Yep, I'm behind reading this thread, so I just saw this. It made me think of this dish I'm trying to figure out a way to get everyone to want next week. The man & I love it, but Dusty says he's not big on it.

Chickadee - those prints are gorgeous - I'm not so much in batiks - but these are really making me change my mind!! They are beautiful!

Elisabrat 08-08-2013 04:11 AM

Those are some very pretty batiks I love them all perfect fall leaf color. The dog and kitty parade always makes me smile they are all so very special to us. I rely on my cats for friendship a lot. Its hard to watch them when they are suffering to be sure so I hope the surgery for your little dog went ok.

Today is a clinic day, not much will get done. I get so pooped out! I might pull my fabrics though. I am going fall for swapping and will have a Halloween ready for an angel runner if need be (please don't make me use it). I hope all of you have a fun fabric playing day and keep up the sharing its awesome. I hope we get some more sign ups but not 10000 ok good shot at getting left off the trade list if there are 10000 my sorting out is NOT that good :) currently we are safe I think under 30 so I can work with that for sure 40 even. How these swap leaders can do 90 is amazing to me. That is a lot of keeping track .. more than the brat has ever done.. so feel free to sign up we would love to have you.. closer to 90 I might kick myself however!

Retired Fire Chief 08-08-2013 04:49 AM

Oksewnsew, I have a ton of blackberries coming on so hit the road and come load up! I didn't get around to making the pie yesterday, ended up helping DH plant pine trees - and we live in the middle of the woods! So, picking rhubarb today and making that pie. Picking enough to take to the neighbors and my berry picking friend too.

AliciaH 08-08-2013 06:26 AM

Chickadee - Those blocks are GORGEOUS!

Retired Fire Chief - I think if she could, Oksewnsew, aka my Mom, would hit the road and come for pie! ;-) She's the one who got ME in to quilting, and twisted my arm to join this swap too. LOL

MartiMorga 08-08-2013 08:01 AM

Being new to this - I must be missing something. Is there more than 1 posting of fabrics chosen? Are there posting of pattern ideas? Am I missing a link to see more pictures?

Chasezzz 08-08-2013 08:10 AM

Hi, MartiMorga, and welcome!! Love having new swappers. Back in post #135, the hostess/grand schemer of this swap included a link to a lot of pictures of fall table runners. (Your post is #168). This is the link: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...rs&FORM=HDRSC2

The couple of pictures of batik blocks and some batik fabrics over the last day or so have been idea-floating. We all tend to get excited about thinking what we might do and the fabrics we've found that might work. However, many of us won't even get the fabric and pattern figured out until after we get our swap partner's name and PM the partner to discuss what they like/think would be fun. Hope that helps! Karen

Elisabrat 08-08-2013 09:44 AM

Karen well said and thank you! Also if you type in fall quilts on pinterest.com they have some great ideas there also if only there was time to make them all! I like to see what colors have been chosen and what patterns other people use so I can say yeah that works for me or heck no.. not into that at all. Saves unnecessary cutting. As you can see some people are very specific NO Halloween or pumpkins and others not so much so hopefully when you PM the partner you are given you can get a better sense of what they might like and work from there. We have a lot of sign ups everytime I turn on the computer one more! two more! yipppeee. We just finished a summer table runners swap which you might want to check into just for a sense of the types of runners we have been making. Some are hexigons and table toppers a few were really long narrow ones and the rest in between. It helps to know if your partner is thinking for the coffee table or for the end table or dinner table.. or maybe just to hang it on the wall. All I truly ask is you keep in contact with your partner when your given one and that you do the best job you can do. Just read the instructions at the beginning and if your game.. read the last few pages to see what everyone is thinking or sharing.

'Brat/Linda...I thought you were off to clinic today?? Hoping the fact you are here means it was not a bad day. Here is the trouble you got me into with that sale site just over 30 yards for $81 (including two yards of 108" quilt backing at $6/yd) plus $15 shipping. Delivery guy told DH "don't know what it is but it sure is heavy." DH is being very patient as that was third package arriving for me today...best stay away from sale fabric!

Lynnie25 08-08-2013 12:54 PM

Chasezzz, wow that is a bargain of fabric you got there. Love the turkey fabric !!

Chasezzz 08-08-2013 01:34 PM

Yes Lyn, I am thinking there might be a fall tabletopper in those turkeys' future!

jillnjo 08-08-2013 03:21 PM

I'm still thinking about a fall runner and looking at pictures and magazines. I have that same turkey fabric ordered!

DustysMomma 08-08-2013 05:02 PM

Ooh, pretty! This one is screaming, begging to live at my house, lol.

so is this one:

I love the contrast of bright colors with black, and fall colors are no exception!

I love this one too!

http://www.emblibrary.com/el/elproje...ge=sh_091208_d

Elisabrat 08-09-2013 04:27 AM

oh face it girl you LOVE them all :)

that turkey fabric is MY turkey fabric. I have this stupid thing with turkeys I used to feed them every day in CA and I have for years collected these ceramic planters (fifties sixties stuff) you know the old ftd flower vase things and well the turkeys are my absolute favorites lol. So when I saw that fabric I had to have it.

Clinic is for dialysis its three days a week four hours a shot. this week its four days. oh so much fun. lucky thing about it is: one they invented it or I wouldn't be here. Two its not very painful a couple quick pokes with a big needle and you just sit there and either nap or watch tv. I can't nap.. my blood pressure is low to begin with napping puts me in seriously low blood pressure (60's) and well they get all cranky when that happens. See I run about 90/50 normally so its a fine line from ok low to uh oh. Other than that.. its not a hard thing. You just end up tired. There the lesson on clinic for the day.

I am leaning towards the colors that are in that bright batik that was posted (its on the lefts side) that vibrant green and red and gold.. yup those are saying make me make me! I have a grand collection of oranges and yellows to pick from in batiks. I am however not terrifically into the black with it yes its striking but it goes with nothing in my home so I will make sure my partner would like or not like that in theirs. phew.

KGoodhand 08-09-2013 04:30 AM

Wow! So many beautiful choices in that first link!!! I may need to save that search! I saw a couple that look like I could make them!!!

Chasezzz 08-09-2013 04:40 AM

We have wild turkeys roaming our neck of the woods here in Florida...don't feed them but always enjoy seeing them. We see the toms during mating season (and occasionally get treated to them strutting full plumage) but usually what we have walk though the yard are the hens. High count for one time in the yard--27 hens. (You may be surprised we have turkeys here...we also have black bear, which most people don't realize. We see bear fairly regularly, even have one large male that roams our neighborhood as his home turf. He doesn't bother us or we him, but we put out the trash just before pickup.)

Not sure how I'll use the turkeys in a runner. Also got an F4 (my monthly free one from LQS) that might be the basis for my tabletopper. Or maybe I'll make two!

tlambing 08-09-2013 08:32 AM

It's FRIDAY!!! This has been a very busy week :/ I'm hoping to have all of my work done early today and then make a run to a couple of LQS to find fabric for this swap as well as the FQ swap. I also need to find border fabric for a couple. The hunt is on :) Hope I'm lucky and find what I want....we are having a UFO party at the Rec. center tomorrow evening and I hope to get started/finished with a few things! Can't wait til I get my partners name "Chomping at the bit" to get started.

Have a GREAT wknd everyone!

dabbler312 08-09-2013 09:08 AM

tlambing - I loved your paper pieced blocks - the colors are spectacular. It's actually very similar to what I was going for on the table topper I did for the previous swap. I have had many compliments on the red white & blue that I received from you - you do such beautiful work. Good luck with completing a few of your UFO's.

I've also have received many compliments on the table topper you made for me! My bestie wants to steal it :) I'm thinking of chaining it down;)
Thanks so much for the compliments. The New York beauty blocks are spectacular, though they are paper pieced and it feels like cheating. But I LIKE it.
Finally finished a little girl quilt I've been working on, but not feeling confident enough to tackle the FMQ, so off to the longarm lady it goes. I love the flower I appliquéd to dress it up :) (I traded FQ's with someone on the East coast who wasn't feeling these Riley Blakes)

dabbler312 08-09-2013 01:16 PM

It's very girlie and reminds me of shabby chic - you did a great job stitching down the applique, it's not easy doing that on curves while keeping your stitches even. I've tried paper piecing a couple of times - I have a mariner's compass that I messed up on one of the flying geese so put it away - thanks for the reminder to bring it out and finish - project is from my first/only paper piecing class. I love how sharp points are in paper piecing. It will be fun seeing your finished project.

mom-6 08-09-2013 02:43 PM

So do I or don't I post a teaser of the blocks I've gotten done so far ???

jaba 08-09-2013 02:46 PM

Absolutely, we love pictures!!!!!!

jillnjo 08-09-2013 03:28 PM

Dusty, I like all 3 of the tablerunners. I think if you used a gorgeous print you could showcase it in those first 2 patterns. Fall prints seem to be the most outstanding to choose from! But, maybe that's because I love those colors anytime.

DustysMomma 08-09-2013 06:18 PM

Yep, that's true. I'm the kind of person who likes to "live out loud" so stark contrasts scream out to me. White? Eh, it's OK, but put some bright colors with black and watch it POP! Unfortunately I don't have any gorgeous fall prints in my collection. However, I am making a trip to Atlanta next weekend, so I'm going to see what I can find while I'm up there. The man is going to Cincinnati early Thursday morning until Friday afternoon, so since he's got to leave so early for the airport Saturday to fly to Korea, I suggested meeting him up there with his suitcase and spending the night.

He told me to pick anywhere I'd like to go to dinner Friday night. I'm leaning toward Fogo De Chao. I love that place! Then I'm meeting a bunch of my friends from my single days for lunch on Saturday. (He met most of them after we started dating, but they really aren't his kind of people, lol.) Somewhere in the middle of all that, or after it, I'm going fabric shopping for this swap and a couple other little things I need.

Oh, almost forgot, the new Home Decor swap is up! http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...ml#post6225348

OHHH ALL MY FAVORITE THINGS! MINE MINE MINE! (oh maybe not but it sure is pretty).

I am going to try once again to post pics this time on a different computer we will see what happens. wish me luck!
whooo whooo it worked! this is a wall hanging alaska alice made me last year. I love the fall colors all batiks and I keep it up all year round :)
this last pic is a photo of my sewing room, I mean dining room. Jaba helped me fold and sort things so I can find them now. I took that for you Yosamitesa. You see not everyone has a big space to work in either so its cut and put the rest up, cut put the rest up or I would drown in things. I do not do clutter well and this is as cluttered as I have been in many many years. It kills me. (flopping over on the floor like a fish out of water! help).

next are some of the lovely little fabrics I picked up at the craftconn.com sale.. oh my was it fun.

Elisabrat 08-10-2013 02:37 AM

Rise and Shine!! Its a beautiful day. Actually yesterday started out a bit grey in the sky and ended up that way but the temps were lovely all day long. Today is supposed to be a tad warmer 82 or so, but the thunder heads always bring a bit of relief in the late part of the day. I can do that. Last night I cut three boom blocks so today will try to finish those. Dumb clinic today so I might be tired again. Maybe no new veggies/fruit to bring home so no canning (phew). love the end results just tires me out. shut up right? how lucky I am to receive such a bounty. sheesh.

I wanted to tell all of you my good friend Dustysmomma has a new holiday home decor swap going. I am praying some of you jump over and join this one too what the heck! I want to trade an apron with someone uh ok I need a new apron with a big pocket .. and well what a chance.. hint hint.. or a tree skirt.. truly you must NEED some holiday item too say a Valentine wall hanging? or a .. something you can gift at Christmas... come on. TRADE with me! oh first you have to sign up. lol. (shameless plug brought to you once again by the Brat but this is for a good cause! ME)

DustysMomma 08-10-2013 09:48 PM

What cool fabrics! I should take photos of my sewing room too & share with you. I think you have more room than I do girl!.

As for my new swap, don't forget, it's just just any old holiday swap, it's a "pick any holiday" swap! I don't care if you make up a holiday or want something for your favorite awareness day, just be creative and have fun & most of all, SWAP! :D

Yosamitesa 08-10-2013 10:50 PM

Aaaahhhhh!!! So, some family should be banned from contacting me, like EVER! Had a cousin message me on Facebook that I never talk to. Christmas card only relationship here. She said a little birdy told her I make quilts. Really??? You never see my pictures??? So I responded that I do. So, she goes on this long story about how she REALLY wants one for Christmas. She said her husband priced around and got a custom quote of $450. I should have left it alone...I should of walked away...however, I didn't. I engaged her further. What was I thinking?!?!? I responded with what size and what are you thinking? Now, this was more to see if the price was a good one or if I should tell her to keep shopping around. Her response actually made me shake my head and if someone would make it for $450 do it!!! Her response, "We'll, I want a good size...at least a twin...just fleur de lis and warm colors. The (last name) Family maybe in the middle. I've never had one before so I don't know what to say. Lol. Something like this but with fleur de lis and our family name in the center. And I like warm reds, teals, browns and tans." The picture is just a patchwork quilt. --For not know what she wants, she is VERY specific. My thought. That $450 is a great price if they find the fabs you want. My response, "Fleur de lis fabric is REALLY hard to find. With the embroidery in the middle, the price for the custom quilt is actually really reasonable." She goes on to tell me she has heard of a shop 2 hours from her that she has heard carries fleur de lis fabric that she could check out for me. I told her, "Fabric runs about $12-15/yard right now. I've been collecting fleur de lis fabric for 3 years and don't have enough for a quilt. Having specific colors for the fleur de lis makes it even harder to find. I don't have any in those colors that you want nor have I seen them." Now I know I exaggerated the price per yard a little, but not much. This set her back a bit. I got, "Hmmmm....Well maybe just have them around the embroiderd center piece. What colors do u have." Ok, so MY mistake for telling her I've been collecting them for 3 years and not saying that they are for a quilt for myself. I take responsibility for that one. I called my mom and together came up with a response to get me out of making this quilt. My response to her was, "Right now I don't feel I have the time or the skill level to complete what you wants and would be happy with. At this time I just can't do it. I work full time and having a 3 year old and being VP of our civic club I don't have a lot of time to make them right now anyways." I went about my night working on my stash organizing and cleaning. Once I finished I hopped on Facebook to check in and got a response from her...it floored me..."Sorry to take up your time. Didnt mean to bother you." Really?!?!? Didn't mean to bother me...REALLY?!?!? So now here it is almost 2am, I'm still up fuming and I have to call mom in the morning to fill her in to prepare for if my aunt calls because I wouldn't do this for her darling granddaughter. My mother-in-law told me to tell her to go buy the fabric, take a class and make it herself. So...anyone else have family that just doesn't understand ALL that we put into this?!?!?

Sorry for the rant...now tomorrow I'm washing my batiks and going to start cutting this runner out as well as 2 baby quilts.

Quilty hugs and love! Going to try and sleep.

Elisabrat 08-11-2013 04:54 AM

people are amazing aren't they? those who don't quilt do not have any idea of the time and energy that goes into the making of these things let alone the love. If your not feeling it do not do it. See how easy that is!

Its a beautiful morning here in Cody Wyoming. I absolutely am in love with this area. It was such a terrific move. Did I mention my DH got a job!!! Thanks to Jaba she told someone she knows he was looking the guy said call him and next thing you know he is starting work on Monday. I couldn't be happier. Now I wont have to throw him over the bridge right at the end of the road.. its sooo close to. lol. We went for killer Chinese with Jan and Bill last night, had a great monster margarita before hand.. and came home feeling like an over stuffed turkey! wish I had some leftovers for breakfast! guess its fried rice making time tonight. I want more! I have just a couple things to do this morning its cleaning day, a quick run to the market and then sewing! What are you working on today ladies?

DustysMomma 08-11-2013 05:00 AM

I don't have family like this, but I'm so thankful that I can be blunt with my best friend. She sends me links to things all the time "could you make this?" Well yeah, I probably could, but most of what she sends me are clothes, and that's not my thing. I mean, I feel comfortable making pillowcase dresses and bloomers, but that's about the extent of it. Most of the time I just end up telling her that I wouldn't know where to find a pattern in her daughter's size, even though I know I probably have one on my pintrest boards for baby sizes. Well, here comes my potential downfall: her brother and SIL are having a baby, due on Thanksgiving. I'm wondering how many outfits she's going to go look at on my kid's clothes board and want now. I put those pins on there for when I'm feeling adventurous in the future, maybe for a grandchild who if it doesn't fit right, it won't matter so much. I am about to make a car seat quilt and a baby blanket for her though. Of course, she gets the best friend discount. Her brother & SIL are very sweet people, so I'm going to look at it as 1 of the two pieces if my shower gift for them and only charge her for the materials for the other one because of who it's for. But, she does things for me too, so I don't feel bad about doing it this way. :)

I went yesterday and learned how to use the embroidery feature on my new machine, so today is a sew-a-rama day! I'm planning to find fabrics for this swap next weekend in Atlanta, so that means I can work on some other projects today. My skin condition is much better now, but I am finally being sent to the dermatologist on Thursday. That saga is another long, tear-filled story. It's hard to get relief when you're constantly told your condition isn't bad enough for them to be worried with it. 30 years of them being undecided what it is from one doctor's visit to the next (dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema) combined with other things in my life have really made it take its toll on me. I got my new machine & haven't really used it much because it's been bad on my hands again. But, as long as I have to work full time, stress will continue to perpetuate the cycle.

Well, I'm off to finish clearing out my email box and then it's sewing time!

Elisabrat 08-11-2013 06:18 AM

dustysmomma any chance you can go to part time work? do you have to work full time? or take a leave of absence from the daily work world. Obviously you have skills that make you very employable. quit. Sometimes one has to look at the value of the dollar vs the value of health and sanity. You only live once. It would be lovely if you could find some freedom in your day and some pleasure also to go with it. Hugs girl you will find the help you need. have faith :)

Yosamitesa 08-11-2013 07:07 AM

Sorry about my rant. I'm just tired of people not realizing how much work, time and money is spent on supplies. I'm going to blame my long lasting pissiness on hubby eating the last of the chocolate. I'm better today. Got donuts for breakfast.

Dustymomma i hope things get easier for you and you can be ready with the no word. ;)

Going to pull out fabric and start cutting soon. Maybe I can get most of a baby quilt top done today. Quilty hugs!!!

DustysMomma 08-11-2013 07:26 AM

I wish. I'll PM you Elisabrat...

sapdoggie 08-11-2013 07:46 AM

Morning Brat- glad you got to have a great dinner. Love your sewing space. Mine is spread between the kitchen and livingroom -moved the round table to the sunporch. Put up two four foot tables in the kitchen. Ironing board is in the livingroom so I can get some exercise walking back and forth- LOL. Also, the spray starch and sizing makes the tile floor in the kitchen way too slippery. Had a room to myself, but the grandkids came along :D

Dustysmomma- so sorry you have to deal with the skin stuff. It is amazing how long it takes to get some medical professionals to listen and act. Not bashing them, they are busy and can't know everything, but some are better at being detectives than others. Hope you can get some relief soon and get back to the fun stuff. I also understand about the not being able to not work. I finally was able to retire last December. Makes for tight months, but the stress relief is worth it.
Clothes for kids may not be your favorite, but you could do some burp cloths or maybe a patchwork bib or two- uses up a few scraps and doesn't take long.

Yosamitesa- saying "no" is an option and a good one sometimes. Just as we learn how to say no, someone comes along and tries to burst the bubble of confidence and honesty and make us feel bad. Well poo to them . You just keep on keeping on being your great self.

sapdoggie 08-11-2013 07:51 AM

Now who is bringing the CHOCOLATE to go with the fabric viewing ???? No touching or petting though !!!!! :D

Loving the fall colors. It has been raining here in AR but got some sunshine yesterday.

Heard there was SNOW on Pikes Peak yesterday:shock:

I had best get on to my baby quilts for the day. I must get them finished so I can pull out the fall fabrics.

MartiMorga 08-11-2013 08:59 AM

Wow....I had a good 5 pages to read to "catch up".. Thank you so much Karen and Brat for clue-ing me into the great pictures of table runners! Where to start - so many are fantastic and keeps my mind reeling. I haven't even begin to dig into my stash to see what I do and do not have, but fall colors are my favorites, you would think I must have a FEW! Would also be anxious to know what would be your favorite, a "traditional" or a more "modern" in pattern and colors.

My best friend, who is an only child, says she loves being able to "pick" her family. (without all of the kinship drama)
Good for you speaking up and not giving in, for the sake of family Yo.
My adult niece, who I love dearly has asked for a quilt, I told her eventually I would do one for her but, I had to feel it, be inspired first :) I'm getting there. A cousin, much like yours Yo asked me to fashion a Christmas quilt for his family, they would "pay" for it. $60.00 should be enough right? UM NO!

Sad to hear of all the aches and pains. It is so awful to not feel ourselves. I am such a wimp that a little thing like poking my finger at work leaves me off for a few days. I'm not a good patient.

On an exciting note UFO night was really successful. I squared all 120 blocks for my Kaffe Gemstones quilt and got all of the rows put together! 11 seams and I am finished with the top, sans borders. It is beautiful! Hope Hubby will enjoy it as much as me. This one is going on our bed.

This is a pic of it before sewing the rows. It will finish king size for our queen size bed.
