Sorry about the wet quilt.Hope it will cooperate with you so you can finish,

Anytime sapdoggie, be glad to share. Sounds like your dinner and movie date was great, really nice to have those kind of friendships. Makes for pleasant evenings. The quilt didn't get wet but had about 6 yards of queen size batting that went to the garbage. Seems like it's all dried out this morning so I can move all the furniture back in its place.

Elisabrat 08-04-2013 06:31 AM

Morning ya' all! I hope today finds you in good form. I am feeling perky which is a good thing. Every other day I have dialysis and well its nap time for le brat all day long after. This is my weekend Sun and Monday so I am like this energizer bunny :) imagine me with energy!!!

I love the sneak peak fabrics OMG I want your pumpkin fabric pick me pick me for that runner! oh wait I do the picking lol. That wouldn't be fair. We have a great group of swappers signed up 29 at this moment and still more to come I hope. Its nice to see so many new ideas and concepts .. if I sewed everything I pinned on pinterest well my house would be filled to the brim with things. and I would never sleep. ever. I wish on the paper piecing items but I need a physical class to learn it in. I tried the Carol Doak (is it Doab?) video but it didn't work for me. I want someone to come hold my hand while I figure it out. The points you can end up with are amazing and they make me drool when I see the elaborate designs that are out there. sigh... piecing the old fashioned way is my big style. lol and stitch in the ditch.

On a dinner note I made this dish I saw on food channel yesterday. Spaghetti and meatballs but the guy used turkey, beef and pork (tiny amount) and a simple tomato sauce on top. The recipe called for bending some broth, garlic, parsley and roasted eggplant and adding it to the meat to keep it most. no eggplant here so I roasted zucchini and they came out delicious! super moist. big 4 inch meatballs, browned them, then roasted them then added them to the sauce. I scored. Steve ate a HUGE plate of them. Guess whats for dinner tonight too? lol. love those nights where you just turn on the stove and bingo dinner is ready :) oh oh and we are having this huge salad to go with it compliments of Jaba's tremendous garden. Zucchini! Cucumbers! Fresh onions! and I have put up some of those marvelous raspberries she shared. I am one lucky duck here reaping the rewards of all their hard work. Reminds me of that book the little red hen.. she did all the work and everyone wanted to eat her bread.. uh oh.. don't read that Jaba! I would if I could come help. Next year maybe a patch in the garden for me! (she has a big garden).

terriamn 08-04-2013 07:33 AM

I took a paper piecing class but the pattern I chose had way to many tiny pieces and I didn't enjoy it. Later bought Thr Carol Doak book and love making her blocks. Bigger pieces made the difference for me

Hey Brat, good to hear you are feeling good. My husband went through about 6 months of dialysis after his heart transplant and all he could do after was sleep the day away too. God gave us a 2nd miracle, his kidneys came back to life. His transplant doc keeps a close eye on them, he even wrote a paper on Don because he never experienced someone's kidneys coming back like Don's did. I told him they are stubborn German kidneys. Don't want to get too personal but is there a possibility of transplant in your future? Even after I went back to work I took Don to dialysis at 5 each morning and for my lunch hour I picked him up and drove him home and tucked him in bed. He said he didn't mind it, the people at the clinic were super, they put him in a room by himself because if the suppressed immune system, but it was terrible hard to watch him and the other people that were there every Mon, Wed and Fri. Love your neck of the woods, we were in Cody last summer when we went out to our niece's wedding outside Yellowstone. Of course we went to the Cody museum and loved touring the town. I have some great pictures of 2 big antlered deer eating apples in someone's front yard. We stayed at that cute motel that has log cabins, one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. And after the Cody museum I was starving so we asked one of the workers where we could get a good meal. She directed us to the restaurant just as you are coming into town, the one down by the rodeo grounds. I am vegan and wanted something substantial rather than just salad. The chef came up with a super meal and I was one fat little happy camper. So here's too Cody, beautiful place. I would think gardening would be decent there, probably needs a lot of watering? Oh, and don't give up on paper piecing. I just finished 111 blocks for my farmers wife quilt and never would have done it if I didn't have the paper piece patterns. All those little pieces and points came out great when done on paper. I love paper piecing.

What beautiful blocks!!!!!

tlambing 08-04-2013 11:29 AM

Thank you ladies! I love PP now. It's just following lines and everything comes out so crisp and all of the points are sharp. Makes me look like a much better quilter than I actually am :)

lynnie 08-04-2013 12:09 PM

i'm thinking of joining. redgarnet is trying to talk me into it. I ck in with you all the time, it looks like fun. let me see if I can make room in my somewhat busy sewing/quilting/embroidery schedule

Lynnie25 08-04-2013 12:59 PM

tlambing, those PP blocks are so beautiful, look at those gorgeous fabrics.

I am a PP fanatic, most of my projects are made this way now, although I use a very lightweight interfacing instead of paper as I don't have the patience to pick the paper off afterwards.

jillnjo 08-04-2013 01:20 PM

Those blocks are fantastic! I paper piece quite a bit, but never a large quilt yet. I also use lt wt interfacing, cause I detest the time it takes getting all the flying paper pieces out of the seams!
Am thinking about going to the kitchen and stirring up some home made ice cream, as our youngest daughter and her family are coming over this evening. Hubby brings the idea up quite often. He is willing to crush the ice that I freeze in gallon milk containers and tend it while it freezes. What flavor do you think? He always prefers vanilla, which is SO creative-:(-so he can dump all the flavors on the top. Had a perfect day today.

mom-6 08-04-2013 01:53 PM

Jillnjo - have you ever tried Big Red ice cream? Or is Big Red available where you live?

jillnjo 08-04-2013 02:25 PM

No, never heard of Big Red ice cream. Is it a mix to freeze in an electric freezer? What flavor would big red be, or is that the brand name?

Elisabrat 08-04-2013 04:44 PM

Evening everyone! gorgeous day and as predicted I had a grand day. I finished PHEW this top for the round robin I am in it stumped me for about 2 weeks ughhh but it works and I am more than happy. even with all my errors. lol. I hope the one that comes to me next is ready for oh a busy round like.. stripes. lol. long ones not short ones double lol. I am ready for a breather! Tonight I start a doll quilt and I am in business again! yippee!

I have an extra swapper for my fq's so I will have even more fall fabrics to chose from in the swap. I am mailing mine on Monday who knows maybe hers will come fast too? yippppee. see it is my lucky day. that and we are having spaghetti meatball leftovers and salad so no labor what so ever. gives me even more sewing time.

I think the soil is very loamy here in Cody. Jans veggies are in heaven and with all the alfalfa fields and hay fields obviously they are growing something. water is key the wind drys things out I imagine rather well but we do get afternoon thunderstorms and often a bit of short hard rain to go with it. It truly pretty out here isn't it? God's country to be sure. What the heck show some more fabric peaks feel free, go ahead, no charge honest! POST em and we will respond!

Those paper pieced blocks are stunning. Why I love paper pieced blocks. Too bad I think they wont be in MY trick book any year soon. I should probably take something more basic first. I am more or less self taught with oodles of help here from the ladies. One class 14 yrs ago doth not make an expert.

Kidneys I am on the list in CA and going to try to get on the list out here also. I hope for one truly I do. I had a liver transplant last April so when all the goodies when on 'vacation' as I say they had hoped the transplant would get the kidneys going.. it didn't :( but I am alive. This is a gift. I am thankful and waiting patiently. even napping while I do it some days :)

mom-6 08-04-2013 05:55 PM

Big Red is a variety of soda very popular in central Texas. I think it may be made by Dr Pepper. It is similar in taste to cream soda.

Lynnie25 08-04-2013 06:37 PM

Yummo jillnjo, I can remember going to my grandmother's house when I was a child and she made the best home-made icecream ever - too bad she was a rude and grumpy lady who wouldn't let us kids into the house - but the twice yearly trips were bearable if we got the icecream :)

I just might pull out the stack of tablerunner/tabletopper patterns I have stashed away and break into one for this swap. I have so many patterns bought over the years which haven't even been opened let alone been stitched into anything worthwhile LOL

Elisabrat 08-04-2013 07:48 PM

oh you should pull them out .. opportunity to try something new! I am ready to enjoy all your hard work! anyone on the fence about joining should check out the last couple table runner swaps and see all the beauties that have been whipped up. amazing is what I say!

JuanitaBean 08-04-2013 09:53 PM

tlambing like your PP. I'm giving it a try not sure if I like it or not seam to take a lot more time. I don't like the paper part. Lynnie25 How do you use interfacing?

JuneBillie 08-04-2013 10:46 PM

Such beautiful blocks.

JuanitaBean, I use a non-iron vilene (that's what it is called here in Aus) and it is lightweight. I draw my paper piecing pattern onto the vilene, then piece as usual. Instead of tearing the paper out, I leave it in and quilt as normal. I have machine and hand quilted quilts done this way.

Elisabrat 08-05-2013 03:16 AM

Good Morning and having just red a few of the posts I am ready and willing to have a cream soda now. I haven't had one in quiet a while oh oh make it a float! now that would be a marvelous way to wake up instead I await the coffee pot. Hurry up, its like that old Mervyns add. OPEN OPEN OPEN.. for me its DRIP DRIP DRIP.

Yesterday I was a moron! I dropped my hooked little razor that I use to take out seams its way faster than the little seam ripper well.. when I dropped it instead of letting it hit my skirt I instantly grabbed it! it impaled itself right into the center of my palm. Then wise one that I am I instantly pulled it straight out. Its hooked. what was I thinking!!! so now I will remember this I think for quiet a while. sigh.. the not so smart things I do at times.

Are leaves or pumpkins more popular?? survey says????

jillnjo 08-05-2013 05:11 AM

Well, I couldn't say which is more popular! Both are so perfect for fall themes. Leaves do come in lots of colors, though and I've never seen purple, green, pinkish.....ect. pumpkins! Pumpkins are always great right through Thanksgiving dinner. The colors of fall, such an array of beauty.

While we're waiting...I thought I'd share the friendship block quilt I just sashed last night.
Now What shall I border it in?

It's Sue Zipkin Garden water color from a few yrs ago. Looks great in person. Soft like each block is a bloom in the garden.

klgls 08-05-2013 07:30 AM

tlambing - your blocks are gorgeous!!! I might have to take a second look at PP - and I want to learn appliquing - I should have started quilting at a much younger age!! :D

tlambing 08-05-2013 08:03 AM

Thanks for all of the compliments. I had only tried PP one other time on my own before this class. With the mystery of PP solved, I think I would be able to follow just about any PP pattern. You really should give it a try. Once your brain wraps around it, it's great!

Leaves or pumpkins..........good question, I think they are equal in popularity.

How is your had doing today???

Cindy60545 08-05-2013 11:42 AM

I think I'll opt for pumpkins, the cloth I ordered came in today & that's what it is. Super cute panels!

Lynnie25 08-05-2013 12:58 PM

Leaves, I love autumn (fall) when trees are turning and the leaves are falling, think it would have to be my favourite season. And then it turns into winter :(

I have so many Lisa Moore patterns, wonder if I can do one of those in fall colours.

createfourpaws 08-05-2013 01:05 PM

I can't wait for my new accuquilt dies to come in, just bought the fall melody and a pumpkin one that has 3 different pumpkins on it. Joann's seemed to have the better price, they were marked down 40%. So I am going to be doing some applique on mine for this swap.

Elisabrat 08-05-2013 02:44 PM

oh let me say Yosemetisa, I want your runner fabric! I always drool over her batiks.. what a pretty combo and that would be fall just fine for me :)

Tlambing love your theme fabric for your friendship swap. the cat block is the Bomb! my sis keeps trying to get me to have her cut my die cuts on her machine but you know that means a whole lot of applique in store for me. ugho. I like fusible with some blanket stitch no big fat giant projects with it! big fat ie means more than one 12.5 inch block lol.. lazy booger huh? I am just a regular pieced quilt kinda girl. they seem to hold up to lots of washes which I have yet to find applique to do. of course I rarely hand wash either :)

jillnjo 08-05-2013 03:06 PM

Yosemetisa, lovely fabrics for fall!

kiffie2413 08-05-2013 03:09 PM

Sorry about your hand brat...hope you're better today. Love the batiks yosamitesa...beautiful quilt top tlambing! As far as the border with all the pretty colors in the blocks that's a hard choice! Blue...purple...red....um...???.. Yep, I am a lot of help, eh??!!
I reckon if I have to pick leaves or pumpkins leaves will win by a slim margin...Autumn is my fave time of the year...especially the years we actually have an Autumn!! The last few years it has been hot and dry here in the Texas panhandle area...and then we will have a quick very cold snap...and right back to hot and dry...Seriously the temp can change here by + or - 50 degrees in less than 24 hours! I so miss having all of "the seasons", with an extra long Autumn...
K
PS I especially love the Fall fabrics that have mettalic accents, like these:

I'd say go for a darker color, maybe the purple or maroon.

As for leaves or pumpkins, I'd say pumpkins for my house. :)

snownannie 08-06-2013 12:52 AM

I'm in for this swap. I do like cutesy Halloween. One of my favorite holidays. Kids are so cute when they dress up for trick or treating. Don't get many house to house any more. They have more parties around town for them.

Yosamitesa 08-06-2013 05:42 AM

Every have a day where you just don't feel like yourself and you feel like you are watching yourself go through the motions, but you are checked out? Yep...that was me yesterday. Work all day, pick the kiddo up from school, run home to pick up the big kid (hubby), off to my civic club meeting where we actually are discussing giving the 4th of July parade away to another organization, home to work on organizing my stash some more then bed. I had really weird dreams all night and woke up looking for some of the things in my dream that seemed SO real!!! I think the whole giving the parade away to another organization thing really got me. I gave up going to my grandparents in 2012 to go work the stupid parade and make sure things ran smoothly. It would of been the last 4th of July I would of had with my Granddaddy, one of his most favorite holidays because the old coot LOVED firecrackers. Clearing out his belongings is taking a while; however, every so often I come across another box of old firecrackers he had hidden. The fuses are brittle so there is no telling how old these things are. I guess just having a remembrance day...a reflection day...a really missing him day.

So...to make it a better day, I'm gonna kick my shoes off and dance like le brat has NEVER seen me dance before. Better make some room...no telling which direction I'm gonna be dancing in today or how big it may get!!!

Quilty hugs and call, text or visit someone today that you haven't in a while and tell them that you love them, tell them what they mean to you. It could make all of the difference in the world. If someone does it for you today, pay it forward with someone else.

jaba 08-06-2013 06:10 AM

tlambing that's your boom block swap isn't it? I recognize that fabric. Kiffee that's my kind of fabric too. I like the pumpkins that are trimmed in the gold too, stole a FQ from brat yesterday of it. I'm not into the cutsy halloween stuff. Yose- sounds like you had a miserable day, hopefully today will be better. Dance it off! :) Think of things that make you happy.

Yes! Jaba you're right!
I finally got to it. Need a trip to the LQS to find the border. I'm thinking Of going with the "berrie" color that's in the sashing. I'll have to see what I find and what speaks to me :P

oneteappot 08-06-2013 09:35 AM

Yosa sounds like you needed that dance! Keep it going!
I just returned home from having lunch with a young friend that needed a shoulder to cry on and a big hug. She's had a tough time lately. But we had a good lunch and a great visit.
All of this talk of table runners have me jumping in too! This is a new swap for me, and looking forward to it. Hmmm, I just may have to go fabric shopping!
PM will be sent.
Laurel

Belfrybat 08-06-2013 10:29 AM

I just sent a PM. I'd like Autumn only -- no Halloween or pumpkins (jack o' lanterns?). Thank you.
