Wow! It sure is a small world. We moved here for the first time in 2002. We stayed for a few years, went back to California for almost 2 years, then came back about 5 years ago. You wouldn't even recognize it! This town has really grown up over the last 10 years. I think the population is closing in on 70,000 now.

I feel like I am late to the party. You ladies are all here and ready to go. I am afraid I don't even have fabric picked out yet. Hopefully I can get it mailed this weekend.

Jennifer22206 09-29-2011 08:41 PM

I didn't realize that I missed making 15 siggy blocks (making 70 takes a lot of counting, and im apparently math challenged!) So I'll make them tomorrow and all will go out Saturday. Deltadawn- yours is going out tomorrow, and one other, I forgot who offhand.

And Moonrise I'm so tempted with your fabric. Its gorgeous.

I can't wait to see the lovely fabric I'll be receiving

fabric_fancy 09-30-2011 12:50 AM

moonrise

i love your fabric

alikat110 09-30-2011 12:59 AM

How do you decide what fabric to send out???? Does every one get same, or do you send out from same line, or vary yours????

i have a bunch of 30s/feedsack fabrics that i've been collecting and haven't decided what to do with them so this is the perfect situation to put them to use.

i'm sending out a different print to everyone so its going to be a true scrappy quilt and i'd like a true white fabric to be used as the background so the white will be the fabric to tie it all together.

Here is the group of fabrics I am sending out to everyone in the group.

Jennifer22206 09-30-2011 05:23 AM

What pretty fabrics!

Deltadawn and babyofire- f8s are on their way to you! Rest of the group are going in the mail on Saturday!! I'm so excited.

Fabric-fancy I love the idea of 30's prints unified by white. Already gave me an idea for yours.

fromzstore 09-30-2011 05:45 AM

all f 8 are out for both groups was surprised when went to po that they went for a regular stamp i ironed them really flat this time and wrapped them in cling wrap because last time it cost 61 cents to mail each one this may help others who have not mailed them yet to iron flat.

Here's what I will be sending out.

Some will get the stars fabric (I used it in Boomerang 5.0East and got back some terrific looking blocks) Our son is currently deployed to Iraq and I would like to make a couple quilts for our Family Readiness Group's December get together. Patriotic is the theme for that fabric.

Others will get the green floral. I will ask for no wild/clashing prints be used but rather to just use the colors within the fabric. I'm going for a subdued look this time.

I'll have a note inside the F8 also explaining the plans for the blocks and color requests.

I do have cats at home so you might see some stray hairs where they insist they know how to pack better than I do. No smokers here or allergies so feel free to starch away while making your blocks for me.

paintmejudy 09-30-2011 07:29 AM

Alikat -- make sure you put that in a note when you mail out the F8 - hard to remember when all that fabric comes rolling in if there aren't suggestions included with the fabric. Last boom one of the groups I sent out a solid brown Kona cotton -- asked for blue, blue green and turquoise. Quilt turned out fabulous - they are posted in boom 5. The brown pulled all those colors together, and I loved the effect. Also last time, someone sent out about 8 different brightly colored and patterned fabrics for a really eclectic look to her quilt.
But it is certainly your choice. Take a look back at the end of boom 5 and look at some of the collections.

For me I go with a theme I want. I love coffee, so I used that fabric for some. My DD wants an Elmo quilt, so I'm using that as one focus fabric. And DH thought a rainbow quilt would be really nice in our room so that's why I sent a white F8 to this group. (With instructions of course! !)

I typically don't buy collections of fabric I just go with what I like.

wendsy 09-30-2011 11:09 AM

Fingers crossed, I'll be sending the F8s out in tomorrow's mail-if not it'll be after the 11th, so my goal is tomorrow! Can't wait to see what your fabric-my fingers are already itching!

Aully 09-30-2011 01:49 PM

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you don't have enough of one fabric and don't want to buy more fabric, then pick two or three, etc. from your stash.

Hope that helps,
rosey sue

Thanks so much for the labels heyjami, what a timesaver.

As we all want - the sooner the better!

moonrise 09-30-2011 02:05 PM

I was able to con ... er ... convince DH to go to the post office this morning instead of tomorrow morning, so all my F8's have been mailed.

I already had some $.64 stamps onhand so I used them for most of the envelopes, until I ran out. The post office said $.44 would have been enough (figures! LOL!) so that's what they put on the remaining envelopes. The F8's were in business-sized envelopes and were squooshed down flat using Glad Press-n-Seal. The receipt says they were .90 ounces. Canada was $.80, and Australia was $.98. :)

30g is just over 1oz.

Roseysue 09-30-2011 02:23 PM

All my Winter F8's are in the mail today, except the ones going to a foreign country. I have to figure out the postage for them.

Also, want to let you know, you will be getting Christmas fabric from me including Pointsettias, and red with stars in them. So start feeling festive and singing while you do my block!

Abby's Mom 09-30-2011 03:29 PM

Most of my F8's are in the mail today! I'm looking forward to checking the mail each day!

babyfireo4 09-30-2011 03:55 PM

I hope to have mine in the mail on monday. My FIL was in an accident today and we drove to the accident site to make sure he was ok. (He was hit broadside in his dump truck by a truck that crossed through the median without stopping) He is sore but ok :) Prayers for the two people in the other vehicle though, the husband is pretty bad off and the wife is ok but still worse off than my FIL.

alikat110 09-30-2011 05:39 PM

Thanks everyone for your advise....i will start searching my stash this weekend....probably will send out several different f8's.....

This is my first time on a swap and am so excited to start recieving my surprises. I just hope I make something you all will like.
Thanks to April for doing all this work and for everyone with all the advise. Muchly appreciated.

wendsy 10-01-2011 05:57 AM

Roseysue 10-01-2011 07:40 AM

All my f8's are out today - I figured my International so they are in the mail today. Sounds with these two groups, (Winter and Spring) a lot of people are getting their F8's out really early - the fun begins soon...............

shaysmema 10-01-2011 11:21 AM

Got my first F8 from PokerDiva today, now to get it made and in the mail for Monday.

missgigglewings 10-01-2011 11:32 AM

All F8s were mailed this morning and may I add quilting is not a cheap hobby! Having said that, may I also add it is worth every penny!

Quilt Happy!

PokerDiva 10-01-2011 11:40 AM

agreed.....isn't is so much fun tho

Jennifer22206 10-01-2011 11:52 AM

In all honesty, I probably do spend about $200-400 for a queen quilt top. And this swap (for me anyway) is less than that for 35 blocks and postage.

Peggerss 10-01-2011 11:53 AM

Hi everyone-

My squishies aren't going out until Monday. Best laid plans didn't work out. I received PokerDiva's fabric today and plan on making her block. Love this fabric!! Have a wonderful weekend all of you in the Winter group!!

heyjami 10-01-2011 12:31 PM

All squishies were handed to my wonderful mailman just now...
17 brights, 18 holidays... watch for them! Some were 2 oz but most were under 1. Hope you enjoy them! I included no input or instructions - just enjoy and surprise me with your creativity!

Jennifer22206 10-01-2011 01:38 PM

ohh I'm so excited. Mine are all on their way. :)

My box is empty now - I need some squishies to fill up and work on!

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:28 PM.
