WHERE ARE ALL THE PICTURES AT LADIES???!!!!!!!!!!! Not into sharing pics? to busy cuddling those birds?!!!

sandpat 04-21-2010 04:47 AM

Well yes, actually I've been too lazy to lay my blocks back out and take a pic  And...umm....I think I already admitted that I'm "into" block collecting vs. quilt making...

Karen 04-21-2010 05:15 AM

LOL!!! Patti you are to funny!!

brookemarie19 04-21-2010 09:01 AM

Woohoo!!!!!!!!! I finally got them and love them all!! I will take pics later today and try to post them tonight. I must say, there are two that my oldest two fell in love with and now say I can't have them. Stephen loves the one with the beak that opens and sticks his tongue out and Raigen is, of course, in love with the Peace chick. Thank you all. I had a blast with these!!

Karen 04-21-2010 09:54 AM

Brook can't wait to see your chicks! So glad they arrived safely form the flight home!

here are my chickies!!! I am so happy! I was really excited to get some of the FUNKIER fabric choice blocks :D :D :D

this is not my final layout, Im probably going to make a few more, and add borders to make it bigger.

THANK YOU everyone I got a block from :) I LOVE each one :)

deranged_damsel 04-22-2010 05:58 PM

THANK YOU Patti for hosting the swap :) and all of you that participated in the swap :) Im excited for the next one :)

Karen 04-22-2010 06:02 PM

WOW that is going to a really pretty quilt!! You have 2 of mine!! You are very welcome!

Sazu any luck bribing the volcano?

sandpat 04-23-2010 05:04 AM

Deranged...those laid out cute together. I'm excited to see everyone working on their quilts!

I saw where the planes are flying again now..so Sazu...shouldn't be long now!

Esqmommy 04-23-2010 05:22 AM

Wow, your blocks are making me wish I joined this swap - FABULOUS!!!! Hey Patti, why don't you start a new thread, just for photos of the quilts/tops when they go together?

sandpat 04-23-2010 05:38 AM

Rach...wish you had joined it too...these were the funniest blocks I've ever seen and we had a blast! When people start getting their quilts done...I'd LOVE to start a new thread for them in Pictures rather than Swaps so everyone can see how cute they are.....so ladies?????

Karen 04-23-2010 06:08 AM

I sure hope for Sazu and those over there that the volcano doesn't blow again.

Patti I think that would be great to see the finished tops and quilts!

Esqmommy...why don't you come play with us in Funky Neighborhood?!!! The more the merrier!

Esqmommy 04-23-2010 06:23 AM

I know Karen - I've just been so overcommitted! I am trying to not add stress to my life. Maybe next go around...I'm still debating the funky houses and the May Doll Quilt Swap. But I need to recognize my limits, and I have 3 big projects going on right now. So...I have to just watch and be bummed that I didn't...

aardvarq 04-23-2010 09:08 AM

Thank you everyone for your great feathered creations.

I went to the LQS and found several of the fabrics you folks had used in the blocks I received. I will use these for sashings as needed, and of course, I am going to make loads of fly geese for filler blocks.

Thanks!

sandpat 04-23-2010 02:06 PM

Well, thats lucky to find some of the same fabs! With all the FG..it will look kind of like your avatar...I love that one!

SazuBMidlands 04-23-2010 02:15 PM

No joy yet, but I'm not going to worry for at least another week. I normally reckon 7-10 days, and we're only just at the latter end of that without considering the volcano. As long at they dont arrive as smokey roast chickens I'll be happy.

sandpat 04-23-2010 02:18 PM

Oh, I dunno....I love those Roasted chickens in the grocery! ...I'm not sure if you got any of the "fried chicken" legs or not...but you might get some of those if you package flies over a heat wave of ash!

Blue Bell 04-23-2010 03:28 PM

What great chickens. Love them all.

SazuBMidlands 04-24-2010 12:43 AM

YAY!!!! Chickens!!!! An not even any singed feathers! So happy!!!
*Happy dance* :-D :-D :-D

sandpat 04-24-2010 05:00 AM

Yippee!!! I'm sooo glad they made it!! Actually rather quickly too considering.......

susiequilt 04-24-2010 05:12 PM

Love your chickens deranged! Nice layout.
I'm working on mine but not ready to sew it together yet.

I found what I want for the backing:

Wouldn't that be cool as a moose?
:-D

I'm guilty of not posting a picture yet. I should be downloading pix early this week and will put one up then. I'm pondering something . . . I have 8 or 9 scrappy plaid blocks from the Quilting Bee One Block Swap . . . I'm no longer doing that swap and don't have enough for a quilt . . . I'm wondering if I might combine my scrappy plaids with my funky chickens . . . twould be quite a stew. Hmmmm . . . I'll have to lay it out and see. I could use other plaids for fillers, border, etc. Just thinking out loud here. Maybe I'll post a pix of that too, for opinions sake.

sandpat 04-25-2010 05:12 AM

Susie....that flock is just too great!! I saved the pic so I can do something like it sometime. I love it!! I looked like it would be sooo easy!

Jen, can't wait to see what you are cooking up....I think the plaids would look good...one of the larger blocks had a plaid background and a runner chicken and it looked great! I don't know if you got one or not.

I would love to attempt it but I'm not sure how it would work with quilting the front. I thought of quilting the back then the front separately each with a thin batting but how would I put them together? Maybe just tie them. If I had a machine that did decorative stitches I could join them that way. Or just outline the chickens with a darker color and quilt the front with white and hope it's mostly hidden on the back. Lots of ideas, not much time and little real ability!
It is lovely to look at. Can you imagine the thoughts going on in that little worms head?

:-D

Okay, finally a picture of my flock. I love them all! Thank you everyone!

sandpat 04-26-2010 05:11 AM

They sure look cute all laid out Sew....I can't wait to get to mine on my "list"...a couple of deadline type projects are ahead of it...but its getting lots of thought time!

Susie...I don't know about the quilting would work...hadn't thought quite that far, but its a good point....hmmmm.....I'm guessing that if you did like a panto of some type all over it wouldn't matter much. I usually do more "custom" type quilting on mine though...but you know a cross hatch might just work well on a chicken quilt.....I'm thinking........OUCH!

susiequilt 04-26-2010 06:07 AM

Sew Connie: Love the blocks and layout.

I made my big boy. I made it 15 x 42 but didn't like it. I didn't have any light chicken background fabric. I cut it down to 12 x 36 and liked it better but it still needed something. I added the sun but it doesn't show up much. I also added some flowers. I like it much better now.

I have one more fill in block to applique around and one little fill in to add and then I am ready to sew all my blocks together.
The one chicken that wasn't sewed around the applique was coming up so I took the time and sewed it down. The other one that had straight line sewing worried me so I also sewed that one down. Another block I needed bigger and another smaller! :-D

This has been quite a learning experience for me and I have loved every minute of it.
I hope to have the top finished soon.
I will post a picture then.
I'll worry about the backing later........
:-D

susiequilt 04-26-2010 06:24 AM

I just remembered I saw a chicken quilt probably on google images that was quilted with an overall chicken wire pattern. It might be just the thing for this quilt. I can only do free motion but it's something to think about.

Karen 04-26-2010 06:45 AM

Susie I love your big chicken! What a great idea!

deranged_damsel 04-26-2010 07:56 AM

I need to make a big old Foghorn Leghorn to add to my blocks :D

sandpat 04-26-2010 08:12 AM

Susie...you go girl! I love your long legged chicken and the flowers and sun really do add to it too! I can't wait to see your quilt....its going to be sooo cute!

sew cornie 04-26-2010 12:03 PM

love your tall guy susie! and the flowers and sun add a great touch!

susiequilt 04-27-2010 04:20 AM

Thank you all. It was fun to plan and make.
The quilt pieces/blocks are done but I didn't start sewing it together yet.
I've got to get it done to get it off the floor. The animals love it!
:-D

susiequilt 05-03-2010 04:12 AM

Here's the put together top. Now just thinking borders.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-44671-1.htm

I have another question.
If I were to send this out to be quilted would they be able to quilt it with the eyes on? how about the yarn and the moving parts?
I've never sent one out.

deranged_damsel 05-03-2010 03:50 PM

Hi Susie
I was hoping that my heart chicken blocks would get to those who were not sending the top out to be quilted. I dont know what the rules are some quilters have different requirments. if you HAVE to, you can take the parts off and put it back on later, or take it off and do something different, its ok... I wont cry.

sandpat 05-03-2010 03:51 PM

You'll just have to find your LA'er and ask her/him. I'm sure that they all have different ideas about it, so the best way to find out would be just ask the one you plan to use.
