When in short supply try a 4-patch or 9 patch design. You could easily get 4--4.5" blocks out of that material. Pair it with 5 other blocks of different colors and you have a nine-patch-try a shoo-fly design. You have more flexibility with a 4-patch design as each block would be 3.5". Try Arrowhead puzzle on quilterscache.com

I keep coming up short on all the patterns I have selected so I think that I will have to make up my own pattern so that I can make it fit. This one really has me stumped.

Please PM me if I was the one who shorted people's F8s. I don't think so, but would like to know if I did.

I received my first block today from Lestrong. Isn't it beautiful? Thank you!

moonwork I am shooting for four a week. I don't seem to have the energy to do more. I am working on a full quilt with a deadline, four tablerunners, and now a forgotten seasonal thingy for my daughter (how did I blow that one?..memory blip) and only 9 blocks done so far. soon as the runners get out of the house.. these things will be flying home. did them in 6 weeks last time. not so fast this round I am thinking but surely well before the finish timeline. today is slam bam sewing finish work. I am not so much into the finish stuff. Love making blocks! hate quilting quilts. even little ones.

Dear Dad: I loved your picture. I think your absolutely adorable and I could just grab you and take you home! I haven't had a father since I was 18. I think I could use a dose of "dad" time. Please?? Can I adopt you? Sincerely, your not bratty soon to be daughter (You guys tell him and I will get sooo mad at you!).

joanelizbay 02-22-2013 12:40 PM

Brat,
Wow no father since 18, I can't imagine. As much as my father and I bicker when we are together I can't imagine my life without him. My folks will be married 45 years in June. My mother is one of my best friends but my father...just can't imagine it. He has an illness that is very hard on his body. He got sick with a virus in his early 30's that caused him to have to medically retire in his early 50's. I never take for granted a day I spend with either one of them. I won't tell her dad your really a brat...hehehehehe

Elisabrat 02-22-2013 05:14 PM

Nexxus thank you so much for keeping an in-house secret :) Yeah I missed a whole lifetime with him. There are many a silent conversations I have had with him since then. See when I was a tiny one we would take turns sitting on his lap and he would tell us stories. Of Plato, of Socrates, of Helen of Troy.. you know the kind of stories most dads tell their little ones lol. He was a good man. I was fortunate my mom made it til she was 91 yrs old and I only lost her 1.5 yrs ago. She had so much to offer too. I am praying I can live long enough for my grandchildren to remember me too. Just have to get those kids married and popping out babies! (sigh they say not for a few years yet..I hear the clock a ticken')

So today I received a fun block from Roseirish. Fashionista Pumpkin came home. The sunglasses are unreal. I think I know where Anastasia got her creative talent. thank you for creating this little vision. I try not to tell her so she doesnt get a fat head. (the pumpkin not your daughter she deserves hers!) (wait til she hears I said that oh my).

I did not receive a single piece of f8 fabric however and I hadnt been to the postal for five days. For the stragglers where are you? I think you can put them in envelopes anytime and they would be welcomed with big smiles. anytime soon even! yahoo! need music? I can sing and play with the in house mariachi band! I was singing to myself this morning and doing a little morracca? spell check, motion with it all alone while waiting for the net to load. see I am able to multi task! so.. getting ready .. la cucha racha la cucha racha (spell check).. ya no puedo caminar.. la cucha racha (sing along you know you love it!).. see how easy it is to stuff your envelopes? yes it is! RoseIrish can you post on this section your fashionista block for all to see here? It takes a lifetime and four days it seems to get one to load from my house :( Gracias!!!

urgodschild2 02-22-2013 05:16 PM

I got Babyfired's f8 today. It is very pretty material. Wow Jaba.....You want to do some of mine????? LOL.
I am like Elizabrat. I have other things that I am also making at the same time. although I have been trying to do 3 5 a day. Somedays I have other committments but I have been able to keep up with my goal. For this group I have completed 15 blocks so I guess I am doing ok.

Heres a beautiful block from Babyfire! I LOVE it. Sending blocks out Monday to Cuppy and Quiltingmommy. Ive never NOT used a color of some kind in a pattern and it was really hard for me to "see" Cuppys block. Im really interested in seeing what she does with all neutral blocks!! Two more left to finish. Will get them done this weekend because I dont have a vehicle so am stuck at home till Sunday :) 12" of snow and they are talking about rain/sleet/snow on Monday again. Have a great weekend!

urgodschild2 02-22-2013 05:32 PM

Quiltingmommy......thank you for the suggestion. I figured out another block but I am going to remember that for when I get another one.

ok I just received a piece of fabric (not true received it several days ago just checked it now) its small. 10 x 15. please sent the sizes suggested. Its hard to make a block if you dont have enough of what your needing to do it. I am using this one but its not the focal fabric unless its going to be a nine patch. I just want enough fabric to have well a choice in blocks. Am I wrong in asking for this? so ifyou havent cut can you try to stick to the 9 x 22 or 11x18 to ensure a large enough working area for blocks better a bit too much than a little too..little.

Is it a newbie that did this? Maybe it was a mistake, if it was my mother let me know and I will beat her with wet noodles when I see her in a few weeks

Let me know ,if any of you received a shortage of fabric, I can send new piece. I have plenty. It took almost 5 yds, so I bought entire bolt. 3 yds extra. I had some help, not sure how you can get to that size from a bolt, anything is possible.

joanelizbay 02-23-2013 06:26 AM

Ill have last 2 done today then I guess Im done except for the waiting for the 7 I still need and the 20 that will be coming home. You know what I miss more than anything when Im done? The full mailbox of something besides bills! As much as I love the internet I REALLY enjoy getting real mail from friends or family..I love cards and reading notes from friends. People dont really do that personal form of communications much anymore, thats one of the reasons I always sign up for the swap!! :)

Gaijin 02-23-2013 07:00 AM

Joan,
I am glad to hear you finally received my f8! I checked and it went out on February 1st. I just finished your block and will mail it Monday. I will post a photo in my album.

I got almost 12 blocks sewn today but not all in time for the mail pick up - so a bunch will be going out on Monday. If you click on the link below, there are pictures of everything I've made, everything I've received, and a link to my tracking spreadsheet with dates & block names.

I think it's so funny to see some of the blocks that I wanted to make this time around already being made by others. I guess we all went through Quilterscache and the same blocks jumped out at us. I hadn't see the Antique tile block, Quatrefoil or the Dandy before to this swap (or maybe just didn't know the names) and decided I wanted to try using them and voila...several other people are using them too.

Amazing how great minds think a like I guess.

So of course I think all the blocks great :)

Moonwork, I was thinking the same thing! Had never made the Kansas Fortune one before but as soon as I got it in the mail I see where someone else liked it too! LOL...ALL the blocks are beautiful I think. My son looked at 2 different blocks in 2 different colors and loved one of them but not the other that I had made...When I showed him it was the same exact block he couldnt beleive it. Colors make all the difference in the world dont they?

joanelizbay 02-24-2013 10:26 AM

Baby Fire, blocks on the way home to you.

Phannie1 02-24-2013 01:24 PM

MamaHauser, got your block done and it will be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for swapping...
