Darn it. I have this yellow fabric with a little black & white on it that is screaming "I'm a mug rug! I'm a runner! Just make me!" so I was hoping you meant the color, lol.

I doubt I'll get any sewing in today. I'm going to work on one of my side jobs. He needs his quarterly payroll tax forms done by the end of the month, plus I'm hoping he got me a couple missing bank statements. Then I get home & we have to go to one of my boyfriend's colleague's homes for dinner tonight. He's got family visiting from out of town, so we've been invited over for some authentic Indian food. MMM! They're the most Americanized Indian family I've ever seen, but they still eat according to their heritage, and boy am I glad. We have a few friends who are Indian, and it's a big treat when we're invited to their house to eat!

Tomorrow has been dedicated as my sewing day, and next Sunday too! One of the ladies that works for my boyfriend has requested an "arts & crafts day" with me, since I quilt and crochet. It sounded like she was hoping to get some lessons in both. So I sent her a message last night & she may be coming tomorrow to play after she finishes her chores!

tlambing 04-27-2013 10:52 AM

I'm in...pm sent. exciting!!!!!

marytoddliz 04-27-2013 11:08 AM

Well it took me forever to catch up! you ladies are real chatter boxes! I am excited about making a table topper for summer fun. I think I want to make one that would work good on a picnic table. As a center piece. I actually have something in mind, but will be good and wait for my partners name!

We are dealing with my Mom and her wandering off from her home. She has now done it twice! She get her little walker and just walks right out the front door, headed to God only knows where! The first time she called me from her Cell phone about a mile and half from the home. She was at least 2.5 miles from my house still. She said she was headed over for a cup of coffee!@@ URG... The second time the facility called me and said she left again! So I wandered around looking for her, she had walked about a mile to a park and was just sitting on the bench watching the kids.

So tell me what do I do about it? They tested her and she has nothing "wrong" at first they thought Alzheimer's, but yesterday that was ruled out! What to do what to do... Any way don't mean to rag here but thought you wonderful ladies would have some insight as to what we could do? I already go over to visit about every other day and My sister goes on the days I don't, we are so afraid she is going to get hurt! And as much as we would like them to not allow her to leave it is against the law to force someone to stay!

It is like dealing with a 3 year old sometimes.

I know there are devices that can locate people much like the find my iphone app. I would look into that and make it a necklace or bracelet or the like so you can find her. My mother passed in 2006 from Alzheimer's disease. She was bedridden before she came to the point of walking away. I do not wish the disease on anyone. Dementia can cause much of the same type problems and as with my mother...the wrong diagnosis can be given.

My best to you and your family.

sikesjj 04-27-2013 11:28 AM

Can you get a power of attorney? What about those alarms that attach to clothes, they go off when you get out of range I believe. I have seen them of TV, someone used them for their autistic son who liked to wander at night. A different facility where you have to be buzzed out or a pass code. Wandering can be a sign of TIAs (mini strokes), dementia and ALZ. I would see about getting her into see a neurologist, gerantologist, or geriatric psychologist, something is going on to cause her wandering; the first two would be the best bet. I will keep you in my prayers!!!

DustysMomma 04-27-2013 02:54 PM

I agree! The buzzer in & out of the facility is very important if you have a senior who wanders. Where my dad's mom lived, they had someone stationed at a desk in the main sitting room at the front door. They had to buzz you in & out. Where mom's mom was, there was no danger of her wandering off, so that wasn't an issue. Where my boyfriend's grandmother was, until she died at 103, you could get in, but you had to be buzzed out.

ArizonaKAT 04-27-2013 04:16 PM

Does anyone ever watch Raising Hope? I told my kid and grandkids that I'm going to end up just like MawMaw and they'll have to chase me around for a change.

Looking at this from a different point of view, maybe she's just bored and needs something to do that sparks her interest.

The visual of you getting chased around the kitchen by the scorpion just made me laugh...thanks for the story!

Looking like we're hitting 100 degrees on Monday. I'll be sewing EARLY in the morning (garage is still cool). Trying to get my gd home where she belongs . . . and get my sewing room back (with AC).

Found my first hairy desert scorpion just strolling through my kitchen like he owned it. Tried to schew him out the door with an envelope and the stinker chased me all around the kitchen. Every time i pushed him with the envelope he came back at me. Have to start wearing bigger shoes. Just had my flip flops on and he was too big to squish with wimpy shoes. He's gone now though.

RED ALERT (ok BRAT ALERT)
Dustysmomma is doing a survey on theme for her next swap. You dont have to join this swap to vote. I am asking all loyal brat'iacs to pop on over there and vote for seasonal/holiday or batiks so I can join again!!!! (any of you not agreeing with this shush now I am talking first!).. please? por favor? I would hate to have to do a sewing theme or like airplanes or flying machines or something.. so whip on over and raise those numbers. The silly woman has ok'd this AND she wont let me vote 50 times like American Idol does. Or I would :)

berryberry 04-28-2013 10:44 AM

The very first swap I participated in was a Santa block swap. All the blocks had to have Santa on them. Some were pieced Santa faces, and some of blocks were using Santa fabrics. The blocks made a cute quilt. Got me hooked for sure. I voted seasonal.

I read this and started laughing my butt off thinking about my husband. About 3 years ago, he got food poisoning something fierce - his electrolytes were way off and he stared having arrhythmia because of it. The docs in the ER couldn't figure out why things were so screwed up so they put him in overnight for observation. Now, prior to them realizing something was really, really wrong, he got up to the bathroom and passed out inside. This big old 300# doctor tries to get in the bathroom and lift Doogie (my husband who is 240# and 6'4") up all by himself. It worked until Doogie passed out again ON the Dr, they both fell backwards and the Dr ended up ripping the "oh sh!t" handle off the wall with his back.

SO, when they decided to keep him overnight, they put him on a geriatric floor (nurses who can lift) and put a bed alarm under him so the alarms would go off if he got up again.

Talking about being buzzed in & out of facilities made me think of being buzzed in and out of your own bed to pee.

:D That's hilarious! They did that to my ex-husband because he wouldn't stay in bed after he had his stomach removed. He was too worried about going downstairs to smoke...on a smoke-free campus! So, here he goes in his hospital gown, with his IV pump, 3 antibiotics, and a PCA (DIY pain meds on a lock-out timer) pump, sneaking out and going out to stand on the sidewalk in front of the CVS across the street from the hospital so he could smoke! They caught him coming back & put him on a bed alarm too! They told him if he was going to smoke, they had to take down his PCA pump before he could leave the floor. Something to do with what he was on I think. Thing was, what he didn't think about was what a pain it was to get them to come back & hook it back up while he was laying there in misery from going walkabout!

They ended up letting him go early, too early in my opinion, because he wouldn't behave and pitched such a fit about it all.

I met a new quilter when at MIL's the first of the month. She's just joined qb. I'll email and pm her and ask her if she's interested.

BTW Frankie is not a bargaining chip Brat ;)

Aunt Crabby 04-29-2013 01:06 PM

Sounds like a lot of fun. Just sent my PM to Brat! Thanks tlambing for sending me the info

DustysMomma 04-29-2013 03:07 PM

Ooh, a picnic runner. One of these days, I'm going to get out the table that's on the boat & make a set of little mats that fit on it. Well, we actually have 2 the same size, but they're little & I want to say they're odd shapes. I should find some fabric with little ants on it for that, lol.

Speaking of shameless plugs, you should make one for this swap over on the home decor swap too!

Your post made me think of the PARTY ANTS. Not into bugs, but love these bugs.

Elisabrat 04-30-2013 05:08 AM

Oh Dustysmomma I think all your players are here too!

Ants picnic ants about 15 yrs ago I had this great red/white check that had ants (cute ants) walking off with food on the border it was so fun I made a quilt for my nephew with it :) that is one bug fabric I wouldnt mind owning again. I want to say Alexander Henry or Michael ... design. shoot. memory blank! but cute.

I am so happy to have my two new sign ups.. newbies to the quilting board but if they come visit here often they will be old pals in now time at all. This swap is almost near the end for sign ups! which means you get your partners names soon!!! I say our next swap should be ornaments.. get a head start this summer on Christmas presents.. or maybe aprons.. anyone think an apron swap would be a good idea? I use mine ALL the time, messy messy girl here. or placemats! sets of 4.. great gifts also.. hum.. hum.. Placemats are just bigger mug rugs lol so not much to them and less artsy and more color placement I think.. oh ok finish one thing before you flip to the next one.

Hoping everyone has a great day, go poke in your fabrics.. think about all the marvelous combinations you can whip together with what you have in stock.. doesnt take much but it sure is fun :)

Elisabrat 05-01-2013 06:11 AM

Ok Quiet Quilters! There are only four more days for sign ups! Check us out, its a fun swap and I hope you join. Anastasia's table runner swap was the former name. She is taking a break for school and work right now so I am taking the swap at the moment. I was thinking of summer colors the other day as I entered my quilt shop. Oh MY! they had purples and lime green and whites! they had fruits an blenders! they had batiks oh they had batiks.. and I needed all of it. I was thinking aqua and lemon and then oh oh how about that hot coral with a tropical fern.. and I think you know what I am saying. You walk in for ONE thing... and how easily your eyes get distracted by designs and colors.

I hope you walk into your own stash and have the same experience. And say hey this would be perfect for this swap!

come on ladies Sign on up!!! and to those who have signed up how about a sneak peak of possible fabric choices? get everyone excited???

SandyinZ4 05-01-2013 07:05 AM

I am anxious for the partner assigning day to arrive, too. I have two more UFO's to finish and then I start in on my DGD's graduation quilt. Have to have it finished by next May but will be my own design so is going to be a challenge. I may start a new post when I get it started. My idea is based on a coffee cup I received as a gift over 20 years ago.
Before I start in on it, I am going to unload the closet and all the shelves in my sewing room and sort fabric. That way, I will see what I have and do not have in order to make it. I am hoping I will have a nice stash shopping experience. LOL! May take a pic if I can muster the courage. Will have time to make a nice table topper for my yet unknown partner though and will enjoy taking a break to do that! Skiff of snow on ground here this morning. Boo!

There's berries. What else would you expect from berryberry.
Here's some wine motif fabric, too. Who else has some favorites to share/ entice with.

Elisabrat 05-01-2013 06:45 PM

oooohhh I am all about those berries Berry berry!

getting closer and closer...I am so ready to do either a patriotic or a tropical runner.. oh oh I have flowers too and batiks so I guess I am ready :)

tlambing 05-01-2013 07:17 PM

They had fruits in the blender? Where's this shop at? They would get lots of my quilty money, lol!

Elisabrat 05-02-2013 04:48 AM

I approve!! lol I love runners. they make my livingroom.. happier. New colors new designs. Its sort of like a painting you hang on the wall.. leave it in one spot for a long time and you stop seeing it. Move it every six months and suddenly its new again. So put a runner on the table enjoy it then TADA change it out and its all new again even if you have seen that runner before. That is why I love them. I am the same with my dinner table and my side board. Variety!!

Well we are rapidly approaching the end of sign ups. I have made a list already of who has what (pets) who cant have smoke/pets etc and well the list is going to challenge even me. So I will hope I get it all right. I can't guarantee you wont end up with a partner you have had before (I am clueless of who you have had!). I can say you will get a partner!! I hope we get a few more last minute sign ups what the heck come on over!! Sign on up! We have room!! Yahooo!!

Yosamitesa 05-02-2013 05:50 AM

So...BRAT!!! Do we get our names on Monday if sign-up closes Sunday??? Hmmm...guess that would be a lot of work unless you are already pairing us up!!! Oh, I can't wait!!!

Aunt Crabby 05-02-2013 09:32 AM

So excited! I am going thru my stash this weekend to pick out fabrics!
