PenniF 10-15-2014 07:15 PM

That's rotten.....Hope you feel better soon....i betcha it's that dank damp dark hole that's the cause !!! But seriously, take good care !!!

kiffie2413 10-15-2014 11:56 PM

Feel better soon!
I know I'm crazy, but I'd rather have another kidney stone than a sinus infection or head cold.
I've had too many stones to count, but I'm seriously uber pitiful when my nose/sinuses are stopped up.
When I feel bad I just want to be left alone...to wallow in my misery of "stopped upped-ness".
So I really feel for you.
Kif

Mdall, Have a cup of your hot tea, and have the boys do all the work! You need to take care of your self! Hope you better soon.

mdall 10-16-2014 07:29 AM

Thanks ladies for the good wishes. Just got back from Dr. And it's a sinus infection along with respiratory infection too. Got some antibiotics and should be feeling better some tomorrow. I have received the PM's for new swappers and will update the list later. Heading off for a nap before the boys get home later and the chaos begins for the evening. Chat with all of you later. P.S. while waiting for meds. to get filled I found bling for some of my ornaments. Looking forward to getting started on them. Have tons of plans in my stuffy little head. LOL

lawsonmugs 10-16-2014 08:28 AM

Kiffie, I made one of those Jack the seam ripper blocks. I think it is so cute. Fell better soon mdall

Glad to hear you got some meds and will soon be feeling better! Have a wonderful nap!

PenniF 10-16-2014 06:39 PM

Glad you went to the doc....some people put that off and sinus infections can be really serious !! Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Pondering where in the world you got your prescription filled that they had "bling" for ornaments....????? Conjures up all kinds of curious possibilities!

Finished 1 ornament and was getting ready to start on another when i realized that maybe i'd better wait and see if my "swap-ee" has put down something specific about likes or themes. Can't wait to find out who !!!

mdall 10-16-2014 07:54 PM

Penni- got meds filled at Rite Aid. There is a Family Dollar next door to it. Found large pack of rhinestone earrings there for 2 bucks. Just remover earring setting and you have bling. Cheaper than being them at the craft stores around here where a package could be 5 bucks or more. I know not the norm but I look for ideas and improvise when I can. Have two orns half done now. Worked on them while chilling on the couch earlier resting.

Hopefully will feel up to finishing them tomorrow and then on to next idea in my head. HINT - baler twine. told you I dont think like the norm.

Nelco 10-17-2014 10:04 AM

Mdall - Know how UR felling. Not good. Now as for my hint for my partner. I will go with anything that is flat so I can hang it on my wall.

Just a reminder for all the swappers. Teasing is allowed, when matching names I am going to try and match myself with someone that does not post. This will allow everyone to post pics of those orns just to tease people if they wish. Also, hints are allowed just keep them simple and not to easy as we dont want people figuring out who has their names. Now for the hole. I am planning on returning to said hole tomorrow or Sunday, got some neb. meds today that should have me back up and running along with the antibiotics so save a spot for me, I am bringing rum with me when i return.

klaws 10-17-2014 04:17 PM

Oh heck, I might as well sign up also. Will send PM shortly. :)

lawsonmugs 10-17-2014 05:04 PM

.

Don't you LOVE it when that happens ??!!

materialgrl 10-18-2014 02:32 AM

Do we reveal our names when we send it or at a later date?

lawsonmugs 10-18-2014 08:50 AM

Materialgrl, Put a note or card in with your ornament to let your partner know it's from you. Also remember to add your screen name to the note. Then they know who to look up to send a thank you p.m.

JuneBillie 10-18-2014 10:05 AM

I just sent in my info to join for one ornament. Am I too late?
I don't think I have ever joined this type swap before.

klaws 10-18-2014 10:24 AM

Susan, I thought you weren't going to do any more swaps until after the first of the year. Couldn't resist, huh??? :D:D:D I'm guilty of that too. :p But, that's the fun of it.

Hi,
Quick question:
Since this is secret pal, how are we going to know what our partner wants?
I saw a few posts saying they'd made an ornament, then thought they should wait until they get ideas of preferences about their partner.

I figured we were just making an orny, or 2-3 :) and as long as it's hand made and something we'd like to receive ourselves, that was fine...

As someone said, some people don't post very often...and sometimes we get busy and don't read all thru the posts...especially with it heading into holidays. So it'd be hard to try and figure out specific likes..

So is it ok if we go ahead and make the ornys?

Regards,
Kif

mdall 10-18-2014 12:42 PM

Okay ladies, sorry I was not on earlier to answer all of your questions, I woke up this morning feeling worse than I expected. DH fixed me a little breakfast then back off to bed I went. Guess those meds are taking longer than I thought they would to get me better.

Anyway to answer your questions.

Materialgrl, your partner will only find out who you are once they receive their ornaments. Just as Lawsonmugs said put a note in with them including your screen and real name.

JuneBillie, no you are not to late. Signups close tomorrow at 6 P.M.

Kiffie, yes you can start making your ornies now if you wish, I have started on some of them. Most of the people participating have added a few things they like with their info. You will receive that with your partner name when they come out. The only rule to this is that they are handmade. You have the option of waiting to see their preferences in order to personalize more or not. Its up to you. Not too many have been real picky just happy to be doing the swap so dont worry. Just have fun.

As far as posting, it is not required those that want to may. I know how busy life can get, after all I have 5 boys and the DH to care for so I understand. Fortunately, we are making ornaments and we wont need to make things to personal.

If there are any more questions please feel free to ask, I will try to answer them as soon as possible.

Now off to to try and get a little dinner fixed, cant expect DH to do it all. Well I can but what fair would that be. Talk later ladies.

RedGarnet222 10-18-2014 12:46 PM

The one I am making is so generic that anyone who receives it should really like it kiffie. I just love to make ornaments and I make them every year just for fun.
I just ordered a great book from amazon called Fa la la la Felt that looks like it may just be what I am looking for to make for the swap.

mdall 10-18-2014 12:47 PM

If there is anyone having a hard time coming up with ideas for an ornament, there is two links at the beginning of the thread where you can get some ideas. Also I am going to try and find some other links for a few tutes later this evening and post. Hoping I can last that long before having to head back to bed.

paintmejudy 10-18-2014 12:59 PM

Seeing a lot of old friends here, some are taking time off from the mystery quilt to make an ornament! But then, most of you are all caught up.

mdall 10-18-2014 01:16 PM

Better post this before I forget again. Other than roseirish48 and Anastasia, are there any other people here that are related or really close friends or something. The reason I am asking is for when I match up names. I am going with the old draw from a hat method and would like to know ahead of time if there is someone that you may not want to be partnered with due to making it harder to keep the secret from them since you are together alot. Just wondering. I will try to make sure you dont have that person if you would like. I know how it is when you are with those close people and trying to keep that secret, it doesnt always work. I got matched with someone in a past swap locally, my partner turned out to be the person I was suppose to be working on the project with for fun and it was so hard not to slip.

JuneBillie 10-18-2014 02:14 PM

mdall I hope you get some rest, and get to feeling better.

kiffie2413 10-18-2014 02:26 PM

Thanks for replying so fast!

I know I'm happy to receive whatever. And I always try to make something(s) that I would be happy to have myself.

I usually try to get started on my swap items as soon as I can, with my Mom's health (lung cancer survivor, lives with me), hubbys health, and my own health issues along with 2 grandbabies (wonderful busy time with them, tho), I never know when an emergency might pop up.. So try and get stuff made asap is my motto.

And I know we ALL have busy lives, too...

Feel better soon!
K

Sign ups will be closing in 23 hours. Get the word out there please, dont want anyone to miss it. I have a 4H meeting with the kids tomorrow evening so will get started on matching and putting out names then. Hoping I am feeling up to the meeting. I hate missing them.

PenniF 10-18-2014 03:04 PM

Kiffie...sorry if i confused by saying about waiting til i got my swap pal information.....I just thought there might be a "hint" in the info i got ....... like "i collect angels/santas/reindeer" or something, so i'd wait till i got my names in case the hint gave me any new ideas.

Thanks again for hosting mdall.... This is a lot of fun !!!

mdall 10-18-2014 03:22 PM

Your are completely welcome Penni. Not a problem, just wish I didnt end up sick and could get more done faster. I love this swap and was really bummed when I saw that it had not been posted. So whats the best way to solve the problem. Do it yourself. Just hope I can live up to the last host.

mdall 10-18-2014 03:31 PM

It seems alot of people are waiting to see if there are any specific likes and such for the partners. Most everyone listed something on their info but lets get more specific since I know some of us are just set on making the ornaments as personal as possible. Ill get it started.

I have a 7foot tree that is very thick so larger ornaments are welcome. Now lets see, I have been collecting Santas for almost 25 years now. Its a tradition that was started with my aunt one year. I must have a new santa every year, not necessarily an ornament but Santa. I also have alot of snowmen and handmade orns. I tend to lean towards more silver than gold also alot of burgandy and deep reds. I also have tons of dark blues considering I am not a blue person except for the holidays. I like to go outside of the box during this time since most people stick to the red, green, and white. I love ornaments that have a quilting theme. Also, anything with bling on it.

mdall 10-18-2014 03:34 PM
