Oh, I'm so excited! Welcome to our swap, new swappers! Glad you found us and decided to jump onboard!

Oh MizMelly I'd kill for 80 right now. I'm a wimp! High 50's today for us:( and yes I'm whining! I don't know how you snow covered people exist!

I'd kill for 50! It gets hot and stays hot for almost 8 months of the year here, so when we actually get "winter" weather, we love it! And I agree, I don't know how all those people who get snow deal with it. We shovel sunshine about 350 days out of the year. Of course now they are calling for a slight chance of rain and cooler temps for Friday. We do celebrate when we get rain. And hopefully more snow for the high country. We've been dealing with drought conditions for so long that we pray for snow and rain to ease up on the water restrictions.

Quilty-Louise 12-17-2013 03:00 PM

I would kill for a balm 75 year round.
Yes I KNOW that means I would have to move to a tropical
climate, but I can handle that kind of hardship.

LOL

mom-6 12-17-2013 04:39 PM

There are times when I certainly miss living in the tropics. Record low of 68* and record high of 88*! Of course being a bazillion miles from anywhere made some things a bit difficult at times. Like when the commissary ran out of paper products during a dock workers strike...

So glad you found this thread, now you can just keep making table runners or mats and the kids will get one for every holiday of the year  Welcome aboard!
"grasshoppers" do they have patience? I'm a tryin' boss, I'm a tryin'..........

I like coffee themes, sewing themes, wine themes :p, St. Patrick's would be nice, too.

Welcome MizMelly and rbwiese, glad you're joining us. You'll have fun with this group!

I like wine! oh oh your talking FABRIC :) how goes it in table runner land?

I can honestly say now living in WYOMING and previously in the SIERRA's in CA, that the best place I loved snow: SEDONA ARIZONA, you got this beautiful snow, it dusted everything all over the rust colored mountains and then.. it was melted enough to drive by 10 am. this is how snow should be. light, fluffy, and melted. It was pretty cold at night there but warm enough to wear just a flannel shirt in the day. That is my kind of winter. None of the Sierras 3-6 feet of snow.. and none of this ICE on the road Wyoming has to offer. Still have snow on the ground from the last time it snowed 10 days ago.. nope snow is not all that guys promise you. Come visit in Dec or Jan surely you can get your fill in about 10 minutes then come inside and enjoy it the way it should be enjoyed. from a warm building with a big window :)

Likethedog 12-18-2013 05:31 PM

Brat, the way I've always thought snow should be: Only on the rooftops, grass and trees. If it would stay off the roads and sidewalks, I'd be fine with it!

Likethedog 12-18-2013 05:33 PM

Oh, yes -- here are some of my favorite things: Cats, chickens and roosters, lighthouses and the ocean, bright colors (my favorite is red) and black and white, reading, cooking and, now, sewing.

Elisabrat 12-19-2013 05:05 AM

lol yes that is how it should be, beautifully on trees, in someone else's back yard!

love your likes likethedog we have a lot of the same likes :)

JenniePenny 12-19-2013 08:32 AM

Here are a few of my favorite things:
Lambs, sheep; Books; Quilting theme; Soft blues, aquas, and coral together
Cheery red and yellow together; Cats; Stripes; Flower pots

Tfch8184 12-19-2013 10:48 AM

Alright I'm in. I just finished my Christmas presents so I'm ready to make my wall hanging for another swap. I can add one more for February lol.

Just so I don't forget a few of my favorite things...not including my daughter. Lol. Cats (I have 5) and my mini doxie (he's an odd ball and has dapple markings that match dfs Harley). Pink and green are my favorite color combo along with black and grey. My house is super country style lots of dark wood work and browns so I stay away from those colors unless I put on my boots.

There's really only two colors I don't like. Purple and emerald green.

Ok off to send my info to our gracious swap boss! :)

MizMelly 12-19-2013 12:58 PM

Oh hey! I see a recurring theme here with favorite things!! Cats. Yes, I have 5 indoors and a colony in my back yard!!

Tfch8184 12-20-2013 03:35 AM

Is there a study linking crazy cat ladies to fabric hoarders disguised as quilters lol!!!

I adore my cats they are my babies even when they drive me nuts.

Quilty-Louise 12-20-2013 05:47 AM

I wonder too.

Love my 3 fur kids, quite often they bring me much laughter
with the crazy stuff they do.

The "dude" aka Gizmo likes to sit in the bathroom and yell
to get someone to come give him some attention, then he
wants the linen closet door opened so he can jump in the towel
shelf and make a mess out of the neatly stack hand towels and
wash clothes.

Miss "whiny " aka Nim will give you this "poor pitiful me" look
and meow to get you to give her some attention. Or she sometimes
will steal my elastic hair bands and brings them to my hubs so he
can throw them for her to go chase.

Then there is "the monster" aka Kiko now my oldest. When she decides
it is time for attention she will wait til I am in bed than climb on my side
or stomach and I swear she has volume controls on her purring because
she always gets louder when I am watching something on tv, but let a
commercial come on and she has a soft low purr, and she demands to
get pets. But when she is done with the attention and pets instead of just
getting off you and leaving, she will bite you to make you stop they she runs
off the bed.

I have 2 bins of "cat fabric" on top of everything else that I have.

MizMelly 12-20-2013 06:08 AM

I think I had more than two bins full of cat fabric. I'm not sure how much I have currently, I had to totally purge my sewing room in order to pull carpeting. Now everything that I couldn't bear to part with is in bins and boxes. At least now I can find the pins on the floor, and when the kitties leave me little prezzies, I see it before I step in it, and it's easy to clean up. Last night one of the dear creatures did something unmentionable on my christmas tree skirt - I had to toss that in the wash and hang it up inside since we got rain overnight (buckets and buckets). Luckily it washed up fine and it's back under the tree this AM. This time there's wrapped presents on it to keep that from happening again. What a bunch of brats I have!

Elisabrat 12-20-2013 07:57 AM

oh dear LADIES no sharing the bad things cats do.. it makes those 'haters' find an excuse to say SEE SEE cats are rotten! its not true! they are adorable and a very huge part of my life. the best thing about my cats: they love me when I am down and out, in a cruddy grumpy mood, sicker than a dog, no make up on, wearing jammies all day they do not care at all. they just think I am marvelous and they are so easy to please with a simple pet or two. I say cats are worth their weight in gold and then some. Just saying you know.. a little bit of a cat lover. My email is a goofy one about cats.. I used to run a kitten rescue. did over 300 kittens in two years. The shelter has to put down babies that need bottle feeding. Not enough help to save them. I took them and cared for them, fixed vaccinated and adopted them out.. it was such a small thing to do and so very rewarding. Yup a little bit of a cat lady here.

RUNNERS, I know you can't pick fabrics yet til you get to know your partner (by the way what a cool thing getting to know each other more than just by a name) but you can be picking patterns. there are a ton for free, killer ideas on pinterest that you can find also.. so I suggest if you pick a pattern or two now you will be ready come January when you get your name. The pattern picking takes ten times as long as fabric picking does. Show some ideas of designs you would like to make. its a fun way to encourage each other in creativity.

MizMelly 12-20-2013 09:23 AM

I have a hoard of table runner patterns, and have more than a few ideas from Youtube videos! Haven't checked pinterest yet, but that's next. Fun, fun, fun!

Elisabrat 12-21-2013 05:03 AM

ok over 100 cat fabrics wow didn't know there were that many and I go to felinedrive.com to check out cat fabrics all the time and equilter. you must have been collecting for years. time to make blankets for kitties at shelters.. something to curl up on when they go home. YOu know so many people forget to bring a blanket for their carriers.. amazing really how many do that.. you could make lucky me blankets I got a home! just trying to use your cat fabrics for you lol.. easy to use someone elses treasures :)

Likethedog 12-21-2013 04:07 PM

I've been collecting fat quarters with cats, whenever I find them. I have eight or nine now. Eventually, I figured, I'll make something from them.

tlambing 12-21-2013 05:36 PM

I love all animals, but ya know what…I don't have a single cat fabric at all! I have a few scraps of doggies left over from a Boom, but, not a single kittie.

Had lots of fun out with quilting friends for lunch today. We celebrated my birthday as well as Christmas! Came home with an armload of gifts. It's so fun to get together and we hardly talked about quilting at all! One of my gifts is a spectacular owl pillowcase :) Which is one of my favorite things. Owls are as adorable as they are wise.

Happy Birthday Tlambing. Glad you had a fun day with friends. I don't have any kitty stuff either, maybe because I'm very allergic to them....

Likethedog 12-21-2013 08:29 PM

Happy birthday, Tlambing. Hope the shortest day of the year was long on happiness.

jaba 12-21-2013 08:49 PM

I'm going nuts having to wait to see what my partner wants me to try and make. Got a least part of it done, have a couple of table mats picked out and about 3-4 runners, so one of them should fit her favorite things...I hope.

Tfch8184 12-22-2013 03:36 AM

I would love to hoard cat fabric but df does not care for cats. It's a true show of how much he loves me that he let me have five considering before we got the first one he said he hated cats. I think df would draw the line for me at having cats and spending money on cat fabric. Lol. I would love to collect car fabric for him though.

mom-6 12-22-2013 11:00 AM

I'm collecting car fabric too! DH and DGS both would be willing recipients of something made with such.

tlambing 12-23-2013 10:37 AM

Has anyone had a chance to look at prospective patterns for our swap? I'm leaning toward a more contemporary pattern if it works. Really wanting to try one I've never done before. Can't wait to find out what my partners likes are……..I'm hoping some of my batiks will fit in there somewhere:)

If you're on the fence wondering if you should jump in and join us, please do! The more the Merrier Ho Ho HO! We are open to new players until Jan 10th, well after Christmas and into the New Year. You'll have had plenty of time to recuperate from all of your holiday festivities.

Happy Holidays!

Likethedog 12-23-2013 02:02 PM

Tlambing -- how many have signed up thus far? I think it's going to be a really fun swap, so I hope more people take advantage of it.

I'm going to try a pattern I've never done before -- I like trying new things and I like variety. Fortunately, a new pattern is easy for me, since I haven't done very many yet.

tlambing 12-23-2013 03:00 PM

We have at least a dozen so far! I'm hoping many more will join us.:)

jaba 12-23-2013 06:20 PM

I've got the patterns picked..I think. Need to know my partner's wants first. That will make a difference to which one I should use. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Elisabrat 12-25-2013 07:49 AM

Merry Christmas, happy belated birthday Teresa and well I hope that life is treating all of you so well. I am going to have a beautiful Christmas day. Early this morning they had a fire on the tv with music almost like sitting in front of the fire sipping coffee early on lol. not quiet. at all. but did I change the channel? no no I did not. figured what the heck no thinking required :)

I hope you all pick wonderful patterns and those on the fence really have to check out the last couple table runner swaps. Tlambing put all the pictures together in one big photo collage and the selection and creativity was amazing. I am positive this will be the same. by tomorrow morning you should be able to breath again and well with that signing up will be so much easier!

Quilty-Louise 12-25-2013 07:55 AM

Has anyone seen the newest issue of "McCall's Quick Quilts Feb/Mar 2014"
there is a Valentines table runner that is just to cute!

Plus MANY other awesome projects.

The name of the pattern is called "Lovey Dovie"

jaba 12-25-2013 08:44 PM

Quilty-Louise I haven't got mine in the mail yet. Now I want it to hurry up and get here! I want a Valentine's table runner, think that's going to be my favorite thing right now. One last chance to say Merry Christmas to everyone and hope your holiday was filled with family and friends, wonderful memories and good times. I'm looking forward to the new year and new experiences!

MizMelly 12-27-2013 03:20 PM

Howdy Everyone! Hope you had a fantastic holiday! I'm smack in the middle of my holiday celebrations (they go all week). First was Christmas, then my B-day (today), then on Saturday is 12th Night, celebrated with many friends, and then last but not least, New Year's!!
Looking forward to this swap, I missed out on all the fun fall swaps due to a major house purge/renovation, and family visiting from the east.
I do not have any pattern in mind yet, there are so many to choose from!! I'll wait til I get my partner and find out what they would like before I pick one.
I did hit a huge fabric sale at one of the local quilt shops tho!! 30% - 50% off everything in the store!! And of course another cat fabric followed me home....!!!!!

tlambing 12-28-2013 08:23 AM

Now that the hustle and bustle of Christmas is almost over, don't let quilting boredom set in! Come on and join us. Just think a runner/mat made just for you :) This swap doesn't close for almost 2 weeks yet. Plenty of time to recover from all the festivities. Just take a look at Elisabrat's last table runner swap to see what beautiful creations are being made by this great group of people, and then jump on in!

I'm going to lurk for a bit on this swap. I'm just finally getting back to the point I don't hurt 24/7, so I doubt I'll be able to join. Last night I repaired a couple blankets for a friend and must admit it was so nice to sit in front of my sewing machine again. I'm going to try to finish mom-6's runner today from the last swap. She's been so patient with me, and I'm so thankful. I never knew that starting on Humira would make me hurt so much before it got better. I still have trouble gripping with my dominant (left) hand, so cutting is a challenge, but the straight stitches last night where I only had to guide the fabric through the machine made me feel useful again and give me hope that I'll be back at it in no time. None of my sewn gifts were made for Christmas though, and for that I feel horrible. The people that are most important know what I've been dealing with though, and there's no hard feelings. I feel fortunate to have such understanding friends.

I surely hope you're feeling better soon. I can't imagine what you're going through. I know that your friends and family certainly understand what's going on. My best wishes to you, that you will be pain free soon.

mom-6 12-28-2013 10:59 AM

So glad you're starting to feel better! Don't have to rush with that runner on my account. I will enjoy it whenever it arrives. Will give my day a lift just when I need it I'm sure.
