February Pincushion & Needlecase Swap - Sign-up ends January 31, 2015

This is a secret swap and you will not necessarily be sending to the person who will send to you. This month will be a little different. We will be making a pincushion OR needlecase OR a set (1 of each) for 1 name. Please specify in your PM what you would like to swap. All skill levels welcome!

THEME: This month the theme with be
Valentines or Red, Pink & White.

CONSTRUCTION:

1. The cushion/case does NOT have to be quilted or hand embroidered, although it can be. But it must be handmade - not purchased.
2. Use cotton or wool felt for the pincushions and stuff with appropriate filling. Use cotton or felt for the needle case, and it should have an insert of wool, felt, or Warm and Natural (this is great for needle cases).
3. Embellishments/appliqué/embroidery are welcome but not required. If you plan on using the cushion/case as a daily use item please mention this, as polyester will dull the points of pins and needles.
4. The size and shape of the pincushion/needle case is up to the individual creating it, but should not be smaller than 3” x 3”.

SIGN UPS:
Sign-ups begin today and end on January 31st at 11:00 pm EST. This is a firm closing time. Names will be assigned by PM beginning no later than the morning of February 2nd. Please respond to this thread with a post if you are joining the swap. Then highlight and copy the information sheet onto a new PM, fill it in and PM it to me. Please put in the subject line of the PM what you want to swap. I will acknowledge receipt of your PM.

MAILING DATE:
The deadline for mailing is
Tuesday, February 17th. Participants in the January swap who did not fulfill their obligation by the time the February signup closes will not be able to participate in this swap. You are required to PM me with your tracking number when you ship. You are required to have a tracking number on your package but priority mail is not required. First class with a tracking number is acceptable. If for some reason you will not be able to fulfill your obligation, please PM me as soon as possible so that I can locate a swap angel.

YOU MUST SEND ME A PM WHEN YOU SHIP AND WHEN YOU RECEIVE. Remember to thank your partner, either by a post, or a PM for a personal thank you. It would be nice if you report a feedback score to your SP. Pictures are encouraged, but not required. We all love seeing what everyone is receiving. If you are unable to post a picture, please make sure that you mark that on your information sheet so that your partner can take a picture before shipping it. Please understand that this board has members with different skill levels and you will not necessarily be swapping with someone at the same level. Let's love the creation we are sent. We all started somewhere and the most important thing to remember, is that your partner made it with you in mind!

EXTRAS:
Please add a card or note with your name and board name so the recipient knows who made it. It is not necessary to send other items such as needles, pins, etc., but you may if you would like. Just make sure the pin points will not poke out during shipping and stab the postal worker.

In in for one set. I'll email you info later today

Patchesnposies 01-25-2015 12:23 PM

Karen, if you have fabric that is Valentine's Day specific does it HAVE to be in Red, Pink or White? The fabric I have in mind has those colors, too, but is not ONLY those colors.

I am in for a set. I'll send my info once the dishes are done! LOL

klaws 01-25-2015 12:46 PM

The Valentine's Day fabric doesn't have to be red, pink or white. That is for someone who doesn't have valentine fabric or would rather not make something with valentine fabric. I'm leaving it open for everyone.

SewExtremeSeams 01-25-2015 12:53 PM

Karen, I will let you know by the 31st. I want to see if I can get a few projects done prior to signing up.

Thanks for that clarification!

Will let you know more by the deadline date.

MizMelly 01-26-2015 06:20 AM

I signed up for a pincushion & needlecase! Haven't done this swap in a few years, so it's like starting something new!

lawsonmugs 01-26-2015 07:05 AM

Louise- you gotta join in again. Humm haven't seen that Lynnie posted yet. Or Sis. Have a great day all.

klaws 01-26-2015 07:10 AM

Lynnie will be getting stuck in that blizzard. She is supposed to get about 16" of snow. Yuck! I'm glad I live in Florida! Also Dwina in Maine and Pamela in CT will also be pounded with snow and wind. Pat how much are you expecting in OH? All of you up north please stay inside and stay warm. And be careful!!! It's a good time to sew. :)

Patchesnposies 01-26-2015 07:26 AM

Praying for all of you in the path of the storm. Be safe and warm! Stay home if you can! Praying that the power doesn't go out and you get lots of sewing done! To All!

Belfrybat 01-26-2015 07:37 AM

I'm in for a pincushion. I've already PMed my info. I'm hoping for a non-Valentine themed, but will like and use whatever I receive.

nhnative 01-26-2015 08:53 AM

I haven't seen Lynnie on any where. I know NY is going to get a lot of snow too.

nhnative 01-26-2015 09:21 AM

Everyone take care

I was thinking the same thing, Pat. Perhaps she is busy preparing for a few snowed-in days?

JuneBillie 01-26-2015 09:37 AM

Lynnie has the flu.

Patchesnposies 01-26-2015 09:49 AM

Jan, did you ever hear anything that your package was received for the January swap?

Corky 01-26-2015 12:11 PM

Pincushion filling??

I heard recently that people with nut allergies should not be around pincushions with walnut shell filling. Has anyone else heard of this issue or ???

Corky I really don't know. But most of us use polyester fiberfill to stuff our pincushions since they are mostly for collecting and display. If you want to join and you have a nut allergy, specify that in your information and I will make sure that you will not get one with crushed walnut shells just in case.

Patchesnposies 01-26-2015 12:28 PM

Gee Corky, I never heard of that and wouldn't have made the association. Probably something someone should put in the allergy section of the questionnaire. (Requesting her partner not use walnut shell.)

lawsonmugs 01-26-2015 03:21 PM

I have a grand daughter who is allergic to nuts. She has to ingest them to have a reaction. I'm not a doctor so it may be different for others.????

roserips 01-26-2015 07:21 PM

Hi everyone I am signing up for this month so excited since I have already decided what PC I am making now to get it done and mailed before the dead line.

ctyankee 01-27-2015 10:45 AM

PC done & now I have to think about a NC. This is too much fun! :)

klaws 01-27-2015 11:42 AM

We have 12 signed up so far. There is room for a lot more!!!

quiltjoey 01-27-2015 06:35 PM

I'm in again for a set!

JuneBillie 01-27-2015 10:12 PM

I posted this on the January one too, but I will post here as well.

Lynnie needs her some Tamiflu, and may have not been able to get out yesterday with things closed, so hopefully she got her some today. A good friend of hers has been kind to send me a couple of updates on her so we are able to know what is going on.

We Love You Lynnie!!

TOOMANYUFO'S 01-28-2015 08:24 AM

Lynnie I hope you are feeling better soon. I really want to do the Valentine swap this month but not sure if I can. My FIL had to go to the ER just as the storm was starting. He went by ambulance since the weather was going to get bad. They discharged him but him and his wife were stranded and had to stay at the hospital. We couldn't get them because the storm was bad and we would have to travel about 40 mins, thats on good roads. The hospital had a spare bed and put them up for the night. He got worse and went to ER again and this time they admitted him. On top of all his other problems he now has tested positive for the flu. We are still having snow and can't get down to the hospital. We may have to make dicisions about nursing home care since he looses strenght in his legs and sometimes can get around. It has been crazy.

I am so sorry to hear about your father-in-law! I'll keep him and the whole extended family in prayer. The flu on top of everything else....hoping you don't get it too! We'll miss you, but know you'll be back when you can.

klaws 01-28-2015 08:49 AM

Dwina, I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL. Prayers go out to you and your family. I understand if you can't join in but if you can see your way to do it, please do. We will surely miss you!

JuneBillie 01-28-2015 10:01 AM

Dwina I am sorry to hear about your father in law. I won't be in this months swap either. I have to catch up on my train ride quilt, and have to work on some things for two sisters birthdays for Feb. I will be back when it's more feasible for me. I do have a beautiful Valentine's Day pincushion, needle book, and basket from last year, and a beautiful green St. Patrick's Day pincushion from last year. So I am up with the holidays. lol....I will miss you, but pop in to say hi, and view your pretty creations. All of you are dear to my heart. :)

nhnative 01-28-2015 11:17 AM

Dwina you sure are not having a good week. So sorry that your FIL is not better and now the flu. It's really bad this year. And you are still having snow. Nashua, NH got 33". I can't even imagine that. I heard that more snow is on the way tomorrow and Sunday. I know about nursing homes. My mother was in one for 2 months until she got her strength back. You just have to do what you have to do. Sending prayers for you and your family and to stop the snow.

lynnie 01-28-2015 01:00 PM

Thanks all for the well wishes. drs. wouldn't give me Tamiflu, they wanted me in to see them, I couldn't walk, I was too dizzy, crazy drs. so I sweated it out. It's been 5 days now, and i'm on the mend, but still not 100%. I feel yucky but I missed so much here, I new I better get back on. dh knew I was sick when I would go near the 'puter. just couldn't hold my head up. I wish you all good health and not to get this. Dwina, so sorry to hear about your FIL. lets hope for a speedy recovery.
I'm all done and ready to ship. whomever gets me. please take a picture, coz I can't. we did get 30" of snow, and drifts to 5 feet. Friday we're getting more. I feel like I should be living I an igloo. can't wait to see all the reties coming in.

lawsonmugs 01-28-2015 01:16 PM

Yeah lynnie you found it. Dwina sorry about your f-i-l hope he gets better soon.

nhnative 01-28-2015 01:28 PM

Lynnie so glad that you are at least ok to let us know how you are. I just can't believe all the snow everywhere. The most was 36" in Auburn, Ma. Nashua got 33". And you got a lot at 30". Take care

SewExtremeSeams 01-28-2015 01:49 PM

Glad you are back Lynnie. Having the flu or being off your feet for a while is never fun.
