This fabric reminds me of the glorious lighting in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn.
I will fussy cut & frame with buttons!

NZquilter 09-13-2016 06:16 AM

I really want to join this swap, but I don't want something to happen (you know how life goes!) that will rush me in making the ornaments before the deadline. Would any of you ladies recommend that I make some ornaments now, and then sign up for the swap? And just pray that whatever I make will cover any of my bases? Thanks for any advice! I'm making some Christmas ornaments now for my famliy, so I can easily make a few extras:)

dotcomdtcm 09-13-2016 06:22 AM

I've already made some, and expect to have a few ideas. You only need one for your partner.

m-fay 09-13-2016 06:41 AM

dotcom I love those fabrics...
NZquilter make some now and you have till Oct 22 to join up (see #1)

NZ, I think most of us like just about any type of ornament and are grateful for the chance to share. I have one that got lost on my tree but I hung it up in my sewing area so I see it year round. I'm sure one of the extras you make will be perfect for the swap so go ahead and sign up!

Quilty-Louise 09-13-2016 09:29 AM

Not sure I will be able to make these this year, BUT they are going to be
on my "to-do list" for the future.

Main reason I want to make these is for my best friend (more like a sister)
her last name is Holle (pronounced Holly), so I love making her things that
have the holly theme to them.

I am in the last stage of finishing a christmas quilt I made from years of doing a swap here on the board. It is coming out cute and the girls did such a nice job on the blocks. It has put me into the mood to continue on with the christmas theme, so I got a great deal yesterday on a bucilla kit for a felt candy wreath. Half price! It is tons of felt ornaments attached to a wreath, so maybe I can make one into my partner's ornie. I have lots of extra felt around from other projects.

I also have a mirrored beaded ornament kit that still has some to finish up in it. I sent one to dotcom/dotty one year for out swap. I think everyone I have given one to liked it a lot.
Oh here is a pic of the wreath.

I am making aprons for my sister in laws gifts this christmas. They are not hard and so I will have a little more time than last year. I am also making a shopkeeper's apron for my friend who does those craft fairs with a booth. It will have zippered pockets to hold her cash. My other friend I want to make something with gingerbread houses. Not sure what yet. I already made her a cute christmas apron last week with a flying reindeer on it.

Love your ornaments M-Fay. Yours is really cute, but I do love those elf shoes your daughter made. They are just adorable.

I have made a felt ornament of an australian wild flower (I did some last time too) and my daughter has made some felt elf shoes that I fell in love with. but if my partner has a special request....I'll endeavour to do that.

Anoka Quilter 09-13-2016 11:30 AM

Hi NZquilter~

Please come play with use. The additional information is just to give people ideas, not a hard and fast that the ornament must be this. I would say that 98% of the time people enjoy the ornaments they get, even if it isn't what they asked for. I find the people who swap do it for the fun of it and that excitement of receiving something that someone else made just for you.

Dotty that fabric looks so 3D - very cute idea.
Nice face-flower & elf shoes, too - what is the name of the wildflower m-fay? (Can't be face-flower...)

The wreath & its ornaments reminded me of the year my 2 DDs & I made 60+ ornaments for their school - some made out of a cinnamon-mostly dough recipe & then decorated like cookies, some made out of clay. Still have a few precious ones that didn't make the grade.

m-fay 09-13-2016 05:04 PM

Quilty Louise. I love those Holly leaves and will definitely be making some of them.

Red Garnet your wreath is amazing and all the little ornaments.

K-roll The flower is a waratah, a native flower on the east coast of Australia and can be grown in gardens now.

trish b 09-13-2016 05:07 PM

Yes, the elf shoes are very nice. Thanks for the ideas from everyone.

I think I found the right one to make for this year! It is so dang cute and anyone would like it. Not telling what it is. LOL... I always just love the ornament swap. It is very fun to give and receive.

Nelco 09-14-2016 08:30 PM

I am in again. :) Love this swap and I have been looking at different ideas. I will be going to a quilt retreat Oct 9 so may work on some then.

LindaC 09-16-2016 05:06 AM

I took part in this swap a couple of years ago. My youngest daughter loves seeing the envelopes arrived from other countries and putting the ornaments on the trees each year. I think I will have to join up again.

eyes 09-16-2016 09:31 AM

I'm in because I love Christmas ornaments and look forward to a new one to put on the tree each year.

I haven't done a swap in years but I've read all the rules and I'm good to go.

K-Roll 09-16-2016 10:04 AM

m-fay, gorgeous! Waratah! thank you.

klaws 09-17-2016 07:32 AM

Count me in! I sent a PM with my info. I love this swap.

jclinganrey 09-17-2016 12:03 PM

The Peanuts character ornaments are cute!

I'm pretty much decided on what I'm going to do. I've come up with two options and both are really cool. Went shopping yesterday and bought enough 'stuff' to make two of each; one can be a prototype and if it works out well, it will go to my partner, if not, I'll have an ornament ((or trash can depending on how bad it turns out)) LOL

If all goes well, I am certainly up for being an angel swapper!!

stashmaker 09-17-2016 01:56 PM

I would like to swap a Christmas ornament this year. This is my first try and am looking forward to it.

Anoka Quilter 09-22-2016 07:14 AM

Just checking in to say hi....I was out of town for a personal vacation in MA. It always seems like I go places that does not have cell or internet service, but honestly it is nice to just escape the world once in a while.

I am going to get all caught up with all the PM's and put together a list of everyone who has signed up so far. It is my plan to have the list together so I can post it on Sunday. I am doing this to ensure that I have not missed a PM. Don't want to see anyone left out who wants to play.

Good news is no more trips for me till after the swap. Now to start thinking of fun things we can all do to make the swap interesting.

Cookie, I love the Peanut ornaments. My Grandson, who is going on 12 still loves the Peanuts, maybe the two of us will have to sit down and make some of these over the holidays.

Quilty-Louise 09-22-2016 03:42 PM

I have been out picking up stuff to make ornaments with.

Since I am not sure what my partner may or may not like
want to have a variety of options just in case.

dotcomdtcm 09-22-2016 04:00 PM

I was flipping thru Block magazine and found an ornament using iron -on & aluminum foil. Our national treasure, Jenny Doan, made ornaments w jell y roll strips and used foil for the top. Stabilized foil suggests many possibilities.
And iron-on products would add stability to sheet music, old cards, etc. Craft on!

roseirish48 09-23-2016 05:08 PM

count me in--i have bn looking at ornament patterns all year to find something special for my person.

NZquilter 09-24-2016 12:57 PM

I just send a PM signing up!

Cheesehead 09-24-2016 05:34 PM

Melanie, consider it done! I will look in my embroidery designs tomorrow, sheesh...I hope I still have it, not too many requests for Mr Happy!!! Funny, I know I made him once but never put him on the tree.

Jan

MizMelly 09-25-2016 05:56 AM

Hi Jan,
Is there any special ornament design you would want in exchange? I have close to 30 different patterns and lots of ideas. My tree will be real "happy" this year! Ha!!

I have one done and thinking of making a different one. Sew many ideas out there.

sewbizgirl 09-26-2016 08:40 AM

Mine are nearly done... hope I don't forget about them between now and the mailing date! :D

K-Roll 09-26-2016 12:44 PM

Got another profound idea (lol) and going into production!

Dotty I forgot to say, thanks for the fountain of ideas your post above is generating!

Oh my stars! This is what I have been working on this past week. I hope to make enough for one of the trees in the house. Next I plan to dip them in wax and sprinkle them with an iridescent glitter just to give them some sparkle. Jan

MizMelly 09-27-2016 12:22 PM

Wow! Gorgeous!! I know this is silly, but what kind of paper did you use to make these?

JNCT14 09-27-2016 12:30 PM

Anoka - I sent you a PM to participate. This looks fun and I see folks I know! Hi Miz Melly!

Cheesehead 09-27-2016 02:14 PM

Melanie, got the paper from Hobby Lobby, it's 40 weight and 24" wide. Found it in the section near the art supplies with the butcher paper and construction paper. I can't remember the exact price but with the 40% coupon it was under $10, I have made 75 stars and have enough paper to make at least another 75 stars. I think it was called "Kraft Paper".

I have a question regarding the ornaments.

Can an already made ornament (just the basic shape)
be used for the foundation of the ornament swap?

Example: metal white angel shape decorated.

Anoka Quilter 09-27-2016 08:48 PM
