OMG! NOT YOU TOO! My SIL tells everyone I am God's older sister, that I walked to school with my pteradactlyl in tow, that my brain cells are older than dirt .... glad I don't have to live with that boy!

Gotta admit, his only redeeming quality (well, one of) is that he created my two adorable grandsons with my DD#1.

And life goes on ....

Just remember ... "oldies" are "GOODIES" we may be old, but man are we good ;)

LovingIzabella 08-12-2010 04:56 AM

Oh I love my oldies-I am one too :-)
No the labels are just a fringe benefit and you do not have to use them-I just tried to make it as easy as possible so hands didn't cramp writing out so many envelopes :-)

reneebobby, just how polish are you? I'm 1/2, so there are definitely days when I can feel your pain! Seriously, I live in an area of Michigan with one of the largest polish populations outside the metro Detroit area ... in the spring, we've been known to put sap buckets on the telephone poles instead of the maple trees!

Robin & April, you're right. Just 'cuz I'm old doesn't mean I'm not "good" ... I keep telling my husband that he's got it pretty good to be married to me ... no one else would have put up with his nonsense for this long. I've EARNED every single one of these gray hairs on my head, and most of them are named Randy, Ashleigh, Rayechel and Caitlyn! HA!

Wedding cake Saturday, so my F8's won't be going out until next week. Have to press, cut, and package first. Won't even consider playing in my fabric stash until after I'm done getting all greased up with butter, eggs, and sugar! Anyone wanna come and sweat with me? The oven's on every night until Friday!

Extra! Extra!
My F8 are in the mail box this morning!
I am very exited.
Just out of curiosity; how much $ you put on the stamps? I went to the post office and I was told to use $0.64 to ensure handled manually and not through the machine, so I did and I wrote on teh envelopes NON-MACH as I was advised.
Hope they arrive in one piece!!

I just did normal and not the hand stamp didn't have problems last time so did the same again.

Odessa, oh man that's alot of cake. hahha As for polish, about 1/2 but through in soulivian, solvack. (SP) and heck I might as well be all polish for that matter. hahaha

missgigglewings 08-12-2010 05:49 AM

I am trying to mail merge but the first step is to type in the name and everything I type in says it can't be used. So I am going to dust off my pen and get busy! I am too frustrated already with mail merge.

OdessaQuilts 08-12-2010 05:51 AM

reneebobby, I'm 1/2 on Mom's side ... she's about 95% with a tad of Russian tossed in somewhere in the background, I guess. But since I was adopted I grew up in a house where we didn't do anything Polish, necessarily. Funny thing, my husband who is mostly German descent makes wonderful Pieroghi, and I love to make Greek Baklava and French pastries when I get the opportunity. So we're a pretty international house!

And, no, this time it's not a whole lot of cake, only about 200 servings. Will actually finish baking tonight if all goes well. Baked the 2nd largest tier last night plus a birthday cake for Sat. Tonight I will bake the largest tier (16" x 2 layers), plus the 6" top tier (both Fudge chocolate chunk cake) and a 9" banana tier, then be done. Tomorrow I will frost and decorate, and deliver Sat. some time.

My house usually smells good when I'm in "pastry mode" ...

No wonder I'm so "fluffy"!

You will have a better chance of them getting there in one piece. I didn't pay the extra 20 cents, I figure I'll send more fabric if they get eatin by the machine. For the block to be sent home I will definately be paying to extra. It is much more work to make another block than to buy more fabric!

moonrise 08-12-2010 05:53 AM

Mine are officially in the hands of the USPS as of 8:30am.

DH took them to the post office to make sure of the postage, and it was $.44 each ($.79 for the one to Canada). :)

CraftsByRobin 08-12-2010 06:45 AM

Odessa - I WOULD LOVE to come ... I'll bring my machine, my current WIP, and help you with this cooking (I'm better at cleaning up ... can't cook ... hubby does it all) ... and then we can QUILT to our hearts content ...

Oh wait ... I have to work :( must earn money to support my habit ... quilting habit that is ;)

R

Robin,

Anyone who cleans up after me is ALWAYS WELCOME in my kitchen! I don't cook (too much standing for my arthritic knees), but I love to bake. I have tons of pans, tools, 2 different mixers, bowls, sifters, 4 different sets of measuring spoons, 3 or 4 sets of measuring cups, plus I don't know how many liquid measuring cups ... you get the picture! I do know how to make a mess!

So, I'll bake, you clean up, we'll nosh on some yummies and then we can quilt together.

Oh, yeah, that money thing .......... hmmmmmmmm ....... [scratches butt, contemplating how to get more money for quilting habit] ......... we could sell cakes cookies and pastries and then use the $$ for quilt supplies!

Yay!

So, when are you moving to Michigan????

CraftsByRobin 08-12-2010 08:18 AM

Odessa - last time I was in Michigan was probably in 1999! I loved the area I went to visit ... Petoskey (sp?) area ... been there three times since 1997 ... I met a couple of folks on the internet from that area and went up for a visit ... it is beautiful!!! I also went to Mackinaw Island ...

Flew into Traverse City each time (cheapest flights) ... but I'm not sure I could handle Michigan winters ... other than that ... I'd move in a heart beat :D

Maybe when I retire? :D

Robin

knlsmith 08-12-2010 08:25 AM

What kind of envelope should I use? Can I use the regular 9in with the security printing in them? Or do I need something else?

OdessaQuilts 08-12-2010 10:07 AM

Robin, are you retiring next week? You know, you're not that far from where I am (near the innermost point of the Saginaw Bay), so don't be thinking that my winters are rough! Petoskey and Traverse City get it much worse than we do (it's that "lake effect" thing). So you could handle it.

How does next Thursday sound to you????

knlsmith, I use a regular business-size envelope to send my F8's. Fold them so they are close to the size of the envie so you pass through the 1/4" thickness tester at the PO. For the blocks to be returned, I use a 6"x9" craft envelope (dark yellow color). Again, fold to fit envie. The flatter it is, the better it goes through the system.....go ahead, ask me how I know! ;)

How bout ya'll both split the difference and move down here to arkansas, then i can help you taste test all the baked goods! Winters are very mild here... Summers are a bit warm, was 108 with heat index of 120 last week. Should I send ya'll a copy of the paper so you can look for houses when I send the fabric?

missgigglewings 08-12-2010 10:16 AM

I was just in Petosky and Traverse City on my last Pfizer trip! I loved it so much I brought home a real estate listing book! My friend (R, W, & B quilt on another tread) took me the UP and I met a lot of nice Yoopers! Small world! Would move up there in an instant if it weren't for my Texas Grandangel!

Ok Darla 08-12-2010 10:48 AM

I'm the one Canadian :) My packages went out this morning to everyone. Post Office guy was very curious as to what was in all the envelopes and why. If I explained it to him, it would just take too long so I told him samples of fabric. He just nodded like I was crazy. Too funny!

kwiltkrazy 08-12-2010 10:52 AM

You all should try the west, Oregon coast to be exact, it's a nice 76 with a slight breeze, winters are semi-mild, hardly ever get snow, and you have to like the rain. But, my husband was told it only rained at night, by the tourist bureau. Boy, did she tell whopper.

CraftsByRobin 08-12-2010 10:57 AM

Odessa - I sure wish!!! Maybe after hubby is out of nursing school (about 2 yrs) I'll see what I can do about checking out the area and moving :D

Too far, too hot! It's been in the 90's here, with high humidity. Even being near the water hasn't helped this summer, but I just keep reminding myself, we don't generally get all this heat and humidity for such a long stretch in the summer. Usually our winters aren't too awfully bad, maybe 10-14 days of REALLY cold weather (15 degrees or below), and not too much snow all season, just in spurts. It's going to cool down soon, I'm sure!

But thanks for the offer anyway..... you can always come up to see us in the spring and fall .... it's pleasant here at those times! I'll bake you something!

We've got hospitals and nursing homes here, Robin! And schools and daycare centers that need nurses, too. We'll find him a job!

I just got back from mailing mine off. I didn't want to try to explain a Boomerang swap either. Soooo....I told her they were quilt blocks. She said if you kept them and sewed them together you would have a nice size quilt. I said I sure would!

Well, April, tonight I am baking Fudge Chocolate Chunk cake. Tomorrow afternoon I will bake banana cake. Anyone wanna come lick the beaters????

wendsy 08-12-2010 02:29 PM

Mine went out today. No questions from the mailman-they see me quite often, I'm part of an on-line book swap and DVD swap so I bring in packages regularly. I did tell him it was something different then handed him the envelopes. I used the 6x9 envelopes with the clasps-because of the clasp they went no machine sorting so hopefully they'll all arrive in good shape. I am thinking of looking into the white 6x9-catalog envelopes, no clasps so no extra charge for hand sorting. My postman pointed out that the clasps-whether on the inside (under the flap) or closing the envelope it makes the envelope too thick. It ended up being around $.81 each, $1.20 to Canada-not too bad.
Can't wait to see what everyone's sending out!

wendsy 08-12-2010 02:35 PM

All these baking ideas makes me think I should bake-made a hummingbird cake (banana and pineapple) last week. I'll probably break out the cocoa for some never fail brownies and ice cream!

shaysmema 08-12-2010 02:39 PM

That hummingbird cake sounds good. Send me a piece.

dawson.tracy35 08-12-2010 02:42 PM

10-15 below?? Ohhh makes me shiver just thinking about it! The lowest I have seen it here is right around 10 - 15 above zero! I have been up that way and it is so beautiful up there! My husband drives a truck over the road and I road with him for about 6 months (july-january) and omg I saw some really cold stuff! Heck we were broke down in Idaho on the side of a mountain in -23 degrees 90 miles from anywhere and no cell signal. 9 foot of snow and more falling! It was frightening for me! He is used to it, just another day at the office! He works for a company out of Minnesota so he is used to the snow and stuff. LOL i was there in december and they still had not gotten any snow and i was griping. I wanted to see snow! Then I saw enough and wanted to come home! A few weeks later we got a freak snow storm and got about 12 inches at home!
Gosh, I think I have been a stay at home mom with no outside contact for too long, I am just typing up a storm! It is awesome to be making friends!! You guys are all so great!
