Closed -Winter 1.5" Squares Swap-Neutrals & Lights--Swaps Have Been Mailed

This swap will be a bit different. We will be swapping 1.5" squares (postage stamps) of Neutrals & lights ONLY.
Neutrals may include: whites, creams, beiges, grays, tans, etc.
Lights may include: whites, creams, beiges, light colors, and anything with a light background, etc.

We will swap sets of 50 different squares. You may swap as many sets as you'd like--up to 20 sets.

Please use 100% cottons only! If in doubt of fiber content, please leave it out! And NO flannels.
You can use fabrics from yardage, fat quarters, scraps, and such. All sets do not need to be identical. Great time to use your scraps ladies! (and gents)

Please be sure to trim off the selvages before cutting your squares. Also try to be accurate in your cutting of the squares, so they DO measure 1.5".

Please double check that you have 50 squares per set!! We don't want to short change anyone. :)

It seems to work best if you put your sets of squares in small ziploc baggies. Be sure to label each baggie with your board name, etc.

Sign up closes March 15, 2012. Please send me a PM if you want to join, and tell me the number of sets you'd like to swap.
Sets are due to me no later than March 31, 2012. If you'd like to send early, just send a PM to me.
I will swap sets, and mail by April 10, 2012.

Please include a SASE with adequate postage on it for me to send you the same number of sets you sent in. Double check the postage, as I wouldn't want your squares to be held up. I can't be responsible for extra postage fees.

Please mail your sets in time for me to have them by March 31, 2012.

Any questions or concerns? Feel free to send me a PM! :)

booklady 12-19-2011 07:25 AM

I'm in on this one too! Will make myself a note to start on the packets.

Evie 12-19-2011 07:36 AM

I'm in for this one too. If I understand what a "neutral" is, it is any color not found on a color wheel, including black. Please correct me if I'm misstating. (March seems so far away! :) )

Mariposa 12-19-2011 07:51 AM

Evie- glad you want to join in!

I know this swap may be a bit odd for some folks. I know that the "Neutrals" needs to be loosely interpreted. Some of us may have a hard time finding so many whites and creams, etc.
Perhaps I will put the question out to folks: do we want to include blacks in this swap or not-??

quiltinghere 12-19-2011 01:34 PM

Sending you a PM - need to add to my collection. Thanks for hosting!

Evie 12-19-2011 03:48 PM

Here's a couple of definitions I found for neutrals, but let us know what our parameters are.

"By Lauren Flanagan, About.com Guide
"Question: What is a neutral color?
"Answer: Neutral usually means without color. Neutral colors such as beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, and white appear to be without color, and yet in many applications these hues often have undertones of color. <O:p</O:p
"Be aware of these underlying tones as you match colors or choose paint. For example, beige might have an undertone of pink or tan or gold. White might be slightly ivory, yellow, bluish, or peachy."

"Neutral
"A color not associated with a hue. Neutral colors include blacks, whites, grays and browns. A hue can be neutralized by adding some of its complement to it."

And, Mariposa, thanks for doing this. I was wondering if we were going to have a winter swap and here you are!

Ann L 12-19-2011 04:35 PM

It sounds like fun but I am wondering what to make with something that small. Ideas anyone?

I would like to join in, too

Mariposa 12-19-2011 09:22 PM

As a reminder, for this swap, we will be swapping light to medium neutrals (whites, creams, beiges, grays, tans) and lights. Lots of options for lights.
Please refer to original post. :) :)

*We will not be doing blacks.

I'm assuming neutrals include light fabrics that read solid along with solids. Really need these for my coliection.

quiltinghere 12-26-2011 05:35 PM

Wrote down my swapping info so I can start pulling fabrics.

Evie 12-27-2011 08:20 AM

Mariposa, I am assuming that "anything with a light background" means I can have little blue flowers or brown dots on white and they will count. Correct me if I'm wrong! Looking forward to this swap.

Mariposa 12-27-2011 06:01 PM

All of the squares can have designs on them, as long as you can see a fair amount of a light background, or a neutral.
Solids are good too. :)

Mariposa 01-09-2012 09:32 AM

How's everyone coming along on their squares-?

Evie 01-10-2012 08:06 AM

I've got about half my stamps cut out and may devote today to doing more. Mariposa, how many participants do we have signed up?

Mariposa 01-10-2012 09:36 AM

We have 12 signed up so far, with more "waiting". Guess I should get to cutting! ;)

hsquiltingmom 01-12-2012 07:02 AM

When you say 50 different squares, can they all be the same color or do they need to be different? Still trying to decide if I am going to do this.

Mariposa 01-12-2012 12:26 PM

hs- the squares need to be 50 different fabrics, but can be same color~~

Evie 01-13-2012 10:35 AM

Mariposa, I signed up for 20 sets. What happens if we don't get 20 participants? How would that work?

Mariposa 01-13-2012 01:17 PM

Evie~ I think we will just wait for now. Way too early. Usually more than 20 play. :)

Mariposa 01-20-2012 07:34 AM

We have more signing up! Wahoo! :):):)

jleister 01-20-2012 05:56 PM

I am signing up and hope to get ideas from you ladies as to what you are all making with these squares! T ake care, Julie

booklady 01-23-2012 05:54 PM

I need to get started on my cutting and get busy with this! i need to ck my stash to make sure I have enough different fabrics. It would be just terrible if I had to go out and buy some more fabric!

Mariposa 01-23-2012 06:37 PM

booklady--oh darn to have to visit a fabric shop! ;)

boilerbarb 01-25-2012 12:16 PM

My stamps are ready to mail. How many do we have? I may have to mail early due to an upcoming vacation. We'll see. Found out we get to go to Hawaii in Feb. Any suggestions for quilt shops? Can't wait!

Mariposa 01-25-2012 05:06 PM

booklady 01-30-2012 06:44 PM

Do we have a page to go to that shows how many and who are signed up for this?

Mariposa 01-30-2012 08:56 PM

booklady-no there isn't a page. SO far we have 15 committed, and more working on it~ :)

Havplenty 02-02-2012 07:09 PM

mariposa are dark tans (a coupla steps up from brown) included for this swap? i ordered a charm pack of neutrals and there are several dark tans-light browns in it. i am one "thinking" about it as i need to see what 50 fabs i can come up with and how many sets i can make up.

mary

Havplenty 02-02-2012 07:12 PM

mariaposa a coupla of the swaps i have been in with this new board format, the swap host created a group page that had the participants names listed, mailed info, received info by the participants names. i dont know if you have considered this.

Just checking in!

boilerbarb 02-08-2012 05:25 PM

My stamps are one their way!

Mariposa 02-08-2012 05:52 PM

Yay! I'll be watching for them! :)

quiltinghere 02-10-2012 06:13 PM

Started cutting my charms out yesterday and already have 12 fabrics cut. It's really not hard to do. Only takes ONE 1 1/2" strip to get over 20 charms...easy peasy.

VERY GLAD  to see that 'lights' are also allowed. That opens up a whole range of fabrics. Glad I checked.

I'll continue to cut fabrics off and on over the next few weeks because I don't want to wait until the last minute. Rushing to finish swaps is NO fun!

How's everyone else doing with cutting? Where are you? Whatcha doing?

Mariposa 02-10-2012 07:59 PM

Hi quiltinghere! I myself spent a bit of time today cutting some squares. I gotta keep going! ;)

judy_68 02-11-2012 11:34 AM

I worked on my today. Still have more to do but will hopefully finish in the next couple of days.
Judy
