Usually, people join right up to the LAST minute - and some people get so overwhelmed that they have to drop out! Also, some of us might decide to do a 2nd or even 3rd block toward the last minute. You never know! And if we do more than 1 set, it doesn't matter much if we get a duplicate block - they're so small, that they won't wind up next to each other anyway. |
Love the blocks Esqmommy and Buddys Mom ! Great fabric choices. I am going in the morning to get mine , wash them and then get busy sewing  I am getting so excited !
Klue let me try another practice block of the C-1 tomorrow, when I am not so tired and cut the fabric more uniform as opposed to cutting strips as I went along  and see how it looks. To be honest I have never done the foundation before and was reading a book on my lap and trying to get it done to see how they worked :? Sharon |

Just wanted to show an example of coffee and tea dying.
I made this block as a center for another project. Didn't realize until it was completed that I had put one fabric in backwards. I am sure that you will see the result of that error <g>. Anyway, I will just post the pictures so you can see how the fabric got changed. tea - - I couldn't fine the coffee one, but it was not as bright as the first one, and not as dark as this one fabric backwards |

I have most of my blocks for the swap completed, YEA! Today I've been working on my DJ quilt 4 more blocks done!!!!! That makes a total of 65 blocks and 2 triangles completed. I can't wait for the sew along to begin in January.

i've only touched the surface but it looks like they have a bunch of variations on the DJ blocks and some of them are different to be more like the original jane block (brenda the author of the book didn't do truly accurate line drawings) while some of them have seams added to make the easier to piece. the software costs a bit more than the book but if you can only have one and wish to have help and ease with making the quilt, hands down buy the software. joannes has it on sale and the shipping is free. |
wow you guys are doing such an awesome job.
we were in Newport, RI at the jazz festival so i won't have a chance to do the jane blocks until tomorrow. i can't wait to get a crack at them. this is just so exciting. i've even starting putting together a game plan for the sew along - i hope to do 1 week off every 6 weeks so people can catch up or take a break and then i want to put easy blocks in June, July, and August that way people can enjoy the summer but still get some work done. i also plan on putting up a tute on my method of applique - i think its a little different than most people on the forum use. i explained the method to pam and she used it on the americana quilt she posted yesterday and she was overall happy with the results and found it to be user friendly. her and i chatted in PM yesterday and she'll add her tips and comments on the applique tute when i post it in jan for the jane blocks. |
KLue, check out this blog...I have only looked at a few of her entries, but I imagine this is similar to what we'll be doing, only instead of a blog, it will be thru this forum. I wonder if there's anything we can do with the board to keep it under control - seems like it might become an unwieldy sort of thread. I wonder if Patrice has any input??

yes, she has done a nice job of posting her method for the blocks.
we will have to talk with admin/mod about how they want the sew along to operate on the forum. its a big project that will last 12-16 months and maybe its something that they would like to keep as a perm record on the forum so that new comers can just follow the directions to make a jane. once we come together as a group in oct/nov and hammer out the final details of what everyone would like to get from the project we can contact admin/mods and let them know the scope of the project and ask for guidance on how they wish for us to proceed. |
I like the idea of a permanent record of the sew along. I am just starting to try this out and will buy the software hopefully within the next couple of months. I know I am not ready now for a sew along so maybe I could check that out later at my own speed-slow.

I agree.
Everyone is doing such beautiful work and we have so many more people doing this than I thought we would, which is great. Sew, I'm going to take A-8 as a 3rd block. Bettia |

I've mailed my D-13 blocks - Field of Dreams. The picture's colors are not good - they are actually BURGUNDY & FOREST GREEN.

Earlier, I attributed the freezer paper method of paper piecing to the WRONG person - Judy Matthieson who does fantastic Mariner's Compass Quilts originated this method. There's a tutorial on this site:
http://www.twiddletails.com/store/in...age=page&id=21 The only differences in the way I do it: I actually make templates of each piece - less waste of fabric. If the fabric doesn't want to stick to the freezer paper, I pin piece #1. |

here's my L5 Block.
i did it by paper piecing. i've taken a pic of the back so you can see that the type of paper i use doesn't leave one scrap of paper behind. it removes with 100% ease without any fear of taking out any of the stitiches. another plus side to this paper is its translucent so you can see right thru it and you know everything thats going on underneath. i buy it from this website http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...3&Item_ID=1087 L5 Front L5 Back - not one scrap of paper to tweeze. Paper Foundation, see how easy it is to see the lines on my mat. |
WOW JoanneS!! they look great, and so fast

Klue, Those are beautiful (front & back)

Hi Klue,
I am wondering if there is still time to join the DJ Christmas exchange. I missed this whole thing as we were camping for about 10 days and only been home this week. I've not been online hardly at all. Please let me know if there is still time. I have the book and will choose my blocks if there is. Muriel |
You guys all ROCK! Your blocks are beautiful, and I'm really enjoying following this thread.
