Tam...Moo 01-19-2010 07:24 PM

Thank you so much for sending me this message. Please add me to your list - I have not made a mini quilt but I would love to. I am open to mailing anyway - I just don't know the specifics of mailing overseas so if I am selected to do that I would appreciate some pointers.

Gwyn 01-19-2010 07:35 PM

It isn't really different to mail overseas. Just have to fill out the customs form at the post office...The cost difference is minimal on small stuff like this.

wvdek 01-19-2010 08:47 PM

OK, I've had SERIOUS withdrawal this month, so I'm in for February. Sigh, as she sits in the middle of boxes, her entire sewing room packed up and ready to move.

Chele 01-20-2010 09:59 AM

48 swappers as of this post!

krazy4quilts 01-20-2010 12:00 PM

is there any thing special about being able to ship internationally? I would assume cost would be a little more and that is not a problem with me.

Chele 01-20-2010 12:14 PM

There's nothing special about shipping internationally. You package the same and the USPS ships by weight. First class international mail ships up to 3 lbs. After 3 lbs. the rates get pricey. Most of the quilts weigh less than a pound though. You can get an estimate of international postage costs at: http://ircalc.usps.gov/

For example, my January quilt weighs 6 oz. packaged. If I send it to California it will cost $2.07. If I send it to Italy or China it will cost $5.64. Not a huge difference.

krazy4quilts 01-20-2010 12:23 PM

ok great then count me in on international also. Just didnt want to have to give up my 1st born for it. Or have to go thru a strip search to get it in the air.

Ms Grace 01-20-2010 12:33 PM

Chele,
Are there any special forms or anything for mailing internationally?

When you mail your package at the P.O., they give you a Customs Form to fill out. The guy at the counter always helps me with it. No biggie. :D

Esqmommy 01-20-2010 12:46 PM

Don't forget on the customs forms...you need to have a low declared value, otherwise, recipients are taxed on their "gift". Especially Canada. I just write the value at $20.00 when I ship out of the country.

  Um, well that might be a problem at my little biddy post office.
They'll probably have to call Postal headquarters in Washington DC for help!!!!

If you mail in a flat rate envelope (not a box), you don't have to fill out a customs form. And a DQ fits in one of the priority mail envelopes perfectly. It costs about $14.00, but to me it's worth it, 'cause I can track it, and if it gets lost, there is a tracking number.

missgigglewings 01-20-2010 01:46 PM

I'll ship internationally too!

blueribbontoes 01-20-2010 02:59 PM

Probably by the end of the month. Chele said sign ups thru 1/30, but it seems like there's always so much excitement that she assigns partner earlier!!! I bet we know the date no later than 2/1/10!!

kwhite 01-20-2010 06:29 PM

I am in as I said but please sign me up for US only.

Chele please put on the suggestion list for one of the following months 3D methods. That IMO would be fun.
