Quilty-Louise 10-10-2013 07:25 PM

I just finished making the yo-yos and stitching them together to
make 3 more snowmen to go with the one I made several weeks
ago.

I just to "jazz" them up and they will be ready to go.

owlvamp 10-10-2013 09:41 PM

The snowman sounds so cute. I love snowman's ... Willing yo do a side swap with you if you don't get me. PM if you want to.

kiffie2413 10-11-2013 12:57 AM

All the ornaments being discussed sound too cute!
Cherrio, can't wait to see how the needle felting turns out...haven't tried that, yet.
Owl, I have made snowman ornys from yoyos..you just sew them together, then "glam" 'em up...lol.. I also make lil Christmas trees from yoyos..2 types..one I string them with buttons between. The other I stitch them in a tree shape, then decorate them with vintage buttons. Last year I bought some "vintage mini ornament" charms and used them to decorate the trees, topped them with star or angel buttons, sequins, or charms. This swap is so much fun!

owlvamp 10-11-2013 03:46 AM

lynnie 10-11-2013 09:17 AM

the snowmen sound cute, I have lots of snowmen in my house, they're adorable.
can't wait to see the needlefelting. I was hoping by now i'd have my names, but I don't
hope all is ok with our fearless leader. made an additional ornament yesterday. just need my
swappers b4 I finish what I need to do, then off in the mail I go. love everyone's ideas.

Crafty Darlene 10-11-2013 09:43 AM

I'm so impressed with ya'll! I'm just now deciding what I want to make and haven't even started them yet! I've seen so many cute ones, but just love snowmen, any shape or size!

lawsonmugs 10-11-2013 10:46 AM

Brenda are you OK girlfriend?????

lynnie 10-11-2013 11:09 AM

has anyone heard from Brenda, is she o.k.
i'm starting to get worried

grann of 6 10-11-2013 11:12 AM

I was thinking the same thing, Lynnie and Lawsonmugs. I thought we were supposed to get out names on the 10th. Well, maybe if she works, she can't get to it till the weekend. I am working on mine, and really am done, but I just keep making more thinking I will like some better than others. Never know when to quit.

lynnie 10-11-2013 11:17 AM

just left Brenda a msg with our concern for her. I want to know she's o.k.
I worry about people. can't help it, i'll let you know if I hear from her

kiffie2413 10-11-2013 12:39 PM

Hi all,
Putting a copy of the post from the other thread about Texas Pie at the bottom of this post...and Lynnie it's a REAL thing and yummy...No mountain oysters for me...no rattlesnake, no possum, no nothing like that for Kif! Now dh, I am sad to say eats calf fries (aka as mountain oysters...whoever came up with that stupid name, anyway? Not all of us proud Texans agree with some of the crazy names things are known by here...nor do we eat or get anywhere near them! I don't even kiss hubby after he has eaten those nasty things! Matter of fact, I never in 30+ years of marriage cooked them, either...he had to "go home to momma" for those! Geerossss!!! And the "tastes like chicken" thing?? My response is just eat the chicken, then!).
Sorry for the digression...into what kif won't be digestin'....lol to the mini rhyme...um, ahem, okay now..here is the post:

Texas Pie:
Sorry Sunrise, I don't know how I missed your question on Texas Pie..
It starts with a crushed pecan crust, then layer of powdered sugar, cool whip, cream cheese mix, next layer is chocolate pudding, next layer is vanilla pudding, top all with cool whip. Sprinkle with crushed pecans or shaved chocolate. Hide from hubby, and EAT! I am not a big fan of cream cheese, but with it mixed in with powdered sugar and cool whip, and all the other layers it ROCKS!!
I usually use low fat cream cheese and 2% milk in the puddings to try and make it a lil less bad for me and my terrible cholesterol levels (high as 301, a "good" level for me is 230'sh...I can't take statin meds, either). People can't believe my cholesterol is that high, as I am fairly thin. I know that really has nothing to do with it, tho. I have a cousin who was very overweight, she had gastric bypass, lost 120+ pounds..but her cholesterol was always low... I really wish I didn't love breads and sweets so much..
Anyways, it's a great dessert and fast to make. I have also heard it called "Hi neighbor" and "Four Layer Yummy". Also some people use different flavors of puddings. My family and I always stick with the chocolate and vanilla.
K

PS I am sure Brenda is fine..she gets super busy with her job, and life, and sometimes it's the weekend before she can get caught up with her "QB family"..just gives more time to get more ornaments made...and maybe a Texas Pie!!

grann of 6 10-11-2013 12:48 PM

Well, sad to say, the only thing that appeals to me in that Texas pie is the pecans and the whipped topping. I have acid reflux and am lactose intolerant, and can't eat chocolate, gives me a migraine. I do eat an occasional vanilla or rice pudding. I can eat whipped topping since it really isn't dairy. Also I take cholesterol med to keep mine down. My dad died of a heart attack at age 49 and his dad at 60, so I am ripe for heart disease, so watch my diet quite rigidly. Kind of takes the fun out of life, but hey, I get to see my DGKs grow up. And I too am not a heavy person.

lynnie 10-11-2013 12:56 PM

Miss Kiffie, you sold me on texas pie. sounds as good as derby pie. don't know what's in it, pecans and gooey stuff, but it's great. I agree with the low fat method, might do this this weekend. sounds too good to be true. I won't kiss my dh after hot wings or yucky stuff like that. to my swap partners, you're not getting your ornies mailed till Monday. the way it's looking I won't get your names till sat, and our po closes at 12 noon here on long island. gosh, the longer it takes to get the nae, the better the pkg will be from me, i'll add another thing tomorrow. thanks miss kiffie for the yummy recipe, sounds toooo good to share with anyone, when I do make it, i;ll sneak a bite of it here and there.

Ladybug 1938 10-11-2013 04:00 PM

lynnie have you heard from Brenda??? Is she okay???

cherrio 10-11-2013 05:06 PM

well , carry on and we'll have em ready to mail when we get names! as for the needle felting-I liked it! It came out pretty cute. a lil bigger that what I wanted but it just kinda got outta control . . . I can't post pics but maybe the receiver can. still working on other ones too. I'm out of wool because I just bought enough to give it a try. so after the first of the year I can get some more and get ahead for next year! I have been busy since last fall making my grandsons all kinds of felt foods for their "store". they got a TON last Christmas and I have a few more to make. they asked for Oreos, corn on the cob and canoli. I have never in my 60 years seen a canoli so I'm gonna have to research it. heck when I was a kid, we were lucky to get a coke and a bag of chips to share (5 of us kids) on payday. I made em a pizza now I want to try a Turkey for their restaurant. sure wish I could post pics!

You should try carob then gran. It is kind of like eating chocolate and honey. I love it myself. The health food section should have it like a powder or in chips for cookies. I use the Hershey's chocolate powder to make my cake, so most of my recipes are interchangeable with the carob.

I have carob here, carob chips and carob powder. It is just not the same, doesn't send out that wonderful aroma. I did a test with my DGKs one time with carob chips vs. choc chips. They couldn't tell the difference. But the older boy said, "where's the chocolate smell?" I don't eat a lot of sweets anyway, so it really is no problem. I just don't allow anyone to bring chocolate into the house or I will eat some, and then get a migraine.

owlvamp 10-11-2013 05:47 PM

Doesn't anyone talk to Brenda? I really hope she is okay.

brenda21 10-11-2013 06:25 PM

Ok ya'll I'm fine just two CRAZY days at work...going to start sending names right now:thumbup:

cherrio 10-11-2013 06:35 PM

GRAN OF 6, I think it was you (was it?)and your post (and pics)about all the felt and cloth handmade food etc that encouraged me to start doing it for the boys! you did a great job!

lynnie 10-11-2013 06:59 PM

as you all know by now, Brenda is o.k., just got home and rec's a pm from her waving a flag saying it's all o.k. so now we can rest and get on to mailing. had date night so just got home with dh. as for cannoli, one of my favorites. I make the cream a lot, but not the shells. I take ricotta add sugar cinnamon and vanilla to taste, yummy!!!!!

as for my swap partners. I started to write out the names on the padded envelopes, went to my next mail and wrote the wrong persons name, don't have any more padded envelopes, so you're getting it with a crossed out name, so so sorry, please forgive me, hope you like what's inside

lynnie 10-11-2013 07:00 PM

oh, I remember someone last year making so much good looking food, it made me hungry.

Nope, not me.

cherrio 10-11-2013 08:23 PM

hmmm I sent my pin cushions to the wrong addresses. I think, I'm pretty sure. yea, so it's not a leap to say I mix things up occasionally. was a lady from maybe Sweden? that did all the felt food. anyone remember it? she had pics of all the stuff and the fabulous store they bought for the kids too. hmm will check around

lawsonmugs 10-11-2013 09:15 PM

I remember the food and the little shelves and counter with a cash register on it. so cute. She made the fruits and veggies from felt and her husband I think made the wooden counters etc. I believe it was a Christmas present for their gran child last year. soo cute.

lawsonmugs 10-11-2013 09:22 PM

I found where she asked for patterns to make them.her screen name is granny_59 if you want to pm her.

kiffie2413 10-12-2013 01:18 AM

The food ornys sound super cute! Mom and I have made a few crocheted foods..some strips of bacon, made into lil fridge magnet for ds, as he loves bacon!
I hear ya on migraines, grann...I used to get them twice a month, hormonally, like clockwork.. total hysterectomy in 2005 took care of most of them. I very occasionally get one now and again, used to give myself Imitrex injections, but the nasal version works just as well...and I can do without the shots! As for my cholesterol, I just try and watch my diet (some). When I tried to take statins in the past they made my liver enzymes go way out of whack..gotta have my liver. I also have tried Niacin, made me sick. Seems like since I've been on my Lupus med, my cholesterol has come down...I also always thought migraines were only hormonally related in my case, but now know they are not uncommon in us "lupies".
Ah well, as I say, " In the garden of life, everyone has a row to hoe, some people just have more weeds...".
Take care all!
K

brenda21 10-12-2013 04:45 AM

grann of 6 10-12-2013 04:52 AM

Glad to everything is okay. Life sometimes gets in the way of what we REALLY want to do. Now I have to decide which ones I am sending out and which ones I am keeping for gifting here.

cherrio 10-12-2013 05:44 AM

Lawson mugs, thank you for saving a tiny piece of what's left of my sanity! granny_59! yes, that was the inspiration for making all the fruits, veggies, pastries and foodies and containers etc. I made birds for my ornaments tho, not food. Guess I just got off topic. sorry. now I have housework to finish and homecoming flowers to pick up. later!

Tothill 10-12-2013 07:48 AM

Have fun everyone.

I really enjoyed this swap last year.

I had hoped to sign up again this year, but my computer died 10 days ago and I just got it back. I did get the email from Brenda to sign up, but could not figure out how to reply without my computer (email to my phone).

I know I missed the deadline, but will be watching here and Brenda if you need an extra to help out if someone has to drop out I will be happy to pitch in.

lynnie 10-12-2013 08:56 AM

for migraines, my doc gave me relpax. worked like a charm very expensive $366/6 pills. they only gave you 6 pills a month!!! now they switched me to elevil, and I have only had 3 migraines in the past year, the bonus to that is I take it at night and it helps me sleep. i'm up to 50 mg. when I get a migraine, the doc told me to up it 10 mg, that' how I know how many headaches I've had since going on. it's cheap coz it's been around since the 50's.
how's everyone doing in the ornament area? i'll be mailing Monday, our po closes at 12 noon here, so Monday it is.

cherrio 10-12-2013 09:33 AM

no names yet but the ornies are ready to go. just reminding everyone-if you want to post a pic of what you send me-because I can't. can't wait. I love this swap

Nelco 10-12-2013 10:03 AM

I got my names this morning. Hang in there she is working as fast as she can. I had fun last year and this year I am trying something new. Will see how they turn out.

grann of 6 10-12-2013 10:36 AM

Mine are done too. I made 3 different kinds, so will have to make a decision at mailing time.

Dedemac 10-12-2013 10:50 AM

For all that are mailing on Monday you better use the self service, since it is Columbus Day I believe the offices are closed and no mail is delivered. Just a reminder:thumbup:

cherrio 10-12-2013 11:36 AM

well then, Tuesday it is! I'm not fretting about the names. the ornaments -now that was just a hard decision for me. now that they are done it's just fun. can't wait to the pics
