Yeah! I can't wait to get it! I am going to work on yours tonight, I had so much fun matchin yours up, since I have it in my stash! I have to run, got a lot to do before I meet with my newest customer and, her friend who I met right here on the Quilting Board. I am making a memory keepsake quilt for her. I have to think of something really special to do for her friend who got us together...finders fee :-) = Quilt block or fabric???

I made it to the post office today and mailed a f8 to everyone. I thought it might be expensive, as I have not mailed things internationally lately, and the rates seem to rise daily. But it was not. Anyway, you all can be expecting to see some 'spring' coming your way.

BTW, I did not realize until addressing the envelopes that we are such a wide-flung group. Wonderful! I look forward to seeing what blocks we all choose for each other.

I love spring, can't wait to get your f8. I had never mailed international and was really worried about the rates myself, but it only cost me $8.04 to mail all 15 of mine out. Not bad I thought.

I started to look at patterns last night and some are 9", 10", etc. I've never done a block that I had to send to someone else, so now it matters. For my own sizes I didn't really care as long as they are more or less came squared out in the end same sizes.
I thought it would be easy, but now I realize I will need to go through alot of 'mock ups' to get the sizing down right. Since I want to experiment learning new blocks.

It can be quite difficult to change pattern pieces to make a different size block. It is by far the easiest to use a pattern that will make a finished 12" block and so when you get it sewed , it will actually measure 12 1/2". If it seems a bit overwhelming to match points, there are lots of gorgeous blocks that do not have triangles in them! I hope you find what you need and have an enjoyable time!!

Am sending mine out next week due to work commitments so you may get your completed block back with my fabric .

Wow-already?? It must have been flown over to you express!! Looking forward to receiving yours soon.

When I first started doing swaps years ago I made 8",9"&10" patterns and then put a border around them so I could trim them to the correct size.
Paper piecing is my favorite method right now and it's very easy to come out the the correct size if your 1/4" seams are right on target.

sewhappy30 10-04-2011 10:45 AM

Just finished my second block...jillnjo it's headed your way tomorrow. Now to check my mailbox, the mailman should have ran by now, hope I get lots of f8's today.

babeyruth 10-04-2011 11:20 AM

Great reminder, thank Shelley!

I received F8 today from Susan and sewhappy30! I got the rest of my international F8th's out today, I am keeping the receipt for next time, so I know how much stamp to put on without having to go inside the office!

sewhappy30 10-04-2011 12:45 PM

No f8's today in my mailbox. I'll just have to work on some other ufo's I've got.

My problem is now making sure it is 12 1/2 after it is finished. My seams are really good so I think some of the pattern pieces aren't exactlly the right size so do the test and measure the one inch square. That is what helped me the most.

Hi,
about your question about the 12 1/2" block. one thing you will find with most blocks, to get that in order to get that size, you will need to make it a "scant" quarter inch. Not an eighth inch, but a scant quarter inch.

This is especially true with a block with a lot of pieces, seems to need more like that.

The Quilter's cache has lot's of 12 1/2" blocks free to pick from. They have all sizes, just go to the 12" 'finished' size.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I mailed my international ones today, as well as the first two blocks I finished. It was so fun finding fabric to match those I received.

I finished my second block today for sewhappy30--it's heading your way!! Hope you like it; I had fun making it today.

I've started jillnjo's block, too. Sadly, I didn't receive any new F8's today :(.

sewhappy30 10-04-2011 05:25 PM

yayaquilts I can't wait to see it. I never received any f8's today either, maybe tomorrow. Thanks

I just got home! I never made it to the PO, but I am sure it will be full of great things in the morning.

Today I met with a new customer, one I met through this site. I am so excited to be making 4 memory lap quilts for a wonderful sweet lady who lost her mother this year. For Christmas she is having me make a keepsake quilt for each of her siblings, I will have a busy holiday season, and that is wonderful! It is really a wonderful thing to give someone a little comfort.

It got cold here in SoCal today, fall is really in the air, I just hope the snow stays away for a little longer!

LovingIzabella 10-05-2011 03:20 AM

Sorry I have been quiet I was in the ER on Monday and have been home since trying to get my eyes functioning right along with my head to stop feeling like someone has it in the largest vice grip in the world! Has been a rough time but I just wanted to let you know I am here and alive just can't be at the computer long.
You are moving right along!
Hugs
April

jillnjo 10-05-2011 03:47 AM

April; I am thinking of you and pray that you are feeling better as the day goes on! Take good care of yourself, please!

Gena; I am putting your block in the mail today! And can't wait to see mine from you!

No new blocks came yesterday-maybe today?

This is really fun, isn't it?

Mary; you are doing a very nice thing by making those keepsake quilts for others. I have bits and pieces of my mothers wedding dress and my dad's suit, some of us children's baby outfits, dad's shirts, ect. I keep thinking I ought to make a small memory quilt for my Mom( and ultimately ME). She will be 90 Oct. 28 and lives alone. She taught me to sew and quilt. I am so blessed!

sewhappy30 10-05-2011 04:06 AM

2 blocks going in the mail today, jillnjo and marytoddliz that's all I have so far hoping to get more f8's today. Can't wait to see my blocks that are headed back my way.

Yes this is so much fun. I love it already and I've only made 2 blocks.
Off to work now. No sewing today.

Roseysue 10-05-2011 04:39 AM

I have four blocks cut out and all that is left is to sew and send to their mothers. The fabric I'm geting to work with is awesome - this is showing itself to be a great swap!

Also, sorry To hear tha you have been in the ER. I don't know how you do it. You must know how we love you and pray for dulling the pain so that you can feel like yourself.

Thanks for making this swap happen, it is the BEST swap ever!!!!

Quilt Mom 10-05-2011 05:16 AM

April, thinking of you - I can't imagine the problems you are having, but pray that they will abate soon.

Received F8's from Roseysue, Jillnjo, and Sewhappy30 on Oct 3 sorry its so late getting this out. I'm new to the group and I'm still learning how to post what and where to post to the group.

Hi, Well I didn't receive any F8's yesterday's mail but I got one today from Rosebud. I mailed all my F8's out yesterday (10-4). Everybody I think got a different piece of material. I' just going to make a very scrappy quilt when I get my blocks back so do whatever you think is good with the material.

I have decided that since I didn't want to mess up your material while making the blocks I thought I would make a block for myself using Halloween material (why I didn't send that I don't know I changed my mind about what to send at least 3 times if not more). I figure this way I can practice making the block before usng your material. I'll take pictures of both quilts when I finish them next year after the swap is finished.

Great idea to be making blocks to keep out of other fabric as well as making the blocks for others. Think I will do that!

Sew happy someone finally got my fabric!!
