Bibliostone, love the new blocks and the fussy cutting for Marcialee’s.

Bstone love your blocks the basket fabric is great with Sewbiz’s fabric

Sewbiz so excited for you and time will go by slow then all of a sudden it will be right around the corner.

We ordered our furniture for the lower level and totally lucked out, they already had 2 sets on order and one set will be here in time to be delivered the day after our closing. Still looking for master bedroom furniture. I thought furniture shopping would be fun but it was so overwhelming

That’s awesome Sewbiz! I’m happy for you. Are you moving there permanently?

Don't know, at this point. We aren't selling the house in Mississippi, three and a half hours away. I will go back and forth but would like to spend most of my time in Memphis. Hubby will stay mostly in MS, and hold down the fort.

Bibliostone, I LOVE my block with the basket-like print. So perfect for my fruit! Thank you.

Congratulations on the house SBG.

We will be headed to Arkansas in August to look for a home. I want to retire in two years and California has priced us out for retirement.

I love all my blocks. Love logging in to see what everyone has done. Beautiful blocks!

I thought it might be time to show you all what I have been working on. Paper piecing is a very interesting task. The side benefit is lots of crumbs but boy does it use up fabric. So a pattern that I liked is called Indian Summer. The first one I made I did not bother to check if the one inch block was truly one inch. As a result, the Indian Summer block I made for Terriamn was a bit shy of 12.5" so it got a frame. The other thing that particular pattern told me was that a fat eighth is not enough fabric to use as the background for the star.

So I tried it again and made sure that my one inch block on the pattern really was one inch and tried a block for Hav4Boys. It worked but I really wanted her fabric for the background. Sorry for all the pink (for a family with lots of boys). But it really went well with the green and it made your flowers pop! I'm working on other paper piecing projects, too. My crumb pile is huge.

Another block I worked on is a favorite of mine. (The block looks wonky but that is just cause it wasn't flat when I took the picture.) I was thinking that an attic window type pattern or dewey's library would have been good for this directional fabric but decided to try the optical illusion square called Berry Patch Plaid. The illusion of weaving isn't as strong as I was hoping but it is the first time I have tried this block with such a complex core fabric so now we all know.

I am still working on an English Paper Piecing block. It is a perfect selection but a totally new technique for me. I started it July 4 weekend and here it is almost August and it still isn't done, lol. The lighting in my house isn't good enough to do that hand stitching for long periods of time. And I have very few long blocks of unencumbered time. Thank goodness I am not buying a house or moving around the country like so many of you are having to do.

Back to my sewing room with the Olympics on in the background I go. I hope to be back online to share with you all before too much longer. Everyone knows I have a deadline and they are trying hard to stay out of my way. Happy Wednesday everyone!

This last week has been strange Saturday afternoon we were hit all around us by a tornado. Our home was fortunate and had no damage while neighbors across the street and in back of us were not as fortunate. We were lucky to only be without power for 3.5 days. Insurance adjusters have been out to see neighbors and the sound of chainsaws are still being heard. It is sad to see some mature and very large trees uprooted or spilt in half. One tree was hit and then went with a domino effect for another 6 trees across the street. The great news is no one was hurt. We were at the end of the tornado and suffered far less than those further west of us. Businesses and homes were either severely damaged or just gone. We still have a good deal of clean up to do. My neighbors have been great.
We also are blessed to have a small generator that was a great help for the fridge and freezers. We even had a bit of over the air TV to get through the 3 days. No air and that was a challenge because of the 90 degree weather. None of this is important as I said before no one was hurt and that is the all important thing. I didn't get anything cut or no sewing to say the least.
