Cute block Hav4.

I got 2 of the quilts binded, the one below was a boom quilt, the blocks are from a couple different rounds. This will be part of a silent auction fundraiser.

GramE sorry I missed your very pretty block till just now. Very soft and inviting

sewbizgirl 08-02-2019 10:06 AM

Love how your quilt turned out, Mona. And... I see two blocks I made!

Janice McC 08-02-2019 10:18 AM

Thanks for posting this, Mona. Looks wonderful! I've added it to the gallery with the note it's from multiple Booms.

Boom Biz - package count

Reminder for the group that I'm not sending f8s but only making them for the group. Because of this, everybody will receive one less F8 in the Early Bird packages than you sent, except for GramE as noted below. Most of you sent 19 so you will be receiving 18 when your package arrives with the following exceptions:
Mona G, you sent 9 so you will be receiving 8.
Terriamn, there were 18 in your package, so you will be receiving 17.
GramE, you sent 20 but I'll keep 2 and make 2 so you are also receiving 18 Early Bird f8s in the packet. In addition, there's a side swap piece from SBG which I don't count as part of Early Bird but it's in there as well.

Please, Early Birds, be sure to count your F8s as soon as you open your package. I've counted every single F8 packet but I need you all to do the same so there's no misunderstanding down the road. Don't toss the envelope away until you've confirmed your count. Thanks!

Janice McC 08-03-2019 07:07 AM

Packages are at the post office. :)

You are asking Me to be sure and count our packets. We see how well that turned out when they were headed your way!

Finished this top last night, just in time.

Hav4, love your top! The pinwheel border is sooo pretty. Well done.

sewbizgirl 08-05-2019 11:49 AM

That's a lovely top, Hav.

GramE, lucky you... I think you are the first!

Janice McC 08-05-2019 01:39 PM

At least 3 of you should get your pkgs today. The remaining 3, tomorrow. Be sure to count and make sure everything is there. I'm off for a few days but the last of the Night Owls packages came in so the rest of you in both groups will have your F8s's ahead of schedule as well. Talk to you all soon!

My fabric is cut and ready to go, just need to get to town to get the right change for return mailing. I plan on sending enough for both mailings at the same time. DH and I rarely use cash, and though we both keep some "just in case" it's normally in larger denominations than what I need for this. DH will get change the next time he's in town for something, so I should be ready to mail this weekend.

I'm sending assorted tonal solids - no duplicates - with instructions to use prints, but no neutrals (no blacks, whites, creams/beiges or greys). I want the patterns to be due to different colors/patterns, and not the typical "light/dark"that we think of.

I'll post some pictures of what I'm thinking to help give a better idea of the concept. Though you are free to do something else if you prefer.

Macybaby - Were the example pics posted? They didn't come through on my end, for some reason. I'm going through and picking coordinating fabrics for the F8s, but want to make sure I choose something appropriate for your request. Thanks! :)

...

And I just realized I'm completely out of solid white! How did that happen? Darn. I'll have to go fabric shopping. I just hate that. :( he he :D

I received my package today and the count is good. I went ahead and made a few blocks. Moonrise Pick which block you would like. I was originally going to put the framed 4 squares with the square on point. Then I realize that it would have been too big of a block (17.5" square) so I made two blocks and I still have a 5.5" square of fabric left.
Terriamn, these are the light grey tone on tones I have. Choose which ones you would like to go with your fabrics. I have 2 of your baggies.

First 3 are for Mona.

Two for Libster

And one for Moonrise. I thought the simple design will be great for a bag. I will enclose the extra fabric for a pocket or two.

The light brown looks horrible in the picture. It does not look like that in person. I really enjoyed the one color blocks.

Oh wow! Y'all are fast! I like them both, but the second one really caught my eye. Really, though, either is fine. :) Love the cherry one, too! :D

Oh my gosh, Hav4, I love my blocks! That double star just jumps off the page! Thank you! Wow, you're fast.

terriamn 08-06-2019 03:40 AM

Queen I’d say the 2 on the right.

Wow ladies you are all quick. Very nice blocks

Macybaby 08-06-2019 03:49 AM

my squishy arrived yesterday and the count is correct. Lots of lovely fabric too! I probably won't have time to work on them until this weekend though. I'm working on a bargello and have the strips for the four quadrant sewn and laid out in the order to sew - I don't want to move them until they are sewn together.

Cheesehead 08-06-2019 03:55 AM

Just had to see what the early birds are up to this morning! Such beautiful blocks are already being made, love the Alabama block!

Cheese

Macybaby 08-06-2019 03:57 AM

Moonrise - I guess I forgot to post the picture! I'll try to remember when I get home tonight. As long as you don't use anything that would be considered a "neutral" it should be fine. And that would include any prints that would basically "read" as neutral too.

hav4boys 08-06-2019 05:15 AM

Janice... Error on my block postings. The brown is for Mona G and the red and blue are Macybaby. I ought not post at bedtime.

Janice McC 08-06-2019 05:55 AM

Quick request when taking pix so that everyone can see your work better. Please try to take them face on rather than at an angle. I have an 18x18 inch piece of cardboard that I covered with an old piece of flannel, taping the edges to hold it in place. Anyway, I can smooth my blocks out and stand it up virtually vertically on a cabinet or dresser or whatever, leaning against the wall, and the block will not slip off. Super easy to use and takes 3 minutes to make and I can take it down when done. You could even pin the blocks to a pillow or cushion and do the same.

Will reopen the gallery when I get home now that we've got some pix to share. Thanks.

sewbizgirl 08-06-2019 06:34 AM

Wow, you ladies are already turning out some beautiful blocks! You really are Early Birds! :D

Going to have to put my blocks to bed. The ones in the baggies are calling my name. But this is what I was thinking when I asked for a bit of blue. Just a pop, I will probably end this one with a white frame, adding more of the floral seems like too much.

The blocks are a beautiful and I love to bounce your interpretations around in my brain for added ideas!

hav4boys 08-06-2019 10:18 AM

GramE that is a gorgeous block. Thank you for the example. I am going to work on something now that I have an picture of what you want.

jaba 08-06-2019 01:57 PM

GramE, love your sample block! I'm jealous that some of you have started making these beautiful blocks. I'll get mine next week with the later group and then I will have lots to sew.
Finished up a huge Christmas quilt today except sewing the hand binding. Have a blue and white ready for the binding too but those are watching TV in the evenings projects. Just waiting for the fabric to start some block making.

Thank you. It really turned out better than I expected. Hav4boys, even just one square or 4 triangles if it fits in your plan. If not, white with the focus fabric is fine.

Jaba, I have one to bind this evening, I listen to an audio book usually. I just finished the paper doll quilt, now waiting on the birthday party # four. She told me she’s been waiting a long time to be 4!

I took all the baggies out and planted seeds of design in my mind, now to get started!

anyone that is looking for ideas on what fabrics I hope to get for my blocks, here are some ideas - pretty much anything that is does not "read" as a neutral, including greys and blacks. I'm fine with cordination or contrasting colors.

https://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c...pso8n9xltp.jpg

this quilt shows what I'm hoping for - colorful blocks that will be offset with a neutral sashing.

Block Biz...basics

At the beginning of every swap, I always drill a few items so I might as well start now.

Your block should measure 12 1/2 inches square.

Be cautious when cutting F8s. Often, the cut placement matters in f8s.

Please use a substantial portion of a person's F8. Please make the owner's fabric stand out. It is the focus of your block.

If a block is new to you, please make a sample from your own fabric first, measuring as you go to make sure the block will work before using another person's fabric. (Save those sample blocks and make yourself another quilt!)

Measure, measure, measure to catch a goof early so it's easily fixable.

Use sewing thread that blends.

And finally, this is not a race! Please take the time you need to make your blocks the best they can be!

Thank you!

Mona G 08-06-2019 06:19 PM

Got my fabric today, count is good.

Janice McC 08-06-2019 06:58 PM

FYI, I've just reopened the gallery pages for Boom 20, both groups, as well as Boom 23 Early Birds. I've begun collecting blocks from your pix but please always give me a couple of days to get them in the gallery. This is where the bulk of my time will go for the next few weeks, and I can only sit at my computer for a limited time before going stir crazy. You will all help me immensely by having all pix at 200 kb or smaller. Those that aren't will be the absolute last I add, when I've got nothing else left in life to do. Thanks!

Good news, Mona G. :)
