Favorite Things Tablerunner/Mat swap!! Sign ups Close January 10th

Favorite Things Tablerunner/Mat swap!! Sign ups Close January 10th

A Table Mat can be any shape that could be a centerpiece; this should be a minimum size of 16" across the longest point. For instance, a hexagon table mat that is 16" from one corner to another at its widest point and each of its six sides are 8".
A Table Runner should be a minimum size of 12"x28". Table runners are typically longer than they are wide.

How it works:
This swap will be a partnered swap. Each person will make a runner for the other.
Design and method will be up to each creator.
Partners shall not impose requirements or expectations upon each other.
Let it be a joyous surprise.

THE THEME IS: FAVORITE THINGS!
I’m suggesting that we each share a few of our favorite things with our partners. Such as (but not limited to) our favorite:

Color
Flower
Animal
Hobby
Activity
ETC......
*You can choose to share or not. This is merely a suggestion.*

Then our partners can choose one or more of our favorite things to fashion our runner/mat into a personalized gift :)

Design and method will be up to the creator but since this is something that will be on a table and likely spilled on, make sure whatever you make is washable on at least a gentle cycle. Good grade cottons only no homespuns or non cotton fabrics in this swap please. You should make something you would put on your own table at home. Take your time, there is no rush to get it out fast. Its better to be slow & steady and you will be pleased with what you send and your partner will be thrilled to receive it!

Please PM Tlambing with the following information by January 10th. She will then match up names and get them returned to you by January 12th. You will have until February 20th to mail the finished product. THIS IS A DEADLINE NOT A GUIDELINE Please do not participate if you believe you can not fulfill this time frame commitment. Please do not ask to join if you have outstanding/unfinished your commitments here on the QB.

Board Name:
Real Name:
Phone #: (this will NOT be given to your partner, this is for my use only in the event that a problem should arise)
Do you have any allergies:
Do you have any allergens (cats, dogs, smoker):
Can you ship international:
Do you have the ability to post pictures:

It is encouraged and acceptable to post pictures of fabric choices, progress, sneak peaks. I would love some lively conversation so lets keep this a fun forum to chat, bounce ideas off each other, assist each other as needed. There will never be a dumb question so ask if you need help. And above all else.. HAVE FUN! Encourage each other! ONE REQUIREMENT: you must post at least once a week so your partner and I know your alive and still in the game. I will be watching for your posts. Just say hi if you don't want to chat with us but get on the board and post something here please.

Please notify Tlambing as soon as possible if you feel you cannot complete your obligation. Please don’t sign up if you don’t think you can achieve a finished product in the time allotted.

People who fail to follow-through and do not notify Tlambing will be banned from any of my future swaps (should there be any) and your name may be given to other swap hosts. Obviously, things happen in life and I will certainly consider that, but you must communicate. I reach out fairly regularly to check on progress so there is no excuse for not telling us if there might be a delay.

So jump on board everyone and join the fun!

Now for the legalese.

****Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here at the Quilting Board: ****

I am required to insist that participants send Tlambing a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.

I am required to insist that participants notify Tlambing as soon as they have finished their quilt and are ready to mail it.

Once I have received notice that both partners are done and ready to mail, I will send both a PM to let them know it’s time to mail.

I am required to insist that all participants send Tlambing verification of shipment, to include tracking information.

Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.”

Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipient’s government are the sole responsibility of the recipient.

Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation to ship by February, 20th shall be deemed “late” and risk receiving Negative [Swap] Feedback.

Please keep in touch with Tlambing as required. Please let her know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time.

Swappers should treat each other as friends and focus on the fun. So … please be prepared to be flexible, patient and understanding if necessary and appropriate.

We're off to a running start! Don't be shy. Come join in on the fun. Hope I see lots of returning players!

Likethedog 12-09-2013 09:26 PM

Raindrops on roses? Whiskers on kittens? Brown paper packages tied up with string? Plenty of options with this great theme!

Elisabrat 12-10-2013 05:10 AM

My pleasure Brat.

FYI. I am running the swap this month so Elisabrat can take a little break. I'm sure after this brief respite she'll be back encouraging (cracking that whip) for us. I'm glad to be of help to our "Dear Friend"

Come join the fun folks. Lets keep the group going strong!

Likethedog 12-10-2013 03:21 PM

I really enjoyed making a Christmas table runner. This time, I'm thinking of a mat instead -- maybe six-sided?

Rose Bagwell 12-10-2013 11:28 PM

I would love to do this one.

skaduzy 12-11-2013 11:16 AM

I just signed up. I think I would like to try a mat this time instead of a runner.

Elisabrat 12-11-2013 03:41 PM

ok, so I say I love rainbows, hearts and cats a partner could then chose any of those or all of those to make into my runner for me?

or are we doing our favorite things into a runner to gift to someone else (this makes no sense but go with me).. or help I hear there is some confussion..

mom-6 12-11-2013 04:28 PM

I'm in for this one too!

tlambing 12-11-2013 05:29 PM

Your partner would list their favorite things, color, animal etc… and you would fashion a runner/mat to suit their favorites, to the best of your abilities.

jaba 12-11-2013 05:39 PM

Teresa, do you have to list your favorite things or can you just say I would like a Valentine's table runner. Not sure I'd like a table runner of my favorite things???? And it's okay if it is for favorite things only, just a question...

tlambing 12-11-2013 06:36 PM

I think that it would be OK. I know that if I had you as my partner, I'd be happy to make something Valentines for you & I'd bet any other quilter partner would too.

Likethedog 12-11-2013 08:31 PM

I will ask my partner about her favorite things AND what she prefers -- so if she wants a Groundhog's Day runner, fine with me; or if she really loves butterflies or elephants, etc., that's fine, too. Either way, lots of creative possibilities, right?

Quilty-Louise 12-12-2013 11:04 AM

I am going to list some of my favorite things and let my future partner
decide what they want to go with from list if they wish.

Favorite colors: Purple & yellow
LEAST favorite colors/prints: brown!!! olive/drab green, civil war (muddy/drab colors)
and 30's style prints
Favorite flower: yellow roses (3 yellow roses is my "signature theme")
Likes: cats, butterflies, peacocks, dragonflies, exotic (tropical) birds (parrots etc),
sewing/quilting themed.
Hobbies: sewing, quilting, machine embroidery, audiobooks.
Activities: making fabric yo-yo's

If I can think of anything else later I will add a post with it. Yeah I know
am all over the place with my likes. LOL
Does that make me eclectic? or just plain crazy?

LOL

I have recently made a very personalized quilt for myself with 99 favorite things mini (4") blocks. I would love to try to capture someone else's favorite things in a table topper, so count me in!

Likethedog 12-12-2013 01:29 PM

We'd love to see a picture of your favorite things quilt!

Am I the only one who sends out Ground Hog's Day cards? (some people call them Christmas cards, but it's usually Feb. 2 by the time I get them all finished)

Elisabrat 12-13-2013 07:36 PM

99 of your favorite things? you must be one incredibly happy person :) its always so easy to say your dislikes so hard to come up with likes. GOOD FOR YOU, 99 however might make it hard for someone to make your runner (lots of things for one small runner!) so guess you have to come up with a few more :) just for the runner.

likethedog feeling like my cards are going out just as cruddy late this year. so perhaps they can be ground hog cards if I cross out the wording and add new stuff like happy hog day? .. hum...
these are going to be fun quilts to see Teresa. lucky everyone!

jaba 12-13-2013 07:55 PM

Went and looked at your quilt Jenn, it is beautiful! What a beautiful "life story" told in fabric. Been looking at all your little blocks and trying to relate to what you were feeling. Don't know if anyone ever can but I sure could relate to some of them in my own life with what I thought you meant. That's what's so nifty about it, everyone can relate something in their own life that probably had nothing to do with what you had in mind. Imagination is great isn't it. Thanks for sending the link, it's a beautiful quilt!!! :)

Likethedog 12-13-2013 08:37 PM

Cool quilt, JenniePenny!

Likethedog 12-14-2013 10:48 AM

I've been thinking a lot about one of my favorite things this morning: Rain. Liquid water, shall we say. We had an unusually long spate of unusually cold weather, down to 9 degrees one night and in the teens and low 20s for more than a week, and when the temperature finally went above freezing and the rain started Thursday evening it was such a relief. Rain, rain, don't go away!

JenniePenny 12-14-2013 01:08 PM

Thank you so much Jaba and Likethedog!

I like a nice rain storm too.

Elisabrat, I do try to keep a positive outlook whenever possible. There is so much to appreciate and be thankful for. I have my loving family and a warm house. And hubby made meatballs for dinner tonight!

Elisabrat 12-15-2013 05:47 AM

wow I want all of them! amazing the variety Teresa. Favorite things will be fun. Bet you will see cats, and dogs and roses and chickens and gingerbread men and all sorts of variety. Just let your partner know your absolute favorite things and well almost everything is avail in fabric or one can make one color concepted by that item. no gingerbread fabric, use that warm brown with say red and white and give the idea of a gingerbread man.. or applique one free patterns all over the computer. a fat quart is not horribly expensive if you need to buy a focal fabric for your partner.. maybe 3.00 at the MOST so have fun ladies. Ask for help or if you can NOT make the fabric your partner is hoping for ask for a second or third option its ok! look at those pictures above. all for one theme.. so much variety. wowsa!

Elisabrat 12-16-2013 05:49 AM

posted my medallion quilt along in the block of the month category. I am going to use one of my ufo's as a center. those ufo's are going to be outta here. I swear (crossing fingers and toes here).

come on ladies sign up for a runner/mat swap!!! you could use something new and pretty on your coffee table or perhaps you have someone in mind you can gift one too. just give that persons favorite thing ideas to your partner and get rolling on a new adventure!! yahoooo!!!!! Teresa what are you thinking of asking for??

tlambing 12-16-2013 07:34 AM

Busy Busy BUSY!!!! Weekend! Hope everyone got all that they needed done accomplished. (not me) This was Christmas Party extravaganza weekend. Had fun seeing friends and shopping with my niece. I took her along to choose her present, that way she got what she really wanted. (she's an adult and needed clothing) All in all a very successful wknd. Just not the projects getting done kind.
I've been thinking as to what I will list as my favorite things. Lets see, today right this moment I'm thinking…..RED, Batiks, butterflies, coffee, sunshine, nature. Interesting. I'm glad my list is just a jumping off point for my partner. Although I have seen a very pretty batik in a coffee bean pattern.

Come on Brat, you'll have all of those UFO's together by Jan 10th surely! Then you can jump in and join us :)

Elisabrat 12-17-2013 05:21 AM

if you could see my ufo pile you would get it :) in fact glad to send them to someone and they can quickly whip them together for me..snap your fingers and tada! instant presto sewn with binding and sashing and well just PM me and they will be in the mail to you tomorrow. I would oh so love to see that box empty. I made two centers yesterday with scraps another goal but not exactly working with my ufos was it? and today if energy hits me I will start on your rr otherwise that goes to tomorrow. Still have straps to put on a Christmas apron, new pattern, this was reversible and a harder thing for me. I can not read patterns, they drive me bonkers. takes like 4 times to get to the oh oh this is what I am supposed to be doing. I can read a quilt pattern why not a sewing one? oh sigh its the brat at her finest there lol. If I had a favorite things runner it would be grapes, wine, wine country.. something lovely for the table and well a nice theme.. or perhaps it would be holidays (I know what a shock to you all).. and how come I can not get the song la coocoo racha out of my head, and spell check please for that but its going over and over in my thoughts lol.. what a dork I am. no white Christmas songs for me. its to snow tomorrow and I am NOT happy about that one at all. oh joy snow, and ice roads and no getting out of the house again except for dialysis. if I didn't have that I would not move my bones out that door. nope.

jaba 12-17-2013 06:09 AM

Now I know what you forgot yesterday brat! The straps and ties for your apron...you were going to use my turner thingy. You better come back over it'll save you a couple of frustrating hours. Wine country sounds nice, I could do a mat type runner in my kitchen, if someone is fast a Valentine's day, or St. Patty's, or anything in purples, teals, butterflies and hummingbirds, and May Day a maypole would be nice or a May basket. My mother always use to make me one of those. Just No kitties or dogs here please. I wish I knew my partners wants so I could start now, hate not knowing what I need to make...and get it done.

tlambing 12-17-2013 07:05 AM

"Patience Grasshopper" names will be here before you know it!

MizMelly 12-17-2013 09:44 AM

Yippee! I'm in!!! As far as favorite things go...... oh my, have almost too many to name, but what tops the list is cats!! And raindrops on roses, kitten whiskers, coffee, wine, beer, fabric (HUGE stash), paper piecing, quilting, Accuquilt (applique), bright colors, insects, seashore, holidays, etc. and, and, and..... well, there's lots more, I'll have to think of them when my head stops spinning!

rbwiese 12-17-2013 10:12 AM

Hi! I am new to this board and to the swaps here - but not new to swaps! I am learning to quilt and re-learning how to sew - sewed bunches when my children were young, but am now sewing for a new generation. Made table runners for Christmas presents for my children, so this swap is just in time.

Thanks -
