I have decided to challenge myself this year. As we all know the prices of things are just getting ridiculous so here is my challenge. I have decided that I am going to try and only use the items I already have here to make my ornaments. Trust I have a good bit. I will admit I did already buy a container of dressmaker pins, I was out for one of my ornaments planned. I will say that I found them dirt cheap though, $2. With that said I am going to try and not spend anymore other than postage. So let see if anyone else can do this. Who knows maybe this could lead to another type of swap in the future.

Here is a list of what I have to make things more exciting, of course its a short list because lets face it, dont want to crash the system. LOL

Styrofoam balls, just a couple left from last year
stickpins, glue gun, paint, glitter glue, strands of beads, seperae beads (those of you that know me I have tons of these) buttons, garland, berries, and assorted other craft items. Lets see what I can come up with.

Do you still have the wooden thread spools?

klaws 10-18-2014 05:15 PM

mdall, I sent you a PM last night but didn't see my name on the list.

mdall 10-18-2014 05:24 PM

Why Dedemac you have a great memory. I have one of those spools left but did receive a box of stuff from my grandmother that has something in it that would work in a similar way. Seriously, what a memory.

mdall 10-18-2014 05:26 PM

klaws, sorry about that, i did get your PM just didnt get your name on list that was posted. Will make sure i add it.

mdall 10-18-2014 05:28 PM

Alrighty, lets see if we can get more of us on here to post. Time for a game. I am gonna write a word. The next person to post must write another word that starts with the last letter in my word, then the person after that continues with the next word. Lets see if we can keep all the words related to Xmas.

Here we go, my word is Christmas.

RedGarnet222 10-18-2014 05:38 PM

Silver bells is one of my favorite Christmas songs. My word is santa.

My first ornament totally meets this challenge....but i did have to buy one thing for my second one (if that's what i actually wind up giving here)
I have 2 entire boxes full of Christmas makings --- I AM GRANDMA - I HAVE STUFF !!!! for projects with by DGD's. Most everything you mentioned plus in the generic craft box we can add sea glass, sea shells, wooden shapes of all kinds, balls of yarn, floss, X stitch cloth, card stock, paper, punches....etc etc....really could use some styrofoam balls tho.......

PenniF 10-18-2014 06:42 PM

I can totally meet your challenge. I have beads up the wazoo so I'm planning on doing a beaded ornament. But then again I have some cute Christmas fabric, oh wait, I have an ornament that I've wanted to try to knit. Hmm I also have been wanting to try twilling... Yep, as you can see, I have this swap totally under control.

JuneBillie 10-19-2014 02:03 AM

At first I thought, no I need some more ribbon, but I just remembered some I have. Now I have planning to do. Now I am in the spirit too. :D

mdall 10-19-2014 06:08 AM

mdall 10-19-2014 06:13 AM

Just wondering for later. Does anyone know how to change the thread to closed. Just wondering for later when signups are closed.

letsquilt 10-19-2014 06:16 AM

mall, I just sent you my info,I'm in for two ornaments please.I haven't done this but love ornaments and have some ideas.
I have been collecting Santas for about 25 years,a real good friend got me started one year and she has gotten me a new one every year . I also try to find a new one every year. My new love for snowmen and little trees started about 6 years ago. So now I have a Santa tree and a snowman tree. A curio that I put Santas and small trees in.

lawsonmugs 10-19-2014 06:17 AM

Noel-Letters (to santa). Love the yellow snow word. lol.

mdall 10-19-2014 06:26 AM

We are now up to 36 people, that a total of 63 ornaments being made and flying to their new homes. Wow, turned out to be more than I thought.

Welcome to

Dedemac 10-19-2014 06:38 AM

E... Evergreens

For the most part I will use what I have, before the challenge I went to Joann's to get some special colored tatting thread. So it was in my its in my stash now so it counts but its still new. :p

PenniF 10-19-2014 06:48 AM

E - Eggnog !!
Come on y'all......let's challenge ourselves not to repeat any of the words!

So funny....i had not thought of this in years...The game obviously jostled a brain cell somewhere.

One Christmas my brother and i made up a game sort of like this - I think i was probably about 10. We took the words Merry Christmas and wrote as many words as we could think of that used those only those letters. I'm pretty sure we allowed for proper nouns like names and towns - I don't remember the exact number but i know we ended up with more than 350 words. Thanks for the memory.

{{{{{OOPS...sorry....Dedemac posted while i was typing......}}}}}

jaba 10-19-2014 07:07 AM

I've done this every year so I guess I shouldn't break the habit now. I'm in for 2 mdall, sending a PM now

mdall 10-19-2014 07:17 AM

Penni, I thought of doing that game once everything was closed. I am still thinking of things to do to keep everyone coming back once signups are closed. I will come up with something. Maybe reindeer games or something with a few small prizes for the winners.

Welcome jaba.

Almost forgot my word, since Penni got the last post in Ill go with that one. Eggnog - g - Ghost of Christmas past.

mdall 10-19-2014 07:30 AM

Looks like my meeting today is probably gonna run over the 6 P.M. closing so I will be leaving the signups going until I get home. We are getting more people than I thought, how awesome. Well have to get some thing done around here before I leave for the meeting. Two of the kids have homecoming this week so for spirit week they have different themes for each day. Tomorrow is Decade day and they need help getting their clothes together, have one going as a punk and one in grunge. good thing they are almost the same except for hair and accessories this should be easy. talk to everyone later.

That is OK I missed that Evergreen was used.

T Tinsel

PenniF 10-19-2014 09:43 AM

Oh .... i don't think you'll have a lot of trouble keeping it rolling....just like Secret Santa we will have to start "hinting" and "teasing" about who we have and what we've made. So glad i joined....this is much less stressful (IMO) than the Secret Santa --- which makes it even more fun.

lawsonmugs 10-19-2014 10:59 AM

TinsiL-Leather Belt ( santa's belt) I think I am using what I have here also. I always have lots of crafts stuff. mdall ,what is your first name please? Your doing a great job so far.Mary

CookyIN 10-19-2014 11:25 AM

Just PM'd you for two ornaments. Looks like we have a great and enthusiastic group!

Let's see T... T'was the Night Before Christmas

CookyIN 10-19-2014 11:50 AM

By the way, I'm going to accept the challenge to use only items I already have on hand to make my ornaments. It's always fun to pull from my stash to make things!
