up to the bridge.

We are hoping when the water to the south goes down, the road will still be there, then we'll be able to get out. If it is damages, then we'll hope the bridge to the north holds (they rebuilt it a few years ago) and once the James goes down, we can get out that way. Otherwise we won't get out until the roads are fixed.

At least we have plenty of food, water and electricity, and it's warm. Normally we get trapped for several days at a time due to snow fall.

I'll spend the day sewing!

sewbizgirl 09-13-2019 05:34 AM

That sounds horrible, Cathy. I had no idea you were in the midst of so much flooding! Please stay safe!

I have ran into a predicament. Thought I was done and was packaging up my blocks to mail and noticed I had not made a block for Jaba in the purple. Does any one have scraps? I need 1.5 inch strips in the following lengths. 2 4.5 inch strips, 2 3 inch strips, and 1 4 inch strip. I will gladly pay shipping.

I have two pieces. One measures 4-3/4" x 11" and the other measures 18" x 2-1/2". Will those help? If so, PM your address and I'll pop 'em in the mail. No worries on the postage. It's just a stamp. :)

terriamn 09-13-2019 06:14 AM

Macybaby, Your state has been hammered with bad weather, sure hope when the water goes down your roads will be drivable

terriamn 09-13-2019 07:55 AM

Have 4boys I have a 4” by 18” piece left if. That helps

Janice McC 09-13-2019 08:46 AM

Macybaby, I've been out of the loop on a lot this last month. I had no idea your area was being slammed by storms. Good heavens! Stay home and dry and sew away to your heart's content!

Hav, I have a small piece I just put in today's mail to you. It's prob 3 x 4 or 5 inches. Hopefully it'll help a bit since others have mentioned they have more for you. (See, Boomers are the best!)

edited to add: strips are cut for you.

I have three blocks left but probably wont get to them until a week from today as we leave on vacation tomorrow.
Our first venture out of the USA, going to Canada.
Janice I'm glad the quilt brought you such joy, I also wanted to send a block and had the fabric picked out, just got busy and then forgot.

Janice McC 09-15-2019 05:39 PM

Mona G, you've got plenty of time. Enjoy your vacation! I've still got to finish the last one for Hav. I've got half an hour's applique work and yet I cannot seem to get around to it. (It takes me forever to applique since I seldom do it.) I hope to do it this week.
