Well, I admit that my idea was rather ambitious to begin with, and when I put the borders on, it looked like a "hurry up and slam it together", which isn't what I envisioned. So I went back to the drawing board and came up with something a little more jazzy than my original design. I'm almost done, and this time it's going to work!
I did shirk today, I am putting my sewing room together which keeps pulling me away from sewing. Tomorrow I will get my top finished and will be machine quilting the table mat.
I plan on mailing before the week is out.

can I ask what is frustrating you on your quilt tops? I hear seam ripping, seam ripping and wonder is it the combo of fabrics your not feeling? the design? simple is sometimes very nice in fact a lot of the time.. if you post maybe your trouble or write to Teresa or one of your fellow quilters maybe someone can help? glad to offer some advise if you would like two bits from another quilter. I know this is one fun swap. In an effort to keep it fun and light why not work with your partner to come up with something simplier.. one favorite thing not five. that should make it plum easy.. and you will finish on time and mail ON TIME and your work will make you happy and your partner happy. I wish that all of you can finish as best you can. Its all your partner is hoping for too.

I am working on my mothers favorite things quilt top. Each round on the quilt is to represent her favorite flowers. My issue? they don't particularly go together. a big challenge .. I find gorgeous flower fabrics individually but not so much when you dump them on top of each other.. I may have to rethink my drink here on the flowers or be prepared for a hodge podge of stuff in a quilt. if your quilted mat is not working .. figuring out WHY is the biggest challenge then you can move forward. Reduce your challenge ladies and gents. This weekend I know you can make a huge dent on any sewing you have to do. I have seen the work everyone here produces. I know you can do it :)

Oh Boy! I've been there!!! more times than I care to admit. Used to be I'd put it away to come back to later...ha ha
As I've come to terms with my own quilting and creative abilities, I now either refashion it or just start over. I'm so happy to hear you got over that hurdle. Onward and Upward :)
I bet it's going to be beautiful!

jaba 02-08-2014 05:48 PM

Oh yes! I've been there too...to many times than I care to admit!! I do the same thing Teresa, refashion it, to me that's probably a slice and dice, or start over. Worked a little on my partner's quilt for the Quilt for quilter's swap and actually labeled some drawers to finally get each fabric in their own space. Really so I can find it instead of looking 3 or 4 places. Drawer for Valentine's, Halloween, St. Patty's, Patriotic, etc.....I've got to get these fabrics together so I remember where they are and I can find them.

Quilty-Louise 02-09-2014 07:25 AM

For me it seems that my problem is the fabrics just isn't
"talking" to me I have tried a D9P, made 2 blocks and I
didn't like it at all (it wasn't working for the fabrics). Next
I tried just plain ol' blocks no pattern, that wasn't working
for me either.

So I changed fabrics, it is better so far, but still not grabbing
my interest. But I like the fabrics I am working with now so
much more than the last group of fabrics.

skaduzy 02-09-2014 09:15 AM

Hi Patty, I just packed up your table mat and hope to get to the post office tomorrow. There is lots of snow here so I may wait until Tuesday. I will let you know. I guess I forgot about this being Favorite Things but I did use colors you mentioned were in your home. That has to be some kind of favorite...:p.

Ok, here's sneak peek #2.
I'm ready for the binding!! Just don't look too close at my attempt at free motion quilting!

mom-6 02-09-2014 09:28 PM

Sue, I've been carrying yours around in my truck all over the place for the last four or five days. Don't brave the snow on my account! Wait till its safe to drive.

We've had the crazy weather here lately. One of my friends posted on Facebook after this past weeks whatever " the rest of the country gets rain, sleet and snow. Houston gets 'Dippin Dots'".

It looked more like somebody crunched up a bunch of styrofoam packing peanuts all over the steps and the windshields. Lol!

Yesterday was yukky cold, feel like noses and toes are gonna freeze, today it got up to 70•. Crazy, crazy.

I got the top finished.

Kept TRYING to go with patterns & prints that just wouldn't
work right once I started on the sewing.
So in the end I caved in and went with the fabric I purchased
as an after thought alternative for this project. So far I am
VERY happy with the way it is looking.

Now I am off to my fabric room to find batting, and backing.

Here is a SMALL peek at the colors MizMelly I hope you like
these colors.

OOOoooOOO, what a pretty Blue! If MizMelly just can't stand it, haha I have just the right spot for it!

MizMelly 02-10-2014 02:56 PM

Oh yum! I LOVE turquoise and the gray looks great with it!! Can't wait!!!!!

skaduzy 02-10-2014 04:38 PM

We actually had a few breaks in the snow clouds today and saw sunshine. Living in Ohio is why I have to take 50,000 units of vitamin D for the next 12 weeks. I can't wait to say.....here comes the sun!!!!!
Anyway, your runner is in the mail :)

Quilty-Louise 02-10-2014 06:48 PM

It is actually a tan color. The fabric is from Hobby Lobby and
this particular color is no longer available at me stores. It is
called "Cracked Ice" I just this fabric (thankfully they still carry
other colors of cracked ice).

Oh by the way I am FINISHED!!!!!! mailing on Wednesday or Thursday
not sure which day yet.

My hubs picked out the fabric for binding if you do not like it I will
NOT have my feelings hurt. I told him that I was telling you that the
binding was his pick.

His reply is:

"I will take FULL credit for the binding if it is not liked, but I am not
taking credit about anything else if your partner doesn't like it".

I think I'll be mailing on Thursday, I have yet to put the binding on, I'll try and get that done tonight after I get home from work. Some days, work is a 4 letter word.....

rbwiese 02-11-2014 08:06 AM

I am so sorry I haven't been on here to reply, etc - I think I see a flower in it - but am not sure - any more hints? Or do I just wait until it gets here? It definite does have a spring look to it.

I have had to make another trip to Nashville to see my eye surgeon - sure cuts into my sewing time. But snow is headed here, so will be locked in the house - now just so we don't lose electricity!

MizMelly 02-12-2014 07:46 AM

I'm done!!! Yeah!!! I'll be mailing tomorrow to Quilty-Louise. Tonight I have to photo document and get the package ready to mail.

One week and 1 day to get your runners sent! Has everyone had contact lately with their partner? My list still shows just over 1/2 of us have not received at this point. Please make sure to let me know when you've received your runner and post a pic for us all to see :)

Oksewnsew 02-12-2014 08:39 AM

mom-6 02-13-2014 06:49 PM

Finally got mine to the post office today. Been carrying it around in the truck for a week! Hope you like it Sue.

Got home and what was waiting for me, the absolutely gorgeous table mat she made for me. Much too pretty to put on a table to get all covered up with "stuff"! It's going on my wall to enjoy every day. Thank you, thank you, thank you😍

jaba 02-13-2014 07:25 PM

Haven't heard from Laquita but see that she has finished sewing and sent her doll quilt in that swap, so maybe she is working on my table runner.

Glad to hear from you. How's the snow situation? I think I'd like to be snowed in for a couple of days, or at least I "think" so.

Elisabrat 02-15-2014 07:03 PM

well the last few shall be coming in... I know your not finished yet but thinking we can get a new swap up for May Day returns.. early enough to get mothers day presents done!! I know it seems like forever out ahead but amazingly these things come faster and faster it seems! I cant wait to see the last few runners arrive here! Soon as you have completed your obligations here I will be back in action .. Teresa thank you for taking over for this swap. You have done a terrific job .. someone here on the board equated this to 'cat herding' being a swap/team leader lol.. not as simple as it might look but one would never know you have had any chasing to do at all :) Must have a terrific group of players :)

I did have a little modelling help......

tlambing 02-16-2014 12:21 PM

Oh Miz! What a beautiful table mat and gorgeous kitty! Our kitty sleeps on my cutting table in the sun in front of the sunniest window in the house. At night he meows until I open the blind so he can keep watch over the front yard all night. He always gets his way!

Only 4 days left until our mailing deadline. According to my count, there are 6 of us still waiting to receive. If you have not been in contact with your partner for a bit, please do so now. Give us an update. I'm hoping to turn this swap back over to Brat sans any stragglers. Come on and help me do this :)

tablerunner

1 Attachment(s)
I received my tablerunner yesterday from mom-6 and it is perfect for me. It is all about cats.....one of my favorite things.

I put it on the carpet to take a picture and that cat of mine laid right down on it. She is so big that she covered the whole thing up so I had to take another picture after I pushed her off. It's squares of cats plus pinwheel stars. The sashing looks like bamboo. Really neat! The backing is all cat fabric. I like the colors a lot, too.

I hope you can see the detail in the picture.

Thanks, Patty, for the beautiful tablerunner. I do love it! Sassy does too. (You must have cats of your own.)

Here's a pic of all of the runners/mats that have been posted. Please post a pic if you can, or ask the sender to post a pic for you. Everyone loves to see their beautiful handiwork displayed. It's also a great resource for new ideas!

SandyinZ4 02-16-2014 01:57 PM

Teresa, you've done a great job keeping things going here and so nice to see all the runners grouped together. Hope everyone follows through and there is a grand final finish on time. Some amazing quilters have participated. I have loved watching from the sidelines.

MizMelly 02-16-2014 02:19 PM

That's my Dusty on the table mat. He's the eldest of my 5 (and in my profile pic). Obviously a camera ham! He's also the one who demands the most attention, morning, noon and night. Spoiled much?

Quilty-Louise 02-17-2014 08:00 AM

I received my AWESOME hexagon table mat from MizMelly OMG it
is totally awesome. Paper pieced the yellow rose and appliqued 4
butterflies in the borders.

PP is the one thing I have not yet learned how to do but I want to
some day.

Melanie THANK YOU so much I love it.

Mel also made a jewelry travel pouch that I will use as my yo-yo
sewing pouch (I don't wear much jewelry anymore).
She also sent me some handmade soaps.

I will post pictures soon as I unpack my camera.

Again thank you thank you thank you.

Louise

Oh MizMelly that is gorgeous. Love yellow roses, and applique. Great job.

Quilty-Louise 02-17-2014 01:29 PM

No "think" I liked it.

KNOW that I loved it!!

Thanks Mel for posting the picture for me.

We went to the cabin this weekend and got back yesterday afternoon,
so needless to say I have not unpacked everything yet. Kind of glad we
don't go up to the cabin very often its more work to pack and unpack
than it is to drive up there.

But it was a great weekend and LOTS of snow (about 3-4 feet).

What an awesome spring table mat! Great job MizMelly!!!! You're a lucky woman Quilty-Louise :)

Likethedog 02-17-2014 02:43 PM

I especially love the center rose!

Quilty-Louise 02-17-2014 03:42 PM

Yes I AM one luck person to have a yellow rose made just for me.

3 yellow roses has been my "signature" for over 27 years. Even
to the point that on my right should I have a tattoo of 3 yllow roses.

Likethedog 02-18-2014 06:27 PM

Finally, I mailed my package to my partner! Sorry I've been so slow about it -- no good excuse.

tlambing 02-19-2014 04:40 PM

Just a quick reminder...Tomorrow is the mailing deadline for our swap :) According to my list there are 4 runners outstanding, but 2 of those have been mailed. If you have not mailed, or are not going to be able to mail by tomorrow, please contact me AND your partner. Thanks so much.

Can't wait to see the remaining creations.
