mjpEncinitas I am so happy to hear about your grandbabies. It is always good to bring them home.

Squeezed in a enough time to sew one block today. Jayne hope you like your block

Janice McC 07-01-2021 02:22 AM

Good morning, zinnias. I’ve started dismantling my sewing room. It’s getting new flooring soon. Sad to pack it up as I won’t be sewing again for a couple of months I guess. Oh, well, I’ll just have to live vicariously through you all! Speaking of that, Terriamn, lovely block for JayneW. Look at all those fine points!

Have a fine day. The long Independence Day weekend is coming!

Stcpawz, I really like your block for Klaws. It looks so much like a waving flag! Congrats on your first block. Feel free to pop in here and say hello!

stcpaws, thank you so much for my wonky flag block. I love it!!!
mjp it's so wonderful to hear that your grandbabies are going home.
Wonderful blocks that have been shown so far.
Now that my niece's quilt is back from the LQS longarm, I will be spending time binding it. When that is finished, I will start back on my blocks for here.

Tuesday 6 of our friends drove an hour to the house arriving at 6:30 AM. Almost everything has been removed. What sewing stuff That was still there hubby told everyone to leave it that I wanted to take care of it. Imagine my surprise when I found the two largest cutting mats rolled up tight in one of the trailers. They were rescued and are ok but even if they were ruined it would have been worth while. We were se appreciate of them spending the day helping us out.

Finished 2 more blocks and have 2 to go. Had to clean up the area and put sewing machine away, having 3 couples over for dinner tonight.

Sewbiz I know you don’t like starch but I had a devil of a time trying to match up seams and finally had to spray your block. second block is for Kristie

sewbizgirl 07-01-2021 11:22 AM

Cool block, Terri, thank you! Don’t worry about the starch…. I don’t care for using it but I have no problem if others do!

sewbizgirl 07-01-2021 11:25 AM

Lovely block for Bibliostone, Julia!

Hello Zinnias!

Sewbiz finished up her blocks and I'm just getting started! I'll be the late comer to this party! First out of the chute is Terriamn! Speaking of which, I love the block you made for me! Thanks!

MJP, YAY for the twins coming home and thank you for the block. I'll be in Encinitas the end of July... maybe lunch?

kristijoy 07-01-2021 04:14 PM

HI everyone! The blocks I'm seeing are just beautiful! I finished up one more a couple days ago...but haven't had time to take a photo. I have 3 more to go (1 cut out). My husband is having time with our son on Sunday so I'll have time to sew by myself. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I've been working hard on homeschool prep so we can start at the beginning of August! Whew! We started Chemistry early (so we can travel this fall without our chemistry lab) and so far it is going well. It's been really good for my son to experience the amount of work required for a high school course (with only 1 course to do for a few months). He's broken some ground in 'doing homework' before fun and keeping a positive attitude when something challenging comes up! He even just rolled with it when he totally messed up the lab on Monday and we had to schedule a time to re-do it next week. One mess up turned into a positive learning experience quickly is a success in my book!

ibex94 07-01-2021 05:12 PM

Jayne, I haven't started piecing yet. A couple things are cut out and lots of plans in place but I fear I will be the last one to get everything done if the end of the summer is anything like the beginning has been. Your first block is lovely! Let's see what I can do to keep up.

I am heading out of town for the fourth of july holiday with blocks to sew and QAYG blocks. My first english paper piecing project is one of the blocks. If it works, one of you will be getting an amazing block that I found a pattern for and I have fussy cut out. Happy holidays everyone!! I'll see you again Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks for my lovely blocks ladies. I have two more finished and then probably won't sew again until after the 4th. The first block is for Annt59 and is called Fall Fancy. The second is for JayneW and is a Friendship Star Variation.

stcpawz 07-02-2021 03:38 PM

My first post!

Hello Zinnias!

My name is Sara, and I'm a newcomer to this boom (actually any boom!). My friend and mentor, Mary Jo, introduced quilting to me when I asked her about making a t-shirt quilt for my oldest daughter. She offered to teach me how to do it! So that was my first project, and introduction to quilting!

I'd like to offer my apologies for my slow start participating in this boom, as I've been dealing with a very unexpected health problem since mid May. It has finally been diagnosed as vestibular neuritis, an inflammation of a nerve which caused me to have balance/dizzy issues. I had side effects from being on prednisone, but prednisone did help with the inflammation. My neurologist thinks there is some nerve damage; I will be starting vestibular PT hopefully soon and will get my old life back!

Back to quilting: Thank you for the beautiful and creative blocks you've made! So many talented quilters, I am in awe! I finally completed 3 blocks, one of which my Mary Jo has posted. I made 2 more and hope to complete some more before the end of the month (doing a home remodel project also....but keeping my sewing machine accessible:). Sorry mine are so simple! Hmm, will now try to figure out how to post them...

Thanks again ladies and have a happy 4th of July!

-Sara

sewbizgirl 07-02-2021 05:16 PM

Nice to hear from you, Sara! Hope you can get rid of the vestibular neuritis.

Mary Jo is a good quilter and will make a great 'partner in crime' for you! Wish I had a sewing buddy close by.

Happy 4th of July to you too! Bonnie

sewbizgirl 07-02-2021 05:17 PM

Bibliostone and Jayne, those are beautiful blocks you have made. Hope I didn't miss anyone else's block, to comment on it.

All the blocks are so pretty. We are really out-doing ourselves this time around!

annt59 07-02-2021 10:28 PM

bibliostone, thank you for my pretty block. Looking forward to my autumn quilt.

terriamn 07-03-2021 04:51 AM

Jane thank you for my beautiful block, love the movement

Biblistone 2 more great blocks

Welcome Sara, hope you are feeling better quickly

Everyone have a great 4 th of July weekend

Janice McC 07-03-2021 09:07 AM

Good day, zinnias. I’ve had trouble logging on today. Anyone else experience that as well? Anyway, I’m thrilled to see all your wonderful blocks. Now that I’m out of sewing commission, I’ll appreciate them, and you, all the more.

Sara, I’m sad to hear that you’re having health problems. It seems like each round we have one or two boomers who have had an illness or an accident. I hope you will have a swift recovery so that you can return to life as normal.

Hope you all have a safe and happy Independence Day!

juliasb 07-03-2021 09:38 AM

Yes, I had a problem logging on. Got an error message but now am on and glad to be in this part of the board.

Sara, Glad to hear the dr. had identified your health problem and can not work on treating it. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I just finished my last block. I managed to get them done much quicker than I thought. My sister is spending the majority of her time at mom's bedside and I am there 2-3x a week right now and come in if there is a major concern. This made it great for sewing to keep my mind off things there. We also had a double death in our extended family last night. Unexpected and tragic. My cousin and her husband succumbed to carbon monoxide poising in their sleep. It has all of us spinning. Still so many questions but all in God's hands. She was a fantastic quilter too and a great crafter.
I will get my blocks out in the mail Monday or Tuesday so they will get off to you Janice as soon as I can.

Janice McC 07-03-2021 09:43 AM

Julia, you have my condolences on the tragic loss of your cousin and her DH. Such a sad situation. It sounds like you and your sister are helping to make your mother as comfortable as you can. Not everyone is lucky enough to have family who can help as you both are. <3

sewbizgirl 07-04-2021 05:34 AM

Thanks Janice! Happy Independence Day to All from me, as well!

Julia, so sorry to hear of the tragedy in your family. Big hugs, sent to you and your family!

terriamn 07-04-2021 06:41 AM

Happy 4 th of July to everyone, hope you can spend some time outdoors.

Julia sending my condolences, what a tragedy.

kristijoy 07-04-2021 09:45 AM

Oh Julia, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin and husband. What a challenging time.

Sounds like you've worked out a good situation for you with your sister and Mom. I'm glad sewing is therapeutic.

Lots of hugs coming your way. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

kristijoy 07-04-2021 09:46 AM

The guys went off on a Dad & Son adventure to the game store today...so I have about 5-6 hours to myself. My mission is to finish the last 3 blocks. I have one cut out already...so here I go!

Janice McC 07-04-2021 10:53 AM

Enjoy your “me” time!

Here's my Last 4!

2 for Julia, 1 for Nelco and 1 for stcpawz

Janice - I'm leaving for my Mom's a week from today...I'm planning on packaging everything up and sending it before I go.

Janice McC 07-04-2021 03:05 PM

Lovely blocks! Please try to arrange shipping so that they arrive during the week rather than on the weekend, if possible. Thank you.

Great blocks, Kristi. Love the patterns you chose an the prints you pulled to go with the main fabrics. Great finish!

terriamn 07-05-2021 04:44 PM

Kristie great finish and glad you had some enjoyable “me” time

We spent today at home painting and removing and replacing ceiling fans. I had planned to paint my porch floor today but with the temp at 99 put it off till tomorrow morning. That will be the first task in the morning. We plan on going to the house tomorrow, Wednesday and hope to finish everything Thursday. Friday we have an appointment to see a house in the exact area we would love to live in. They will review al offers on the 14. Nerve wracking

Janice McC 07-06-2021 04:12 AM

Terriamn, I hope you get the house if you want it. It is difficult to wait for that phone call. Good luck with the painting. Hope the weather isn’t unbearable when you do the porch.

I finally finished my great niece's quilt. I thought y'all would like to see some pictures. I will be giving it to her at her graduation party this Sunday. She will be attending Lake Forest College near Chicago in the fall. The school colors are red and black and she will be on the women's tennis team. Although you won't be able to see the actual quilting, it is quilted with a tennis racket and ball pattern. The last picture shows a partial front and back of the quilt.

Janice McC 07-06-2021 07:13 AM

I can make out some of the quilting in the second pic. It’s terrific! Your great niece will love it. Congratulations on a fine finish. :)

Great quilt, Klaws! That tennis racket fabric is so cute. So is the quilting. Very special.

Oh thanks! Glad you mentioned it....It takes 2 days right? If I send Wednesday....would that get there Friday? I could also pack it up and put it in the mailbox on Sunday on my way out the door then it would be there midweek next week. That might be the better choice.

Janice McC 07-06-2021 04:16 PM

Kristijoy, packages are taking three and four days. Maybe send on Friday or Saturday. There’s a better chance it will arrive mid-week. Thanks!

Janice McC 07-07-2021 04:20 AM

Good morning. It’s been quiet the last couple of days here. Is everyone recuperating from a fabulous Independence Day? :)

Well, things are moving fast here re: the move. Moving company estimates on Friday, new flooring and painting due to start in a couple of weeks, I’m packing boxes and selling furniture. DH sold our small boat. Good grief, there’s hardly time to miss quilting. New house closes in a couple of weeks and it seems we will be moving prior to the end of the swap, probably early August. I’ll let you all know in plenty of time when to switch addresses but for the next few weeks, packages will still be sent to GA.

Hope you all have a pleasant day. Happy piecing and quilting!

sewbizgirl 07-07-2021 05:44 AM

Good luck, Janice!

Great! Friday is perfect! I have a trip to town for my son's eye appointment, so we can swing by the post-office. I was folding this morning getting them all packed up. My design wall looks empty now!

Other than the BOOM I haven't done much sewing in the past few weeks. We leave for my Mom & Dad's on Sunday. They have a home on the Washington Coast where is cool! We escape there for several weeks every summer to get out of the California heat. Last year, of course, was the exception. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/tongue.png We'll be gone atleast 3 weeks!

When we were in the RV at the Redwoods, I purchases a small basket weaving kit at the visitors center. It was super fun to sit outside at the RV park in my chair and weave. So I started thinking of other hand-things I could do while we were one the road. I decided to pick up a few crochet projects. Yarn is easy to stuff in a bag and crochet is nice and repetitive which makes it a great thing to do with your hands while you are just enjoying hanging outside. I started with some scrunchies and a small hand-bag. I found a poncho pattern which will take longer for our southwest trip this fall. That will be fun to work on in various beautiful places! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Good luck on your move Janice. My sister just announced she and her husband are moving too! They will be empty nesters in another year and are ready for their next phase in life!
