Working on one of my ornaments now. Still no name so I just keep waiting and working.

Dedemac 10-14-2013 05:55 PM

You are not alone in waiting for the name, baking a cake tonight so will clean my hands and back to sewing. Hope to get my person tomorrow.:)

lynnie 10-14-2013 06:11 PM

Patti, don't worry, someone will swap with you, i'm sure Brenda is so crazy busy with that pesky job of hers. she hasn't forgotten us, just crazy with life. be patient. yeah, easy for me to say, i'd be climbing the walls waiting for my swap partner. i can't wait for anything, it might be the adhd i have. i'm constantly on the move and try to get a few things done.
still decicing on what to do for my pc swap. join us there. we need swappers, and i know we have a few international and from canada. start making now so you have it ready. (i'm actually looking at next years swap ornaments.)

starshine 10-14-2013 06:56 PM

Whew! I'm relieved to see names are still being assigned, I hadn't gotten my names yet and was afraid there may have been a glitch. And I haven't been on too much myself.

Thank you for hosting this Brenda.

Crafty Darlene 10-14-2013 07:58 PM

Finally got to Hobby Lobby today and bought the things I need to get started on my ornaments. Got 1 made and it turned out really cute. Haven't started on the other one yet. (I would like to try to send 2:)) Hopefully tomorrow. Got my names (Thank you Brenda)and hope to mail this week. I just love this swap, it's my second time doing it, had so much fun last year and I loved my ornaments! Making these ornaments makes me want to take my fall stuff down and start on Christmas! LOL!!

lawsonmugs 10-14-2013 08:12 PM

Hang in there ladies (and gents?) I got mine yesterday. Brenda does have a full time job and cannot work on the names on her work computer. You still have lots of time to make and send the ornaments. You won't be left out. Brenda will make sure everyone gets there ornaments, and names. She has secret angels to help if someone drops out or doesn't send. I was an angel 2 yrs ago so I know this is true.I know it is hard to wait for your names. Sometimes it seems harder than waiting for the ornaments.I sometimes feel like i'm 5 yrs old again. Now I'm gonna go sneak into the kitchen and swipe a piece of cookie. Don't tell anyone. (after all I really am not 5 yrs ols)hugs mary

kiffie2413 10-14-2013 10:02 PM

Just dropped in to see if my names had arrived. Not yet so back to housework. Completely cleaned and picked up over half the house today and now onto laundry and making more orns. Got three of those little time stealers done last while watching tv with DH. Wonder how many tonight. I guess that depends on how much of the fabric I get cut and ironed before kids go to bed and relaxing starts.

lynnie 10-15-2013 04:13 PM

the roasted turkeu, first is tiny, about the size of a small Cornish game hen.
second, I gotta have someone take a photo for me, that won't be till next week.
next, someone here might get it b4 I get a photo of him.
what I did, drew a weird 1/2 circle, sewed the top hump of it, then cut an oval to be the bottom gusset. then cut a bone, looked like a dog bone 1/2 and drew a thingy that looked like a turkey leg. stuffed that turkey really full, when you think it's full, keep stuffing. stuffed the leg well. then drew a wing, in a v shape stuffed that and attached it all. now tomorrow off to savers to get a platter to serve him on.
if you're lucky and join the swap, you might get him. took a bit of time to make him, a real turkey could probably make one quicker.

lynnie 10-15-2013 04:20 PM

did anyone feel sorry for me for having to stand in line so long at the dmv. a full 1/2 hr just to be told got stand in line over there. that's the government for ya. they had hard wooden benches to sit on, just like in church and I sat there for 2 1/2 hrs more, coz I was standing in the line too long, so I sat down, they had a bazillion other people to help b4 me. then they wanted a picture. thank goodness I blow dryed my hair so I looked good. they made me read that damn eye chart only superman could see. I outsmarted them,,,they told me to take three steps back, I didn't, just shuffled my feet. started to read the sign and they just took my photo, so I complained I could only see yellow spots, the lady didn't want to keep me any longer so she let me go. score!!!! it was either 180 for my cdl or 80 for regular, so I opted out for the cheap way, no way was I gonna stand on that line come my birthday next year, that day is saved for icecream and sewing.

lawsonmugs 10-15-2013 04:57 PM

Lynnie I want to see a picture 2.I renewed my licence at the local licence bureau (dmv). I was no. 42. only 6 other people there. Life is sooo good in a small town sometimes. This was one of the good times.Sorry about your back for real. Hugs Mary

cherrio 10-15-2013 05:02 PM

Our dmv is in our mall and the KITCHEN STORE is right across the hall. when I went in sept I had 24 people in front of me. I grabbed my number and went shopping. you can even see the numbers changing from there! I will attempt to do the turkey. I can't think of a food, pastry, veg or frozen treat that I haven't sewn already for the boys. I am making them the bags of flour, rice, sugar next. I saw granny_59 had even done "bolts" of fabric so I may have to do that too. She did such a great job. I will mail my ornies out soon. I was worried because my dogs thought the birds were chew toys. so, I put them up on the kitchen table and went to read. yawn, fell asleep and when I looked for them in the morn I couldn't find them. on my way downstairs to let the dogs out back-I found 1 bird not damaged, and a large fluffy pile of wool not far from that. so, the #@$#%&* cats had a field day! so, making a felted something else and a new bird. my sister took the bird we found. said she didn't mind a lil kitty spit! not funny! so, Grim the black cat is suspect as well as his calico colored sister, Prissy. so, when the new and clean ornies are done this week I will mail out! now I'm gonna go watch NCIS LA

lawsonmugs 10-15-2013 05:15 PM

that's funny cherrio (sorry)

Pattia 10-15-2013 05:49 PM

still decicing on what to do for my pc swap. join us there. we need swappers, and i know we have a few international and from canada. start making now so you have it ready. (i'm actually looking at next years swap ornaments.) lynnie, I just went to the swap section and only see the October PC swap but it is closed. Am I missing something? I would like to find out more. I did exchange one Pincushion in a swap a few months ago. I guess I might be able to do another. I was just worried about being late. I know I can finish an ornament as I started several last year and did not quite get to finish them.

lynnie 10-15-2013 07:41 PM

cheerio I don't mind cat spit.
mary, I live in a fairly small town, but then again, I live on long island new York, so even our small towns are big here.if you get off the line, you may never get back on. an old lady passed out today, I swear to the quilt faries she did. or maybe she just wanted to get ahead in the line.
pattia, a lot of people do the ornament and pincushion swap. I do both. get ready with an idea, our new hostess says she's doing November too, so I made the roasted turkey for it. still need to make one more pin cuhion for next month. My kitty ZOEY is trying to get my attention. she puts me to bed every night, then goes and watches tv with dh for awhile. comes in with him and sleeps between the two of us. (or on top of me). so you see, cheerio, cat spit doesn't bother me, just means they kissed it extra for me!
goodnight all, happy quilting

kiffie2413 10-15-2013 10:19 PM

Lynnie,
I was just this close to feeling for you...then you mention shuffling your feet and saying you saw spots after your pic, getting out of reading the eye chart...so there went my sympathy for ya!! When I had to renew, I got a man who was older than Methuselah, and rude..rude..rude...he was such a "joy" (not) to watch with the people ahead of me..I was hoping I wouldn't get him..but of course, I did..I almost told the person behind me to "Please go on ahead." They would probably have asked me what did they ever do to me?? Lol.. So, you're a lucky gal..
Thanks for the info on your turkey, but I need pictures! I have such a rough time picturing things, am a visual learner...so, I will eagerly anticipate pics..

cherrio 10-16-2013 06:41 AM

well, my lil bluebird is on my sister's tree now. yes, she is one of those who leaves her tree up YEAR ROUND. yep. I am working on a red one for the swap. the red and pinkish bird sitting in a cute lil brown nest musta said something "catty" and Grim tore him a new one! haha literally. I didn't realize just how much wool I had compacted into the bird till I saw the fluff and his 2 lil button eyes staring up at me from the rug. . . sob. so, Grim and Prissy are on probation. Lord I just had visions of what they will do to my Christmas tree! this is their 1st Christmas.

grann of 6 10-16-2013 07:24 AM

Got my ornies all ready to mail. My Great Dane, Heidi, is so funny. She loves to go for rides, and when she sees me take out the packing tape, she gets all excited. Well, today I thought I fooled her. Walked out to the living room to put the envelopes near the door, and said to myself, "There, they are all ready for the post office at some point." Didn't she hear me and come running and bouncing around?!?! So now I have to take her with me. Mind you, I live a half mile from our p o and could walk it if I wanted to take my life in my hands. It is a small country po and I can usually be in and out in less than 5 minutes if I don't talk to the postmistress who also quilts.

lynnie 10-16-2013 08:14 AM

Kiffie, i downgraded my license from a cdl ($180) to a grade d, regular ($80). on a cdl you need a good vision with both eyes, on a regular you get to do the eye test with two eyes opened. so i downgraded.my retirement plans was to keep the cdl and move to fl and drive for disney. in walks my dh 7 yrs ago, and ruins my retirement plans. oh well, so now i have this great husband, and no retirement plan. the fact that i'm disabled does not factor into my plans at all!

cheerio, first year with new fur babies....oh the good old days!!!!! Zoey sits half way up the tree, sprawled over few branches. the tree looks sooo nice at first. after a day or two, the bottom third is bare. i guess your sister doesn't have fur babies, or she just likes to redecorate every day. i put unbreakables low on the tree for furbaby reasons. oh what fun you'll have this year!!!!

grann, now you have your hands full, full of a B I G furbaby. I bet he's a bigger baby than any kitty too. well, at least you know if you want to take a cross country trip, you have a passenger that will keep you company. At least your baby didn't tear up your work. i guess if he did, he could do it all in one big gulp.

i'll have my friend take a pic next tues and we'll post my roaster then. let me know if you get your ornaments, the people i addressed them to. ck in with you all later to see the pics of todays ornaments. enjoy the day, it's beautiful here on long island today. later friends

cherrio 10-16-2013 08:33 AM

well Lynnie, that driving for Mr. Disney sounds like a good plan. Hubs won't go for it huh? oh well. yes, the 2 kitties were rescues this past spring. mamma got hit by a car so . . and the 3 yr old grey cat puts up with them pretty good. The 4 dogs tolerate all but the grey cat wants no part of the shenanigans. eats, sleeps, poop. repeat. that's Milo's agenda. My sister has 1 beagle and a golden lab and a chocolate lab. and 4 cats in the house. then 2 outside cats. she had chickens and rabbits but it got to be a bit much for the neighbors:mad:. gran-the animals have us so figured out! oh yea Lynnie, sister decorates it from about 1/3 from the bottom and up. till Christmas. then they have a water bottle and squirt! It would so NOT be worth it for me.

grann of 6 10-16-2013 08:41 AM

Lynnie, my Dane is quite the Princess, very spoiled, now that she is the only dog on the premises. She loves being an "only child".

Cherrio, they certainly do. And today when my DN across the street came home from tennis, Heidi let me know he was home. She barked and carried on. I looked out to see him at his mailbox waving at her and saying hi. Too funny. I'm sure she wanted to go over and say hi closeup.

mdall 10-16-2013 10:42 AM

Still no name, which means more time to decide on exactly which one of the ones that are made to mail. Maybe I should post pics once all are done and see if my partners comment, then deciding one which ones to send will be done. Just might do that. Any color choices out there? You never know I may just have that one.

Dedemac 10-16-2013 11:36 AM

Mdall I'm in the same boat with you no name:( What is your favorite color? Since you are asking? We tend to do theme trees, all purple or all white or all old ornaments I try to change it each year, one year I tried to use all of our ornaments had to do two trees. Really! We have been collecting ornaments for 33 years.

lawsonmugs 10-16-2013 12:37 PM

Maybe you can post a picture of your tree with the quiltingboard ornaments on it.??? That is when you receive yours. She should be getting close to being done I would think. Brenda does have a job and a family. I don't know how many signed up this year. Did anyone ever find out?

lynnie 10-16-2013 01:14 PM

I remember hearing it was a lot. this is a fun group swap nd we usually get a lot of chatter. and me, the social butterfly, will talk to anyone, ask my mother, she says i'll talk to anyone, I don't care. well, I shouldn't, how else will I get to know people unless I talk to them, and it passes the time too.( my mom is sour grapes)
colors. I do my tree in the living room white and aqua, dh is jewish so we put up a tree and found a bunch of great things in those colors. other colors go in my sewing room, and since I've been in this swap, I keep my ornis out all year. they make me smile and remind me of the crafty people in my community, (you quilters). I love all ornaments. I like unusual things, to receive. when it comes to giving, I try to go mainstream, i'm out of the box, down the block in an octagon. i'm getting ideas for next year. will start on them soon and put them away.you get four or five from me. awww, just send them all along, that's way, you gotta like one of them. so everyone, show us what you've made.

mdall 10-16-2013 01:48 PM

Dedemac, my favorite colors for xmas tend to be gold, silver, red, or blue. Its about the only time of the year that I am drawn toward blue. My tree usually has mostly handmade, country style ornaments. I have been collecting Santas for 25 years. Its a tradition to get a new one every year. Havent found Santa for this year. I also collect a new village piece every year. I would love to have the room to do more than one year but not that lucky. We do on occasion get a small artificial for outside and decorate that one with orns made from nature.

Lawson, I imagine Brenda is very busy just as I am. I can wait to get my name, makes it more fun. Also it gives me more time to get my orns ready.

mdall 10-16-2013 02:44 PM

Lynnie, nothing wrong with being talkative. I know I am most of the time. DH says my mouth runs like a bell flapper in a gooses butt. LOL You know, he is write and my fingers are even more outgoing. I probably chat on here and post more than I talk to people when out in public.

I have only been doing this swap for two years now but hope to one day have enough orns to do my tree in just swap orns.

Dedemac 10-16-2013 03:15 PM

Grann of 6 and Lynnie what are your favorite colors for the tree? Do you use all one color lights or multi color strings.

grann of 6 10-16-2013 03:35 PM

Well, Dedemac, I really don't do a tree anymore. When I had the two dogs there wasn't room in the living room for one, so I would put one up in the basement sewing studio with all the orns we collected during our years of marriage. But since I stopped having Christmas here, I don't even put that one up. The DGKs used to like to come help me put it up, but they are older and too busy now to be concerned with helping Grann. I have a little sewing tree with white lights, and all sewing related miniature orns on it. I used to add to it every year, but no room any more for anything else on it. I am thinking of making a wallhanging type tree with buttons on it, to hang all the QB orns from. I love all colors for my tree when I have one. I used to have a blue and silver tree in honor of the dog I used to have before Gus and Heidi. But now I will probably find a place for a little tree with purple orns on it, since purple is Heidi's favorite color.:D

lynnie 10-16-2013 04:19 PM

dedemac, my tree is white with aqua ornaments or snowmen or snow "stuff" I have white lights and sometimes I throw on an extra 300 or so aqua. this way I get my tree and dh gets his hannuakka. it's such a calming and peaceful looking tree. even have a few 6 pointed stars for dh.. I also have an aqua and silver toaster that says ZOEY, coz dh calls her zoester the toaster. I also have real angel wing feathers at the top in memory of my past kitty XANADU.(he was a maine coon, zoey is a Russian blue).
gran, so glad Heidi like purple, zoey's fav color is pink, her tiara's are pink, her collar, scrunchi, and neclaces even her real pearls are pink. she says it makes her coat look more grey, or blueish. Heidi sounds like the princess at your house. Zoey is here and has the throne and tiarras to prove it. I like your idea of a wall tree. great idea there. almost like an advent calendar.

mdall, always wanted a village, never had the room. I need to get my son's nutcracker collection from my moms attic. at last count when it was stored away, we had 82 nutcrackers. some of them were very expensive over $300. he has all types. now I have an entertainment unit, I can put some crackers on top and maybe village too.
i'm in the mood for something sweet, dh is napping on the couch. I don't know how that man sleeps at night after a nightly nap at 8 pm. if I blink to much, I can't sleep at night.then of course because of all the water I drink, I gotta get up once an hour to make a deposit. then Zoey gets up, and it takes her 5 minutes to get comfortable and falls asleep on my legs. ohhhh, what we do for our fur babies.

lynnie 10-16-2013 04:21 PM

hey Mary,~~~~~~ big wave, whatcha up to, any thing in your area of the woods???? you're quiet today.

starshine 10-16-2013 05:00 PM

I need to get started on my ornies. so I will have them to mail on time.

grann of 6 10-16-2013 05:02 PM

Lynnie, Heidi usually sleeps with me at least part of the night. Sometimes she beats me to the bed and lays crosswise the bottom, so when I get in bed I can't stretch out. Makes for a tough night of sleeping. And she won't move for anything. Sometimes I get up and rattle her dog bone bucket, then she will get off the bed. Then I hustle in and take my place hogging the bed. That's life with a 128# dog.

lawsonmugs 10-16-2013 06:13 PM

Lynnie I'm here Hi !! Just been kinda helping hubby work on the bathroom. He's taken down the 4 inch white tile that is on 3 walls around the tub and replacing the sheetrock then putting 12 inch tan tile up. Big job. A lot of slow work and measuring. It's 9 pm and a lot of regulars are off the net. I need to start to bed soon. Not much else goin on here in my neck of the woods. Have a good night eberyone. hugs mary
